You know, there's a chance we're a top 12 team this year and wont get into a BCS level bowl this year. Do that and national eyes will be on the Beavers. If we're in the MWC or similar level conference the following year, if Smith can convince the kids to stick around for a year, little changes, except the path to being one of 12 teams in the playoffs gets a bit easier. The problem is that we will not have the $$ to pay Smith and staff. Especially with our quitter, Eyeore fan base that wants to pull all of their donations and season tickets.

You, judge, have a of “blame the blameless” mentality. The overwhelming majority of Beaver fans are NOT to blame for any of this s%#t. We’ve supported the program(s) in “sickness and in health.” Sometimes it is simply OVER.

The lack of season ticket money is not the major problem. The severe drop in TV money is a major problem.

I, for one, would be happy to never see the ducks again.

Pretty sure we could swing it for a year. Get in the playoffs that first year and there could be more money than expected available. The big trick would be being able to afford keeping him when the big money schools come a knockin' with buyout money the following year. Frankly, I'd prefer we win the whole damn thing this year and have big conferences bidding to have us join. If we're without a loss going into November there may be some casual interest, win the conference and there could be even more.

We had 1 team in the last 50 plus years that any chance of winning a national championship by being in a “big conference”. Even if we are relegated to a lower conference, there’s no need to just give up on the program. Yes, I hate that it has become all about the money, but we still have some great kids who may not be 5*, but will still play their asses off and I will choose to go to the games and cheer them on…..in or not in a “major conference” NIL is going to continue to make it difficult if we do remain in a major conference.

I get being frustrated, but I’m not sure why people would quit supporting them because they drop down a league. I’ve already stopped watching pretty much any other games that aren’t Beaver games but I can’t imagine not watching and supporting Beaver sports. I didn’t start because they were in the PAC-12, or big 5 conference, I started because I’m a Beaver.

I live in San Diego. If I still lived in Oregon, I would still be going to plenty of OSU games, no matter the conference. If we wind up in the Mountain West, I would be fine with OSU's chief rivals being Boise State and WSU. I would get - yes, GET - to see the Beavs at SDSU every 2-3 years.
The money part sucks, and I hope we can survive, but if that wasn't an issue, I would far rather be in the MWC than the Big 12.
I've always liked the Washington schools and Stanford and always hated uo and SC (I might hate SC more than uo now), but the rest of the Pac 12 I never really cared about and often rooted against them when they played underdogs that I like.
Such "underdogs that I like" being San Diego State, San Jose State, and Nevada. I also always liked Boise State as the little train that could. I can't stand Fresno State. So if we are in the MWC, the Beavs will be in a conference in which I like a lot of the teams and truly hate at least one. So there would be some good emotions playing in that conference, for me at least.
The Big 12...yuck. Baylor? TCU? Houston? Why keep going? I can't stand any of the Texas teams. Same with Florida, UCF included. Oklahoma State is just another uo that bought their position with a fantastically wealthy alum's money. Iowa State, Cinnci, West Virginia, the Kansas schools, and everybody else in that conference bores the living s**t out of me. The only team I like in that conference, and I have no idea why, is BYU and I think the Pac blew it by not inviting them a long time ago.
Since money rules all, I would rather be in the Big 12 than the MWC but it sucks that college athletics have come down to this. It seems likely that the smaller P5 schools like our beloved OSU can and will become casualties of it all.
Sucks. It was great while it lasted.

We were season ticket holders for years. Four tickets. It wasn’t expensive. I (me) could attend MAYBE half the games. I worked many (too many) weekends. Our wonderful Grands got involved (❤️) in all manner of Fall athletic endeavors, and unless I was able to find Beaver fans to give the tickets to, they sat empty from time to time. DeCarolis, and the INSTITUTION made it very clear that a winning football, and basketball team (men’s, at the time) was not THAT important, so…… I said….”f%#* it.” Actual, spoken words….. and declined to continue as STH. We missed it, but survived. 😉.

Will the State of Oregon let the turdbirds leave without the Beavers?
Would Wasington State let the Huskies go without the Cougs?
Are both states willing to cripple one of their institutions for the wants of the other school? How do you square this with alumni / voters / taxpayers?

I don’t know how I’m going to feel about our schedule when/if it contains none of our traditional rivals. I suppose I’ll still follow the Beavers, but I’m kind of fed up with the endless money game driving college sports into the ditch. And to not have a single major conference based on the west coast is for me unconscionable. Money at some point corrupts everything, and that’s where we’re at now, with everyone scrambling to get their grubby hands on a piece of the pie. The double dealing that’s gone on has really turned me off on college sports. Maybe I’ll feel better about it in a year, but probably not.

Are both states willing to cripple one of their institutions for the wants of the other school? How do you square this with alumni / voters / taxpayers? It squared in California although things were somewhat different. Cal was not faced with going down a conference, with losing 25 million in revenue, and UCLA had saddled themselves with an enormous debt that the Big10 alliance promised to alleviate. Oregon faces no such problem. OTOH a major clout guy will be squarely behind their going Big10.

I was really hoping to see Aidan Chiles as a Beaver starting QB next year. Oh well.
