Currently 3-0 with a team batting average of nearly 400. They return their starting rotation and the entire infield from a team that made an NCAA Regional last year.

Should be fun. They are really hard to judge since they only really play one quality opponent a year outside their post season. They got in last year due to winning their conference tourney (MEAC) with a 24-30 record. The MEAC merged with the NEC so now it's a really crap shoot.
They did sweep Saint Peters but they are a member of the MAAC that went 9-41 last year. Shouldn't take any opponent lightly but this is kinda like taking on an undefeated lewis and Clark or Linfield.

Thurs night low of 14 and high of 36 friday In this part of the County, given our passion for college baseball there is no bad weather considering field turf and heated dugout. There is however an opportunity for bad choices in clothing. My feeling is anything below 45 degrees calls for a waiver in that genius plastic bag at gate policy. Hard to layer up much with artic clothing without a backpack.

If this were a more interesting series I'd be there......not super jazzed about Coppin st.

I would like the views of the group on why the Beavers would ever schedule home games this early in the year.
It appears to me (admittedly being far less knowledgeable about the program than most of you) that attempting to play in the kind of weather that almost always is going on at this time of year, is harmful to the development of the team.
What am I missing here?

I don't know how it impacts the team, but as a fan, baseball kind of sucks in cold, s%#tty weather. I would say it's a negative for recruiting as well. Just seems to me being away from Goss somewhere warm for at least the first two weeks makes a ton of sense.....by March the average temp should go up a bit Someone said they are back at Goss this weekend because of the world baseball classic?? Its also a financial thing. Michigan's coach Bakich proposed pushing back college season a month so the northern teams could play more home games. Many northern teams spend most of their travel budget in Feb/Mar travelling to play in warmer regions......it's a heavy financial burden.

Triggered by MLB starting a week earlier and losing Surprise stadium. I thought they were onto something with the Grand Canyon relationship. I'd imagine warm weather schools are not inclined to bring the formidable Beavs in for an early series that they could get beaten up in. I don't remember home games this early at Goss. Probably a Barnes/Canham test drive that will not go around the block more than once.

Thank you sir from the prompt and informative response!
By the way in reference to your "handle" (56Chevy), I during my misspent youth owned a Ford Crown Victoria two door hardtop, A Pontiac GTO, and an original Ford Bronco. I wish I would have held on to all three. Unfortunately Uncle Sam thought differently and insisted that I spend two tours of duty in Vietnam. Good bye vehicles!
Go Beavs!

My working theory is that there will be a fundraising campaign right after the series to build a heated dome over Goss. Donors will clamor at the opportunity to not endure this weather again.

Limits your out of town beavs too. I'm not driving over the mountains in the dumbest month of the year to watch 1 inning before my kid calls it quits.
I think we should consider trying to schedule with some mid tier/high tier teams like Fresno, baggers, GCU, SBSU, SJSU.
One easy D2 series like cal poly then another series against a warm decent team. That gets us 3 weeks deep and we have developmental games and some resume builders.
