Rumor while in Surprise is that the Friday Coppin State may be moved to a 1:00 start so it can be played above 32 degrees

Limits your out of town beavs too. I'm not driving over the mountains in the dumbest month of the year to watch 1 inning before my kid calls it quits. I think we should consider trying to schedule with some mid tier/high tier teams like Fresno, baggers, GCU, SBSU, SJSU. One easy D2 series like cal poly then another series against a warm decent team. That gets us 3 weeks deep and we have developmental games and some resume builders. Cal Poly is not a D2 team. They have had some very good players including a 1st round draft pick last year (the Coaches' son) Brooks Lee. They beat Cal and UW last year. It will not be "easy" Western Oregon is D2, if you want to go there.

Triggered by MLB starting a week earlier and losing Surprise stadium. I thought they were onto something with the Grand Canyon relationship. I'd imagine warm weather schools are not inclined to bring the formidable Beavs in for an early series that they could get beaten up in. I don't remember home games this early at Goss. Probably a Barnes/Canham test drive that will not go around the block more than once. Grand Canyon is running a series with Gonzaga and Ohio State this weekend. I can't believe that those three would not make room for Oregon State, if the Beavers asked. It should be noted that this is the second- or third-latest that the second full weekend can fall in the current Division 1 baseball format. Oregon State last scheduled multiple home games in Corvallis in February in 2015 against Grambling State and got all three games in. The time before that was against Tennessee in 2010. Oregon State got all three games in. During the last World Baseball Classic in 2017, Oregon State got to stay in Surprise, but had a weird schedule, as a result. The World Baseball Classic before that in 2013, Oregon State did not play at Surprise at all. The Beavers played in Palm Springs the first four games and at San Diego State the next four. The World Baseball Classic before that in 2009, Oregon State did not play at Surprise at all. The Beavers played in Knoxville and then in Tempe. The weather was awful in Knoxville, only getting two games in, and Oregon State has not scheduled Tennessee since. The World Baseball Classic before that in 2006, Oregon State only played the first three at Surprise. The Beavers then played the next three in Malibu, which led to the wretched (for baseball) 4-4 start.

Friday first pitch moved to 3:05 p.m. Supposed to be sunny, but cold. Better the rest of the weekend.

MLB taking over early due to World baseball classic in March…. Pretty sure Beavs would be playing down there this week without that. As iit is, I’d rather have home series than go off to someone else’s home field….. I’ll be in Goss this weekend. Friday game is 3:00.

Currently 3-0 with a team batting average of nearly 400. They return their starting rotation and the entire infield from a team that made an NCAA Regional last year. Coppin State won two Conference Championships in its history. The first was in 1995, when it won the MEAC Tournament but lost the NCAA Tournament play-in series to Winthrop at Rock Hill, South Carolina. Winthrop was the five-seed in the six-team East Regional. Winthrop upset Alabama before losing to host Clemson in the first semifinal and lost to Alabama in a rematch in the second semifinal. Over the next 27 years, the MEAC lost teams until, last year, the MEAC was down to four. Coppin State finished second behind Delaware State by a half-game but beat Delaware State two out of three times in Norfolk to advance to the Tournament. East Carolina beat Coppin State 17-1 in the first game of the Greenville Regional and Coastal Carolina finished off Coppin State with a 10-8 win. 2022 was the last year of the MEAC in baseball. The final four teams were absorbed into the Northeast Conference for baseball this year.

How quickly we forget it was a cold, wet season last year. There were only a handful of games in which we didn’t wear either rain gear or fully insulated cold weather gear, and that includes the regionals. It even hailed at one of the uo games at Goss. That’s not to say I wouldn’t enjoy 2 weekends at the beginning of the year in a sunny locale but we’ve had cold and rainy days in Surprise, too. Nothing is guaranteed.

Yea, last season sucked weather-wise. One of those years where its crap right up until damn near 4th of July. My understanding is this spring is sposed to be another wet, cold one. I'll be down to Goss for plenty of games, but I'm good missing Coppin St

Some people have to work for a living. The world needs ditch diggers, too. I can't help the fact that I've got an event going on at the yacht club that day.
