None of this is a reflection on the efforts the players are giving but what a "train wreck" this has become.
Lets list a few things-(a) probably two of our 3 best players (Beers and Gardiner) seemingly can not play very many minutes in a game. (b) it appears very suspicious that TVO has been playing hurt (c) the team flat out can not score any points at the end of games or in overtime (d) there are grade school teams that shoot a better 3 point percentage than this team.
This whole issue around injuries and players who seemingly can only play a few minutes, would seem to indicate poor physical conditioning and probably an inadequate training staff and program.
It is very difficult to not assume that once again we will be losing key players to the transfer portal.
SR is here for several more years unless he decides to hang it up early. Hopefully somehow he will do a complete, thorough evaluation of the program with the aid of competent outside sources to make some attempt to "right the ship"

Good point. I suspect she didn't realize how open she would be and was just following the play as it was drawn up. More improv with more experience I hope. I doubt a three was the play drawn when it was not necessary. Once again you are showing your ignorance just to bad mouth Rueck. There is always a Plan B (Option) when Plan A is stopped. When AJ's defender left her to double on Beers, AJ should have immediately gone to the open post position. Result would be a easy layin or a open six footer. That is just basic basketball (the closer you get the higher percent of probability)

Right now the trademarks of this program are (a) key players transferring out via the portal (b) injuries that seem to linger on and on (c) terrible shooting and (d)creatively learning how to lose game after game.
Frankly speaking, the players deserve better coaching, conditioning, player development, better training and medical support.
My position is that SR is not earning his significant salary. For the fans and OSU administration to ignore that fact is very harmful to the players and is just postponing and worsening the eventual restructuring that will have to come. All the talk about close finishes, moral victories, etc. only allows the denial of actuality to continue.

Hopefully somehow he will do a complete, thorough evaluation of the program with the aid of competent outside sources to make some attempt to "right the ship" There's two major reasons that cut into Beers' playing time: Mit and foul trouble. Even though Rueck sometimes keeps Mit out on the court a lot even if Beers is not in foul trouble, Beers is still averaging 23.3 minutes a game. That's fourth on the team. IMO, Rueck does not think Gardiner is always doing what is needed on the defensive end. I don't think conditioning is an issue. TVO did not play today due to a foot injury. Whatever chronic injury she has does not impact her enough to keep her off the court. No way they would risk a player's health to play. The scoring? It's Rueck's offense, so it's on him to figure out a way to enable the players to put up more points. That includes 3-point shooting. I will be interested to see how the hard core Rueck supporters react if there's some key players lost to the portal, but I really hope that doesn't happen. I think the only way there's any kind of major evaluation of the program is if several players leave.

Thank you Judge but I probably would forget the apppointment! (grin).
No I re-posted because, on reflection, I felt I should not have listed Beers as a player who can not play many minutes a game. I believe that SR does not play her nearly the minutes she should be getting (in fairness some of it is due to foul trouble).
I know my posting seems harsh and very critical but the actual reality of the situation in my opinion is glaringly obvious.

Skyrider...your list of the need for better conditioning, player development, better training, and medical support are helpful insights. I have watched as the Beavs, a relatively talented team, get out hustled to loose balls and have difficulty securing offensive rebounds. We also seem to tire at the ends of games that might explain why we haven't been able to finish in many of the games.

All the talk about close finishes, moral victories, etc. only allows the denial of actuality to continue. So you must be attending their practices to know what is being worked on? Please enlighten us on what the coaches are doing if not working with the players. The coaching staff is teaching their players to miss 3 point shots? Or not letting them practice them? That must be it, it can't be streaking shooting. You surely must be able to shoot 3 point shots all day since you make it sound so easy. As for lingering injuries, it was announced quite a while ago that TVO has an injury that will be taken care of after the season. It is not serious and playing won't make it worse. What other ones are you referring to? In the last four years that have been an acl, torn hamstring, and acl. The lingering ones are a medical condition that eventually forced the player to stop playing and a player that had the same issues in high school and had continued to have those issues at her new school. How are you able to know about their medical treatment? In what way is it inadequate? What do you base your claims on? As far as transfers in the portal era most schools have had issues, well over 1000 players each year have used it and a lot of the players have decided to play closer to home. It was made worse by the difficulty to see family. It has hit us hard. I'm interested in who if anyone leaves this year. Ncaa is supposedly going back to a position of one free transfer and play right away the next one will require sitting out a year. How exactly is OSU and the coaches are harmful to the players? This is an asinine statement. If you are so against the program just don't waste your time watching their games.

Your observation above is certainly correct that I do not know what the actual facts are. I also believe that it is factual that the win-loss record of the team has gotten worse and worse each of the last few years.
I am obviously speculating. I am sure many of the posters on this site have different views. My point was that this denial about the actuality of the situation, allows it to continue and more likely get worse.
Again, thanks for your response and I certainly did not intend to infer I was giving other than opinions and speculation.
Go Beavs!
Thank you for your response

Should change the name of Bernice's Place to the "Buzzkill Board". I thought for sure USC would outmuscle us like they did at Gill. I was impressed at our shooting percentage, number of threes attempted and that we took a scrappy team into deep water on their floor. I think it should be renamed "The Judge Smails big boy board" Gotta say Judge has nailed it week in and week out. He calls it as it is even when we don't like to hear it.

I find all of the posts on this thread interesting with a lot of opinion and speculation (especially mine). Brings to mind the lyrics of the refrain of a Bob Dylan song: "Because something is happening here, But ya don't know what it is, Do you, Mr. Jones?"

Yes, every program has to deal with the portal. I'm just not sure that it has hit most other programs with the same impact as it has Oregon State. The Beavers have lost Sasha Goforth (McDonald's All-American); Greta Kampschroeder (McDonald's AA); Taylor Jones (5-star recruit, No. 15 nationally, All-Pac-12); Kennedy Brown (McDonald's AA, No. 19 national recruit), Aleah Goodman (All-Pac-12, 20-21 AA honorable mention), Taya Corosdale (hon mention Pac-12). Not to mention Destiny Slocum, who was a grad transfer and would have played her final season at OSU in 20-21 had she stayed. She was a two-time all-Pac-12 and honorable mention AA while at OSU. The Beavers also lost Savannah Samuel and Jasmine Simmons since 20-21. Rueck has been able to bring in Ellie Mack, Emily Codding, Tea Adams, Jovana Subasic and now Bendu Yeaney and Shalexxus Aaron. Even though not all of the transfers out of OSU have played at a high level, Rueck has not been able to come close to matching the losses. The addition of Beers and Gardiner should help, but Rueck needs to be able to land some impact players through the portal moving forward.
