Both win streaks against UW and Cali down the drain. But there are some real odd commentaries going on. "Why isn't Rueck playing Beers and Timea more?" Because they are Freshies and he is playing them as much as they are able. "Why isn't Rueck starting Beers and Timea? Because they have limits to their stamina and he wants to play them when he thinks it will help the most. "Why did he/didn't he play the Freshie guards?" He didn't play them against Stanford because he was trying to win the game. He did play them against Cali because the other players were pooped from playing so many minutes in a tough game against Stanford. The announcers for the game were way more sympathetic to our posts than their supposed fans have been. Cali players were pushing off to get rebounds all game and that was brought up by the announcers with something like "I wondered when the refs were going to call that" when Onyiah was finally called on it. Cali as a team have not been good rebounders and yet they matched the Beav's, the 15th best defensive rebounders in the country. Huh, I wonder how that happened? The Cali players were lying on our posts all game, and when our guys moved the Cali players would fly back and the refs would call a foul on the Beav's. Cali played smart to get the win, based on the refs being idiots. Beers & Timea need to increase their stamina, and the way to do that is to play more. At this point in the season (post season out of reach), play your next season's likely players, especially at PG. Martha has not really had a bad game. Martha has demonstrated she can contribute, and is without question the most "natural" PG we have on the team. Get Martha minutes. OSU had too many unforced turnovers. We didn't make Cal pay for sagging off our guards to double the post. Cal had the perfect defensive scheme recognizing Bendu would not shoot wide open mid range and 3-point shots. At this level, you have to shoot wide open shots when they are available. Our BIGs played well, and our coaches needed to make adjustments. Instead, we kept trying to force the ball inside a very crowded key.

Again, not sure how many FTs we got, but our bigs were again getting just hammered and virtually no calls, Beers got a couple I think.. And, if our bigs so much as tried to get out of the double and triple teams, they were called immediately, smart coaching I guess, if stripes let you do it, continue doing it. It was a little embarrassing at times though. When you rewatch it, it is pretty obvious there were games being played.

I've heard Rueck and many other coaches say that you have to recognize how the game is being called, and adjust. We did not adjust, and it seemed to be very deflationary for our team. Coach may have thought we didn't have the necessary players on the bench to make the required adjustments (guards other than TvO taking and making wide open shots). Another example was how well TvO was being defended by the Cal guard (Martine?). For the most part, she bottled up TvO and TvO got very few clean looks. TvO also got double and triple teamed at times. And OSU coaches didn't adjust. We just kept doing the same old thing. That is what was hard to digest as a fan.

I'm not sure how you can adjust to opposing players flopping on little to no contact. Tell Beers and Jalena to run away any time an opposing player gets close?

The one was to use the strength of smaller quicker players to beat our big player from defending driving layups and secondly using their fast wing players to burn us in mid range pull up shots in transition. We got cold when our offense stopped responding in like!

The ref's removed our post offense from the game.
