Haven’t really checked out all the other teams in league, but I would have been shocked if this wasn’t the case.

Haven’t really checked out all the other teams in league, but I would have been shocked if this wasn’t the case. Agreed. There's no need to read up on the other teams. If the news out of the games in Italy are any indication, Oregon State will be relying on: Two bigs coming off injuries: Andela and Marial Freshmen who have never played college ball: Pope (frosh), possibly our only true PG; Bilodeau, Krass, Rataj, Stevens A transfer who was not a big producer at his old school or OSU: Akanno. I could add Marial to this list. A transfer who had only one season in which he averaged >4.6 pts/1.8 rebs/game: Ryuny, who in the 20-21 season (his third), averaged 9.4 pts and 5.6 rebs/game in 27.1 minutes of play. One guy who shows promise but needs to take a BIG step forward: Taylor (I think he can take that step) We will need Pope and Akanno to give solid minutes at the point. We will need Andela and Marial to come back strong in the middle. We will need Ryuny to have a season like 20-21. We will need 2-3 of the freshmen to play the 2 and 2-3 to play at the 3 and 4. That's asking a lot, probably too much to get us out of the cellar. I think we can just hope that the Beavs put up a fight in a lot of games and win in the double digits.

The Beavs are also picked last by 5 out of 5 of cbssports basketball writers. The preseason expectations and buzz around the program have never been lower. On the bright side, it won't be hard to meet or hopefully exceed expectations. I wonder how many season tickets they have sold?

What programs should the Beavers be picked ahead of in the Pac12? We don't invest in MBB. Remember the applicants after Robinson got fired? WT was the best of the bunch. Make it so it's not the worst job in the conference, and the team will rise.

What I’m looking for out of this year is some fight (and not amongst themselves as it has been reported was the case last year). If the team plays hard — especially on D — and we see some evidence that the young kids are showing some development, I’ll be satisfied. And by that I don’t mean I’ll be satisfied with Tinkle — if it is financially feasible to move on from him I’m all for it. But I’m not certain that will be the case, so I’ll take this team showing grit and hustle, and building a solid foundation for the 2023-24 season.

He went to Mississippi State, had some success, and wore out his welcome and was dismissed after this past season.

If you want a quality program who consistently wins, you have to pay a quality coach and staff competitive money up front. It's a risk to take the Oregon state job since osu hadn't consistently won since 1988. Howland wanted money osu wasn't willing to pay. Well...here we are again wanting to hire another savior to consistently win at OSU. Rinse and repeat. Jimmy...Eddie...Jay...Craig...Ritchie...Wayne...who is next?

It'll be curious to see how it goes.
Taylor, Akanno and Andela (in limited play) each averaged more last season than any returning player Tinkle inherited his first season here.
Tinkle's first team here was expected to be just plain bad, didn't turn out that way. Hopefully he can pull a rabbit out of his hat again.

I don't know how many wins we will get this season. What I want is hope. A group of youngsters like Rataj,Bilideau,Pope etc have potential, and if the vets like Taylor,Andela, etc can take a step forward,I think this team can be competitive. Play solid defense, rebound.take care of the ball...this group has a chance. Unselfish basketball...team first basketball is what I'm looking for.

Ben Howland led MSU to ONE NCAA berth and it lost in the first round. Tinkle has led the Beavers to two, one of which resulted in three wins and an Elite 8 berth. MSU finished 10th or below in the SEC in four of his seven seasons. He did get them to three NITs. Maybe we hired the right guy.

Have set my bar low this year - more wins than last year-so over 4 … Some defense being played, and something looking like teamwork.

It should also be noted that Howland was fired by UCLA and by Mississippi State despite posting winning records at each school. So maybe there was more to the decision not to hire him that just money.
