A concern is that 3b, SS, and DH spots hitting did not improve as the season progressed. Some of those guys couldn't hit high end fastballs and others couldn't hit a breaking ball. Frustrating to see the lack of improvement and makes me think new incoming players need to step into those spots as current roster may not be enough. Would be nice to have the transfer portal fill those weak spots like Auburn, Texas A&M and others have done.

Or multiple Ferrers.

Just my opinion but next year we do not have a lock down Friday night guy. However, KA didn't get the job done so maybe I am just dreaming. Pitching Staff looks to be stable and able. D and Hitting will again be a big issue. I would consider moving Baz to LF with 2 of the new guys filling out the outfield. Toskey looks like a better fit a 2nd. We really need a stud SS who can hit. Can Guerra really play SS? Likely both Gretler and Duke will be back to cover 3rd. Perhaps Guerra at 3rd. Portal Hunting? (aka) Free Agents, Lefty Pitcher and 2 really good hitters. I would not be surprised to see Meckler return. I would guess a couple of the Pitchers will bail out and try to get on the mound somewhere else.
Just my guess work. Damn I hate losing!

We also missed a huge part of the Omaha puzzle. Luck! I think a couple of those catches hurt our luck!

We also missed a huge part of the Omaha puzzle. Luck! I think a couple of those catches hurt our luck! You are spot on. Just one example, the ball Mekler hit in the top of the 9th. If the left fielder does not catch that ball (and he snow coned it) as he dove for it, we've probably got a guy standing on 3rd with one out.

Our 2007 team was struggling, probably shouldn't have even been in the tournament, then got hot and won the whole thing. The 2017 team to me is still the best team that we've ever had, but you have the LH situation, some crazy umpiring and a couple of bad breaks and they're out. It's really, really hard to get to Omaha........and even harder to win the whole thing. You need some breaks.

IDK last night on the post game show Jim Wilson said he thinks Boyd will go in the 5th round. That's his floor to me. If he bets on himself and comes back he could be a 1st rounder next year. Just my two cents, I'm sure he's at least considering it.

You don’t replace CH. he’s arguably the best pitcher we have ever had. We get a guy his caliber every 5-10 years. The good news is you don’t need someone that good every year. You just need 3 solid arms. We have a good start already with Hunter, Lattery, Townsend and Kmatz. Bullpen has plenty of upside with all the experience this year. We have 6 arms coming in and 2 of them look to be pretty special off the bat, can always be surprised. Here’s a breakdown of the hitters and what’s coming. @wsn – From above Depends on the draft mostly. Probably gone: Melton – Gone for sure Boyd – May stay and bet on himself for one more year. Meckler – Probably worked his way into the draft, unlikely he stays if he gets a pick. Possible guys to step up on the roster: Wilson Reed Trosky Smith Incoming – Turley – Wait and see Macias – Probably coming in Wildcard Frosh I know can hit. Reeder Kennel Krieg (may be pitching) Theres another 5 defensive players coming in, who konws what they can do. Guerra showed flashes on hitting brilliance. If he builds on that to become consistant, watch out. Totally forgot about Guerra, I'll add him to the list above.

If he builds on that to become consistant, watch out. by "Wilson", I guess that means Wilson Weber? (RS-Fr this season). Gavin Logan is listed as a Junior. Possibly (probably?) not drafted. He's played 4 seasons post-high school. He'll be 23 years old in 2023. Mason Guerra came in as #1 OR rank overall and #1 OR at SS (#198 overall Nationally - Perfect Game). Summer 2021 WCL: 4 errors in about 12 games started (poor field conditions compared to Goss). Great SO/BB ratio 10 SO & 13 BB. Batted .171 Freshman season: .333 BA (great, mostly due to short-lived hot streak). 45 AB with 21 SO (only 4 BB). Huge upper ceiling. Check out Canon Reeder this summer with Springfield (WCL). He's started 9 of their 10 games so far. Short drive from Corvallis - and NO ONE has been attending their games (< 300).

Correct Wilson Weber. Gavin Logan is interesting. He has a whole lot of talent behind him. Idk if he stays, hangs it up transfers or heads to the pros. Guerra is def a high potential guy. I personally would have liked to see him play most of the season but I don't get paid big bucks. Cannons stats: baseball.pointstreak.com/player.html?playerid=1596154 Nothing wild but he is averaging almost the same amount of steals as strike outs. Lately his OPS and OBP are really heading upward. Looking forward to seeing his full season results. I have seen this kid play and train, he is very very fast.

48-18 with a very solid schedule. Hard to see that any other way than a highly successful season. I think these guys had to fight off most teams best efforts throughout the season.
Not a complete lineup, but a complete effort and that's really all you can ask for.
Losing TJ's bat was a big blow. An RBI or two more per game looks like a very big deal today. I hope his eye heels completely.

Cooper is arguable the best pitcher we ever had? I love Cooper, he was our best this year but the "Best we EVER had" brings up some dudes who did it for more than 1 year.
I'm not trying to dis on CH but that statement is just not true... you can't argue he is the best ever. The most strikeouts in one year... yes you can argue that. CH ERA of 2.53, 11-2 with those massive 161 Strike outs with no Omaha games to help.
My Best Ever list in no particular order is...
Rasmussen - Pitched a Perfect game in 2015 Heimlich - Did it for 4 years. as a Junior ERA of 0.76, 11-1 and 2 Complete games Boyd - Senior year was his best. Fry - ERA of 1.59, 11-1. 4 complete games in 2014 Wetzler - ERA of 0.78, 12-1. 4 complete games in 2014 Nicherson - 2006 was lights out in Omaha. We all have our favorites but to call them the best ever is a very lofty phrase. Fun discussion to have and maybe I haven't changed your mind on Cooper... I'm ok with that. He is a Warrior as Mitch said a few days ago. We are spoiled to have so many to consider and so many situations where pitchers carried this team.
Side note... why is the 2016 season absent from the official website statistics? Odd.

Side note... why is the 2016 season absent from the official website statistics? Odd. You have a good point. When making best of lists it usually just amounts to a bunch of cherry picking. We will never know how good Hjerpe was in the college game cause he’s not going to be here. His frosh season was fairly forgettable. Last year he was good/average depending on the outing. This year he was nails. What would he do coming back for 1 more year? Who knows. All the guys on your list are fantastic and can easily have their hat in the stack of best ever. Who knows the best we’ve had could have been 50 years ago and none of us remember them. Hjerpe Is very good. One thing is 100%, he will be the highest drafted pitcher OSU has ever produced. Idk what that really means but there it is.

Ya. Great point. We will know as CH professional career unfolds for sure. We certainly do the cherry picking as we look for our favorites and our opinion on who is best, no doubt. To be continued
