After feasting on an easy-to-moderately-difficult OOC schedule, and then feasting on every other Pac-12 team below the clear top 3, Stanford and UCLA eventually made it clear where this team's ceiling was, and we spent the entirety of the postseason hitting that ceiling and trying to push through. Sometimes with success, but often not. I knew our bottom-of-the-order achilles heel would bite us in the ass eventually in the postseason, but damn I was really hoping we'd squeeze out one more game. These guys and this coaching staff squeezed every ounce of success out of this roster that they could, and I'm damn proud of them.
Here's a random hot take: If TJ Wheeler doesn't get injured, I think we'd be heading to Omaha. Discuss.

Agreed on Wheeler....talked about that on drive home. He DH's and I think Mitch keeps Dukart's bat in lineup at 3B

CH gone next year, I don't see anyone taking that spot for us. Need several more bats or it will be more of a challenge than it was this year. New outfield but don't know who will take up those three hitters, more ??

All that Oregon State probably needed to do to win the #2-seed this year was beat Stanford once more, whether it be in the series in Corvallis or in Scottsdale. I think, if only the coaches had had not screwed up the pitching in Reno and just Mercy Ruled Nevada. If only the team could have scraped out one run in nine innings in game one or had not decided to try and stretch Verburg to two innings in game three. If only the coaches had not screwed up the pitching in an almost identical way against UCLA in what should have been the one-and-only game one in Scottsdale. If only, then Oregon State would have been playing Connecticut this weekend, as opposed to Auburn. Oh well. F#*k it. Hopefully, Ole Miss rolls Auburn in game one and Stanford beats WPS.

New outfield but don't know who will take up those three hitters, more ?? Hitting will be the question. No CH is huge loss of course but look at Auburn's 3 guys....a rotation of Kmatz/Hunter/Frisch or maybe a new face is just as good, if not better than who they threw. Need some bullpen guys to step up, but so much talent, they will. The bats will be the question. Does the new OF step up like you are saying? Can SS and 3B add 50 - 75 points to their BA? Can Smith or Weber be consistent hitters at C all year? I think they can but I'm more worried about them than the pitching

Hats off to Auburn, they gutted the series out, and were the better team. It's pretty disappointing because I believe we were loaded for an Omaha run. We didn't get hits when needed......that's baseball. We will lose most of the key guys from this team to the draft. Hopefully we can re-tool quickly and make another Omaha run. Recruiting is good but there's a lot to replace. This team may have been our best shot at Omaha for a bit. I guess we will see.....

New outfield but don't know who will take up those three hitters, more ?? You don’t replace CH. he’s arguably the best pitcher we have ever had. We get a guy his caliber every 5-10 years. The good news is you don’t need someone that good every year. You just need 3 solid arms. We have a good start already with Hunter, Lattery, Townsend and Kmatz. Bullpen has plenty of upside with all the experience this year. We have 6 arms coming in and 2 of them look to be pretty special off the bat, can always be surprised. Here’s a breakdown of the hitters and what’s coming. @wsn – From above Depends on the draft mostly. Probably gone: Melton – Gone for sure Boyd – May stay and bet on himself for one more year. Meckler – Probably worked his way into the draft, unlikely he stays if he gets a pick. Possible guys to step up on the roster: Wilson Reed Trosky Smith Incoming – Turley – Wait and see Macias – Probably coming in Wildcard Frosh I know can hit. Reeder Kennel Krieg (may be pitching) Theres another 5 defensive players coming in, who konws what they can do.

Pitchers breakdown
Pitchers Gone: Sebby Verburg Hjerpe Ferrer? Hope not Pfennigs? Kinda played himself out of the draft this year. Frisch? Huge wild card Mundt? Love to have him back. He graduated but has eligibility Townsend? Has eligibility Lawson? May transfer as he is kinda lost on the roster.
Incoming (If not drafted) Tyler Gough RHP Nelson Keijo LHP Aiden Jimenez RHP Logan MIller RHP Conor Pote RHP Tyler Mejia LHP

Yea Boyd has been in Melton's shadow draft-wise.....but no more. I think yesterday's performance solidified him as a pretty high draft pick......I'm sure there's been plenty of scouts who came to see Melton, that left very impressed with Boyd.

If he builds on that to become consistant, watch out.
