It went over your head as well. It had little to do with coaching for both. THE MAN CAN'T COACHFin. Fin.

Can I bump this thread now? Still think Wayne sTinkle can coach? Whipped by Portland State twice in the same month! Give him the Mike Riley contract, lifetime it up! I suspect the majority of people on the board have coaching concerns, but understand that it isn't a black and white issue. Most of us recognize that, when things align properly, Tinkle can produce quality teams. We are baffled as to why he can't produce a more consistent product and we have grave concerns over the mess that was last year. Most of us also know that it is going to be an uphill battle all the way this year with a whole host of new players. Since you brought up the football analogy with Riley, then consider this: Tinkle led us to our first Bowl appearance since the 90s. Then he basically took us to the CFP. And you want to dump him immediately. I know it's frustrating. Few Beaver fans are not concerned about the way that the tournament went, but let's see what our regular schedule brings and how this team develops. Just like when Smith took over the football program, I won't mind the losses if I can see consistent development and effort.

Just curious after wins against juggernauts Tulsa, Florida a&m, and the naia school Bushnell and then turning around and getting whipped twice by Portland state, not being competitive against Florida, but showing effort against duke you ok with the season so far? You seeing consistent development and effort?

You seeing consistent development and effort? You haven't been paying attention, then. I criticized the team already and wondered if Tinkle has already lost the team. I guess it all comes down to what your expectations are. Are you saying that in 7 games you have seen enough? I don't think so. Like I said, I want to see what the regular season looks like. Let's talk in January.

In the 20/21 season OSU was 3 and 6 in league play in January. Their OOC schedule went a bit better than ours has so far.
I'm not expecting ending up with the kind of season we had that year, but there's still plenty of time to show improvement.

You're comparing Jonathan Smith who took over a program vs a guy who's been here for what, 10 years? And quite honestly at most other schools, Wayne wouldn't have been given the chance of coaching in the NCAA's the second time around.

The analogy is poor, sure, but you keep trivializing what Tinkle has accomplished with a team that was pretty much unwatchable for twenty years. Two things you must remember. 1. Not everyone disagrees with your premise, but many are not as radical and fervent about it as you. Instead, we look at the bigger picture including costs and progress 2. It is insanely easy to say “fire Tinkle.” The next will be the magic fix. The grass is always greener…. Sometimes the answer is ugly hard work.

It's early. I don't know (and don't really care) if PSU has a veteran squad, but I strongly suspect they do.
Bad losses are not exactly new with any team, and I'm not even sure those early tests were bad losses. The Beavs have a new team, meaning they are not very familiar with each other. You're going to get your ups and downs.

That's on S Scott Barnes. The only thing that Wayne should have received was another year added onto the old contract and the bonuses he forfeited by getting OSU to the NCAA's. That's it. As for the next being the magic fix, it's really hard to get much lower. Weekend at Bernie's could do a better job at this point. He has fooled quite a few of you, just like Craig before him and especially like Gary on the football side.

They are who we thought they were, although you have to feel for UW who's some how wondering how they lost to a team that got smacked by PSU not once but twice.

Whether you agree or disagree with Tinkle’s extension done not matter. Screaming that it should not have happened is living in a fantasy world. It has less value than your believe that the next big thing in coaching is waiting just around the corner because the extension is a reality. You can’t wish it away with a hypothetical statement. Though it has been repeated here many times, only assholes don’t reward workers for high performance. The best thing for you to do is simply to admit that you don’t like the man. I say this because you don’t need reasons to dislike someone and the reasons you have for firing Tinkle or not rewarding the Elite Eight appearance cannot stand up to simple scrutiny.

Just wondering why its not possible to not want tinkle as a coach but still like him as a person. By the way for a coach that has like a 40% winning percentage he is being paid quite nicely.

I assume very few (if any) people on this board have much to do with Tinkle as a person to know if they like him or not. I certainly don’t and have a similar expectation of fuzz. Besides, I have only discussed him as his role as coach. Can you be a coach at a Pac 12 school and not be paid handsomely?
