Mrs. Lucas posting a rumor about players faces planned to be removed from the Elite Eight banner and some pretty ugly critiques from this last year, some of which we’ve heard:

Plans have been made to replace the current 2020-21 Pac-12 Tournament championship and Elite Eight Team banner in the practice facility in order to remove two key players faces from the banner….

“There is no sour grapes!! We love Oregon State. Unfortunately, a lot of things went wrong this year. A lot of blame was pushed off on others. Wrong players were brought into this program, no accountability, no structure, no leadership by the coach. Towards the end of the season - practices were only 30 minutes, HC never stayed for film with the team. He allowed the new transfers to: not go to conditioning; fights broke out; transfers wouldn’t go to the locker room after games; transfers wouldn’t run the plays; transfers were cussing out coaches. This is why my son went into the portal. If it weren’t for all of that and the lack of accountability, he would still be there as well as others.”
That’s some pretty rough insights that can actually explain the collapse. It makes me wonder if last years’s coaches were Reichle and Ethan.

Brutal. That is an abject failure by Tinkle. If true, that would be awfully close to a "for cause" offense, one would think. Evidence is piling up of the "rumors" we heard at the end of the season. That just sounds like a complete failure by the coach.

That just sounds like a complete failure by the coach. Probably the most appalling thing to me is for Tinkle not even going through the motions of holding anything representing a practice. That's a pretty easy thing for Barnes to validate; that Tinkle would collect a multi-million dollar paycheck and not even bother showing up for work is job abandonment - definitely 'for-cause', at least for any occupation I'm aware of. I mean, I can somewhat understand giving up on the season and going through the motions, I can't understand not respecting your career or the contract itself. |

There is simply no possibility that there will be removal of faces from the banner. Zero. None. The rest of the message loses credibility.

And, though there is no reason to care who is right or wrong, maybe more of the WT supporters will see the "light" that WT had done more than "lost" the team. He actually gave up and let the dog wag the tail. If anyone thinks that will just be reversed by a new staff and some new faces, they are wrong. It wasn;t a one season event. These type of rumors have existed longer than this season. Maybe a actual "insider's" words will wake up the powers that be. Barnes actually has actionable causes for firing with cause. I'm glad to hear a parent speak out even though it hurts the image of the university I support. |

From the folks that work at Gill the assistants were often trying to be the go betweens with absolutely no success. When I brought up some sideline confrontations, two being between Lucas and Rupp, I was told it was frustration that nothing was being done. It was not directed at Rupp himself or his actions. I wonder if the new staff was sold to recruits as the "solution" to internal issues even though they were not the cause?? I hope none of the current signees are hearing this crap. It could taint the waters before they even arrive on campus. Luckily the May 1st portal deadline passed as they now can't enter it as signed players. |

I have no idea if anything she says is true. Moms have never exaggerated when it comes to their kids.
But the on-court evidence is, we didn't quit as a team and mail it in, as would have happened if Tinkle had "lost the team" as some claim. We had a 2 OT loss to USC, an OT loss to WSU, close road losses at WSU and UW and a competitive game with oregon at the Pac-12 tournament to close the season. The only game we sucked was at home with UCLA, the game Lucas supposedly cussed out an assistant and wouldn't re-enter the game.
That said, we need better coaching next year. No question.

I don’t blame anyone for getting the hell out of town. I liked Lucas and respect his play.
However, even with this nugget, we have to read it with caution. She is arguing for a purpose—to keep the faces on the banner—so she has reason to project certain players in the best light possible. I’m not saying that I don’t believe her, just that we need more information.
I hope Tinkle has hired his replacement because I suspect his days are limited. A program cannot survive in such a bad culture.
