Stefan Romero has been on the 7-day IL since July 9th. Sam Gaviglio joined him there on Saturday. Matt Boyd suffered a rehab setback last month. I have not seen any updates since. Michael Conforto may be ready to play by September. He still needs a contract to play, though. Caleb Hamilton is still backing up Gary Sanchez, while Ryan Jeffers recovers from his injury. I keep waiting for Hamilton and Larnach to play together, but I don't think that it has happened yet in Minnesota. Romero is now on the 60-day IL. I am not sure if that means that Romero is done for the year or not.

Good place, great stadium, one of the best-run AAA franchises. Just reassigned to New Hampshire in the AA Eastern League. New Hampshire cut Moore on Wednesday.

On August 4, 2022 Grenier dips below .200 on the season at AAA [with a putrid .600 OPS]. He's at .071 BA in August 2022 is actually one of his worst season in pro ball at the plate. If he wasn't a 1st round draft pick (1.8 million signing bonus), I suspect he'd be a high school baseball coach by now. He's one of my all-time favorite Beavs, but the writing is on the wall. Grenier started the first seven games in August going .053. In the last nine games, he's hitting .370. On Sunday, he went 2/2 with a triple, a solo shot, and two walks, scoring four runs after each plate appearance. Grenier laces 'em up again this afternoon at 3:35 PT. Grenier is like the T-900 in Terminator. No matter how many times you knock that guy down, he just keeps getting back up. Grenier is a.) the best middle infielder ALL TIME on the Beavers.....and b.) the streakiest hiiter to have palyed in PAC-12 Beav days & minor leagues. If he could ever align his fielding with his (good weeks) hitting he'd' be in MLB for at least 5 years. Otherwise: welcome to high school / cc college coaching.

And Alex McGarry continues to rake at AA. Three HR's in the last four games. Since I started following the Beaver's minor leaguers progress, I don't remember someone ever making this large of positive gain in a season. McGarry just promoted today to AAA Louisville. If McGarry could cut down on his K rate just a little...

Well, today is August 31, 2022.
If Conforto is going to sign this year, it probably happens today. He can still sign and play after today, but he cannot compete in the postseason.
Matthew Boyd probably makes Seattle's expanded roster tomorrow. Does any other Beaver also get the call?

I see him owning and operating a couple baseball themed high end restaurants when he's done playing baseball. He didn't seem like a coach in waiting during his time in Corvallis. Meanwhile, Gunner Henderson goes 2-4 with a HR in his big league debut tonight. Not a peep about Cadyn in the last month during Baltimore TV broadcasts.

There was some chatter that the Astros were signing Conforto for $30 million, but Boras said that the number was lower. No deal. No Conforto this postseason. We'll see, if anyone wants to get Conforto going for the stretch run.

Hamilton makes the 20 minute drive from St. Paul to Minneapolis to rejoin the team. Of course, the Twins are in Houston right now. Great for Hamilton, though! Also, Trevor Larnach is supposed to be close to getting cleared to start his rehab assignment. It would be fun to see those two try and chase down Kwan's Guardians for the Central Crown. Hamilton scored his first career run in the Majors on Saturday, the game-winner in the 10th. Game two of what is now a four-game winning streak. The Twins play the Red Sox this afternoon to try and stretch the streak to five. Larnach is supposed to start his rehab with Fort Myers by the end of the week. The Twins are currently 1.5 games behind the Guardians for the Central Crown and three games behind the Blue Jays for the final wildcard spot. The Orioles are currently two games back of the Blue Jays, a game in front of the Twins. The Twins won game five but lost 6-5 yesterday. Larnach is set to start his rehab with Fort Myers tomorrow. The Twins, Guardians, Blue Jays, and Orioles all went 1-1 over the last two games, so the standings are all the same with relation to the four. However, the Orioles are up 2-0 over the Guardians right now in the second. Two of the first three Orioles homered (not Adley). Kwan struck out. One Guardian got on on an infield single and the next on an error, but Vavra caught a ball to left to end the first inning.

Matty pitched a scoreless inning today in a 7-0 win at Detroit. Threw eight pitches, got three groundouts. There was an extensive postgame interview on Root, in which he showed what a class guy he is, complementing his former teammates on the Tigers and the city, and his new team.
