Pat Casey said that Ben Wetzler was hanging it up? Wetzler only was officially placed in Mesa on the 6th. He had decided to retire in a week? I think that Wetzler was thinking about retiring a couple of months ago, before he caught on with the Cubs. I don't know how often Casey and Wetzler talk. That’s what he said. I don’t have any other info. Yep heard same thing in the interview. Ben's instagram profile page says he's a coach w/NW Futures Baseball. No reference to MLB affiliation.

His reel from last week, says that he is still trying to get to "the Big Leagues." His pictures and videos before are all him wearing Cubs stuff. That goes back to Christmastime, when he has his boy in Beaver apparel. I want to say that he did some last ditch arm thing in the offseason, and the Cubs signed him based on what they saw. If the Cubs did not sign him, I believe that he was considering retirement. But, unless Pat has heard something else in the past couple of weeks, it looks like Holmes is still trying to make it to The Show with the Cubbies to play with Nick.

Saw this this AM. Harrisburg Senators released C K.J. Harrison. Interesting. Fun fact, K.J. Harrison had the first-ever grand slam at T.D. Ameritrade Field, now Charles Schwab Field. Also, I didn't realize this, but K.J.'s younger brother Kalae plays for Texas A&M.

Alex McGarry homered twice tonight. Now has hit a homer in four games in a row. In about 76 PA's at the AA level, this is his slash line 338/382/718.

Jayce Easley was promoted to A+ Hickory last month. Abel had his first start at Daytona yesterday. Four innings of two-hit ball. Both hits came in the first inning, which allowed a run to score. Froemke started 0/12 but was 2/3 yesterday at first base. He had two base hits, scored a run, and drove in two runs on two sacrifice flies.

Ben was officially released by the Cubs today I guess that the Cubs were watching the Auburn-Oregon State game, too. Ben was never going to make it. If you only throw 91, you better have an A+ secondary pitch or you have no shot. 91 is BP in today’s game.

Mick Abel still in A ball….. He got a lot of money…. But I wonder what he could have achieved as a Beaver. Not to mention college. Which would have ended in big $$$ anyway.

According to Baseball America he is the 52nd ranked prospect in the game. He was drafted in 2020 and had some injury issues, not sure what level you expect him to be at? He did the 100% correct thing in signing.

Adley had 2 hits including the game tying RBI double in the 9th. O’s win in the 10th on a HBP walk off.

As 4 members of the 2018 Beavers establish themselves as MLB players, what about the 5th high draft pick?
It's well recognized that the 'fifth' is Cadyn Grenier - my personal all-time favorite OSU (fielding) middle infielder.
I peek into his game logs at AAA occasionally, and nothing seems to change at the plate (.210 - 240 BA most of the time). His fielding at SS, or sometimes at 2B, are well-known as his strong points. In the past few weeks he has exclusively played for Norfolk at 1B or LF.
What's that to mean? If he doesn't have an adequate bat to advance as a SS or Second Baseman...he surely lacks it at a traditional power and/or high average position.
