I just hope we somehow find a way to survive this unforseen banquet cancellation.

I just hope we somehow find a way to survive this unforseen banquet cancellation. Making me hungry! Tomorrow I'll eat at In-N-Out to commemorate the occasion, even if I have to wait 30 minutes in line

I found this part to be the most interesting. Barnes said “a lot” of the moves were “a conscious decision by me to make changes.” Barnes had promised after the NCAA Tournament loss that there would be changes, noting that there were things she should have “nipped in the bud. I think change is good sometimes, and it’s OK,” Barnes said Wednesday. “I think that you have to never compromise your culture and your values and integrity — if that’s important to you. And I think that you have to get people that are aligned with that in every way and not just in one way.”I think the natural reaction from fans when multiple players transfer is "what's wrong?" But Barnes makes it sound like at the very least she was OK with many of the transfers and probably even encouraged some of them. One thing the portal does allow for, is that if a coach is not pleased with the current roster, they can turn it over in a hurry and remake the culture/roster from year to year. We will probably never know, but it would be interesting how SR views each of the four departing transfers. He may not have been as upset about some of them as some of the fans were.

I'm bit of an Adia Barnes fan - especially impressed with how she took over a miserable program and turned it around.....Getting to the Final Four ain't easy, and she did it in very good time...
BUT... in her recent article about the portal, she sounds a bit too much like a coach who has access to the best players (a "Have program") and she's going to grab as many of them as she can while she can. She's knows it might not last forever.
Not that long ago Arizona was a "Have Not" program - and Adia is Arizona history if it becomes one again....
I don't mind a coach being pragmatic or transactional, or whatever, but I don't like her as much as saying that the players she lost didn't buy in, or wouldn't pay the price....
No need to blame the players when they have no way to say it ain't so......Not a Good Coach thing to say - whether it's true or not. GO BEAVS!!

It almost sounded like Barnes intended to regularly run people off via the portal, and had done so this year. Anybody else get that impression?

Lots of ways to go about your business as a coach, but chucking your ex-players under the bus is not good karma.

Maybe I'm jealous, but I don't like some of her actions/moves. I'm not sure there was a lot of honesty in her statement. If it's all about culture and right type of players in the program, why are all the players who are leaving bench players? I think honesty would say, "those players weren't ever going to be good enough to contribute much, so I'm looking for better". I wouldn't want her to be that rude, but it seems just as bad to say that they weren't fitting in to the culture she is trying to cultivate.

I’m not advocating for SR to emulate Barnes…. A word or twenty about those who chose to come to OSU, then chose to LEAVE doesn’t have to be self-serving. Is it a “family” or not?

It comes across as defensive by Barnes, and it likely is. Barnes is losing good players after having a good season; maybe they didn’t sufficiently buy in, but I guarantee the leaving players have a different story. It’s a small world among D1 athletes, and I think it’s far wiser to say nothing if you can’t say anything nice. CR has at least done himself favors in this respect.
I’ll say this - I’ll happily accept the defensive effort that Yeany bought into at UA.

Here is her most recent press conference:
She's very candid -- no doubt about that. She talks about making decisions to get rid of players and how she'd probably never have 15 players again.

She basically admits that she has and will "cut" players. She is not the first one to do it. Part of the ongoing trend of the professionalization of college sports.

The interview freezes on my screen when I try to watch it, so I don't know how explicitly she expressed that. But, although she is not the first to do it, she might be the first to put it on tape where it can be used against you in recruiting going forward.

Coaches have run off players from the start of time. Ralph did it too. Scott Rueck owes us nothing of an explanation as to why players left. Nothing. Again...players leave for various reasons. I don't want my personal business out there, and neither do the players who transfer out. Very few people get to know the athletes as people. In all sports, fans might be surprised at what some of our athletes are truly like. Some are great...some aren't great as people. I have a little insight as to some of the athletes in other sports. It isn't always the coaches fault...
