An email just went out under Rueck's signature that the banquet has been cancelled this year. One has to guess that the response was underwhelming.
Nothing to do with the transfer portal, though. Couldn't possibly be the case.

Sorry to hear this....
In the past I had to buy ticket weeks in advance for this event, and even then I usually received a table in the nose-bleed section.
I imagine the format for the evening ceremonies was seriously complicated by the large number of departures....
But my guess is that if they TRULY wanted the banquet to happen, they simply could have held it in a smaller venue.

This is interesting that the banquet was cancelled versus postponed? The reason given seems questionable. Lots of questions swirling around in my head.

I have no reason why it was cancelled other than the fact that there are only 4 players on the team. I will say this, we are in the beginning of AAU ball, and there are big tournaments this weekend, plus it's a very important time to pursue transfers. No time for snoozing......and I'm not saying they are.

But that's merely a guess. That’s basically what Scott said in the message - all the efforts are currently on filling out the roster. Usually OSU isn’t still looking for 3-4 players to add to the roster at this time. Next three or so weeks are when the transfer decisions will really begin to be made. Also, as others have mentioned, Friday starts the big live recruiting weekend. |

The email was sent out this morning to Rebounders(?), season ticket holders(?) - somebody must be able to provide a link to it; I don't know how to do that stuff.
It was basically using the time needed for recruiting as the reason for cancellation. Not sure I buy that as the real reason, but, whatever.

In your original post you blame the transfer portal as the reason for the cancellation. Then wouldn't it would follow that because of the transfer portal they need more time for recruiting, since three players they probably counted on to return didn't? Your statements contradict themselves. |
