The email was sent out this morning to Rebounders(?), season ticket holders(?) - somebody must be able to provide a link to it; I don't know how to do that stuff. It was basically using the time needed for recruiting as the reason for cancellation. Not sure I buy that as the real reason, but, whatever. In your original post you blame the transfer portal as the reason for the cancellation. Then wouldn't it would follow that because of the transfer portal they need more time for recruiting, since three players they probably counted on to return didn't? Your statements contradict themselves. How do they contradict themselves? In the original post, I implied, tongue heavily in cheek, that the actual reason for cancellation might have a lot to do with with a lack of enthusiasm for the banquet precipitated by 4 of our starters entering the portal. I would have thought that to be pretty obvious. The second post was a response to those who had asked what the email from Scott actually said. I explained that I didn't know how to post a link, hoped that somebody else might, and said that the reason given by Scott was the need to be recruiting. I then stated that I didn't necessarily buy into that. The two posts are far from contradictory, they are complementary. They both state that I don't believe hitting the recruiting trail was the actual, primary reason for cancelling the banquet. Didn't state or imply that anywhere that the staff's time wouldn't be better spent recruiting. Read them again.

That's great, but it smells like there's more to the story than just we gotta go recruit. Tell me what the “more to this story” you think there is? What scandal are you folks trying to say there is? I don't think anybody has remotely suggested there is any 'scandal' here. Over the last few weeks, I received about 4 promotional emails for the banquet, which would have been unnecessary 2 years ago. My thinking is the main reason for cancellation is that the response simply wasn't there, that they would have had an embarrassing turnout, and cancelled it for that reason. Nothing scandalous about that.

It would be REFRESHING for SR to respond/react (display a pulse…) to BeaverNation about the “loss” of core members of the team. Perhaps there is a communication “failure.” “What we have here………….”

Tell me what the “more to this story” you think there is? What scandal are you folks trying to say there is? I think the "more to the story" is that Rueck has almost no players on his roster so holding a banquet for said players would be... awkward. Probably part of it as a couple could have even been voted awards by teammates?!

So you remove KB, TJ, and GK you still have 10 players on the roster to celebrate in a banquet. Don’t really see how that is at all “awkward”.

Thanks for posting grey!!!!!! This is exactly what I want to hear from SR right now. I'm not sure many fans understand how difficult the next few years will be for SR and staff if they get behind other teams in the conference. The Beavs just had a top 5 recruiting class, and the program has been strong enough that many of the players being recruited grew up with the Beavs being a top 15 program. Missing the NCAA's this year and losing your top players at the same time will put doubts in the minds of top recruits. I'm hoping (and this note from SR seems to indicate) that this staff recognizes that they have to go all out now to make 2022/2023 a tournament season. If they don't, their jobs in future years will be that much tougher. There are big AAU tournaments this weekend and portal players to pursue. In my mind, that has to be priority number 1. Us fans, and celebrating the program at this banquet, needs to take a back seat until there is a full team landed and ready to go this fall.

Here is the message: Sounds completely logical to me. I’m inclined to take it at face value (I’m not a conspiracy buff). Hoping the recruiting and portal tracking efforts pay off for the forthcoming WBB season.

Bummer for the Seniors to not get a formal farewell with fans at a banquet.
On to the next...Tip-off Dinner
GO BEAVS!

Not a conspiracy theorist either. Sounds legit to me. Players leave for various reasons everywhere...that doesn't signify a problem within the program. Wasn't UA in the national title game two years ago and has lost numerous players to the portal this year? I,for one,am glad coach Rueck is taking this time to add players to the roster...hopefully athletes that fit the culture Scott has developed in his tenure. The re-stocking of the right players is more important than the team banquet imo.
Too...Scott isn't likely going to come out with an explanation as to why players are leaving the program. Players have privacy rights, and Scott can't talk about why they are leaving. Would you want your private business talked about publically by your boss, coach, etc? It's unprecedented that athletes have the ability to move to other schools without penalty. Players are taking advantage of it. It's the world we live in.

All in all, I think the message has great PR value. Plus, it rings true to Rueck's universal message to the fans of "thanks, appreciation and hope." This is his signature persona for OSU basketball and he's not about to change it for an unusual turn of events on the spring calendar.
The vast majority of important donors to OSU WBB are Seniors - as in over-65 Seniors. They appreciate his style and they are believers in it, and they contribute financially to the program in a very big way. He absolutely cannot afford to lose key players, key fans, and key contributors in the same season....
So, back to the beginning. The message had great PR value to the audience it was intended for. -------------- In the world of basketball as the rest of us know it - - we'll find out in the next 90 days whether Rueck has brought in enough quality players to offset the biggest loss of talent in his tenure at OSU. If he does, I'll be totally impressed. If he doesn't, the cancelled banquet will become an omen rather than a harmless memory. GO BEAVS!!

Maybe when we add a player, coach Rueck will speak about the defections. If not,I'm fine not knowing...
