As a spectator, the only sign of her shoulder problems I ever saw was the therapeutic tape on her right shoulder. Otherwise, I never saw any limit to her range of motion, no signs of pain or discomfort. She had surgery so there was obviously a problem that despite whatever measures they took, did not improve - but I guess she just toughed it out until she couldn't any longer. I seriously doubt, though, that Rueck pushed her beyond what she and Dr Aukerman's staff felt she could do. I'd certainly like to think that you are right but- 1- Why did she tack in the "mental and physical health" onto the standard nothing statement? 2- It would not be the first time this sort of thing happened in sports. Maybe it was something off-court and not associated with basketball? MB.

Trying to figure out how to word this without sounding dubious of a student athletes claims, but "mental health" is kind of a catch-all term that has expanded quite a bit in the last few years. Gianni Hunt removed himself from the team for mental health reasons, and then the day after he enters the portal fires off a tweet basically saying "I once hit a big shot and played some defense in a big game, this school never gave me an opportunity to shine." Again, I'm definitely NOT trying to say that Jones didn't have physical or mental health concerns that may be rectified by a change of school, more that the threshold for what physical and mental stresses necessitate a transfer may be lower than what we're used to. I'm still think we're living in a time when having poor mental health meant something far more severe than I think what it relates to now. We've been encouraged at work to take "mental health" days from time to time if we need them. Schools are tacking extra days on to spring break and/or winter break for teachers mental health, something that is still hard for me to fathom.
The world is changing, and I think faster than most of us want it to.

The portal has devolved to farce and we should view as that. No team ever has wanted a teammate who doesn't want to be there, so I wish these ladies good health, long and happy lives and look forward to meeting players coming in via the portal who want to play here. Besides, think of the off season workouts! 2 on 2, Jelena and Noele v. AJ and Talia. Would be entertaining at the least

Playing against Raegan should really make Jelena tough, because Raegan can be a bit physical.

But somewhere there is a balance between taking mental health seriously and learning how to meet and overcome adversity.

Didn’t TJ lose her mom to a prolonged bout with cancer about the time she started at OSU? Coming to OSU in the immediate aftermath of that family tragedy was a big move for her. Maybe she thought a change of scenery would help her get over the impact of it. Maybe she has, and now she feels ready to go back to more familiar surroundings? Who knows? But since we’re “reading tea leaves”, I could see that as one plausible rationale. I wish her nothing but the best. And no, I don’t think she owes fans anything more in the way of explanation than what she’s given.

She also doesn't deserve being denigrated or considered a "traitor" because SHE made a decision regarding what was best for HER life.

Saw this on Facebook. It is part of a comment that was left by Taylor's dad:
"I made the mistake of going on BP to see what they were saying about the ladies leaving prior to Taylor announcing……Made Me Sick at what these uninformed, Factless, Monday Morning Armchair Point Guard Idiots were saying about Destiny Sasha Gretta Kennedy and now Taylor. I’m not going to go into details I’ll let y’all go see for yourselves. I will share one point that a gentleman made though. He simple asked all The Idiots…..”Why are y’all bashing 18, 19 and 20 year olds for making what is obviously an agonizing decision that The NCAA Adults put in place ? They are simply using what was put in front of them. Coaches do it all of the time”. I don’t want to end this on that last point. I want to say one more time…We will miss all of y’all. We will continue to cheer for Oregon State in everything. Watch every game that we can. We Love y’all and of course: Go Beavs !!!!"

Wow, what an unfortunate Facebook response. There are some spicy comments, but it's a FAN BOARD. Maybe a calmer explanation would be this, a lot of ticketholders are diehard Beaver fans and alumni, they invest a lot of time and money in the sports programs, they love getting to know the players and their stories, so when a player decides to leave, it’s a little like a divorce, they feel rejected, they leave the Beaver family, and in most cases, no one knows why other than a vague press release. I don’t know what responses he expected from a Fan Board….......”Awesome news TJ, great decision!?” Monday Morning Armchair Point Guard Idiots? As Joe B says, Com’om Man.

There's none of those people on there. That's the source for the truth! If you're a parent and you're lurking on a message board after your daughter announces she's transferring, what do you expect to find?

I don't think he was looking for complimentary posts here at "Bernie's Place"! I thought there were a lot. Sometimes a player (or people living as grown-ups) has/have to go deep into the Valley of Criticism to see where he/she needs to grow - not that Bernie's is that place, although there are some experts here that pull no punches (I am not one). An athlete also needs thick skin, and the water should run off their backs like a Beaver. Reading Vicki's FB page is nice for getting lots of pats on the back, and is probably a good place for parents to hang out. Personally, I like reading it, but it's pretty whitewashed.

Well, I saw some pretty dumb arse comments about each player... "mid-major talent", "quitter", "traitor". But, dumb arse is found often on message boards. And FB I'm told as I've never ventured there. However, the overwhelming majority of people were positive or questioning motive at worst.
Dad better hope Taylor does not pick a "more elite" program as the fan boards are not so kind in some places. But, of course you always wonder about folks who post demeaning comments on social media, about demeaning comments??
I do think fans tend to fault the player before looking at the staff in these situations. As we all know there can be many reasons for a player to transfer. Heck, look at the general population retention rates of students! But, when player(s) staff have a deep connection with open communication, and there's the utmost trust, many of the other factors for a transfer can be overcome. Essentially the academics at a school have not changed. So it comes down to family, or some type of personality conflict within the program or school setting that can not be overcome.
Whatever it is I toss transfers into the same "bowl" as recruits who don't sign with OSU... no hard feelings, good luck, but you're not a Beaver so I really don't care.
