Last 10 games the beaver pitchers have given up 154 hits, add the walks and errors and they are pitching to a whip of 2.00. I guess every team we play is a good hitting team

I guess every team we play is a good hitting team I said it before, and I'll say it again, if anything kills this team it'll be pitching.....what we saw today is game 4 of a tough regional as far digging deep for pitching...... Thank God NV's pitching was worse than ours, cuz we most likely won't have that luxury in the tournament.

I guess every team we play is a good hitting team And we're playing .700 baseball over that span (7-3). Yes, we need to get better on the mound. But those 10 games are behind us, with seven wins in the bank. In sports, yesterday or last week don't matter. Today and tomorrow do.

Yep always keep moving forward.....and it's baseball crazy s%#t happens from week to week.....guys who look like s%#t one week figure it out the next. That said, I think it's ok to be a little concerned with what we're seeing from the staff......here's to Pfennings coming back and our staff continuing to grow!

But you like to emphasize it, neglecting to mention that we are down 2 weekend starters, almost as if you expect the Beavers to be as capable putting their midweek starters on Saturday and Sunday, and digging even deeper for midweek pitching. Now, imagine if Kmatz had started yesterday and Ferrer today. Completely different feel, right? OTOH, I thought Lattery put in a fine performance yesterday and Hunter today as well. They are developing nicely and will become strong Beaver pitchers. And Brown was great closing the games.

Yeah, but two huge questions remain unanswered....1) What the he!! has happened to Mitchell Verberg? Confidence gone? Arm gone? Whatever it is, we're going nowhere without a closer of sorts; 2) When is Pfennigs returning, and will he be effective when he does?? We absolutely need positive answers/outcomes to both questions. Otherwise it'll be a short post-season.

That's fair - but judging by scores, results, and the D1 baseball podcast, there are a lot of teams with pitching depth issues this year.

I guess every team we play is a good hitting team It's possible that at least 2 (or 3? or 4?) of the pitchers that were tagged with those 15.4 hits per game, will never see the mound in a PAC-12 game...and certainly not in post-season. In the 6 PAC-12 games including in the 10 games referenced, Beaver pitching has allowed 44 hits in 6 games. 7.3 hits per game is not great....but it can play pretty well ( as indeed, the Beavs are 4-2 in those 6 PAC-12 games...with two series wins). And If / When Pfennigs returns, it all improves.

Otherwise it'll be a short post-season. Verburg hit 94 according to the announcers, so his arm seems to be okay. Maybe a slight change on his grip would give him more movement. Also breaking balls don't have the same bite at 4500'. They keep pitching him because he needs the work to get his mojo back.

Young pitchers got vital game experience. Coach Dorman got to see them react to difficulties (he had a slow hook) and we got 2 W’s
As said multiple times, our weekday starters are pitching on Sat & Sun. We should expect to give up some runs. As for the offense. I am glad Coach Canham let some young backups get some meaningful innings. It is good for evaluation and good for morale. We never know who will get an injury, but odds are that one or more of our starters will miss significant time.

And If / When Pfennigs returns, it all improves. In 9 Pac 12 games Beaver pitchers have a 4.28 ERA / 79.2 Innings/ 73 hits/ 22 BB/ 77 K's /.243 BA Now the breakdown by pitcher in Pac 12 play with at least 2 Innings. Lattery 0.00 ERA/ 4 IN/ 1 H/ 2 BB/ 6 SO/.077 BA Hunter 0.00 ERA/ 2 IN/ 1 H/ 0 BB/ 1 SO/ .145 BA Sebby 1.13 ERA/ 8 IN/ 5 H/ 2 BB/ 9 SO/ .167 BA Hjerpe 3.12 ERA/ 17.1 IN/ 13 H/ 4 BB/ 24 SO/ .200 BA
Kmatz 3.38 ERA/ 16 IN/ 13 H/ 4 BB/ 12 SO/ .206 BA Ferrer 3.48 ERA/ 10.1 IN/ 8 H/ 2 BB/ 10 SO/ .222 BA
Brown 4.50 ERA/ 4 IN/ 2 H/ 2 BB/ 4 SO/ .154 BA
Lawson 4.91 ERA/ 3.2/ 6 H/ 1 BB/ 4 SO/ .400 BA
Townsend 6.35 ERA/ 5.2/ 9 H/ 1 BB/ 1 SO/ .409 BA
Verberg 11.25 ERA/ 4 IN/ 7 H/ 1 BB/ 3 SO/ .413 BA
Carpenter 15.43 ERA/ 2.1 IN/ 3 H/ 2 BB/ 1 SO/ .300 BA
Are there areas of improvement needed in this pitching staff? - "Absolutely," they're a work in progress.
Is the hysterical reaction, to some of our pitchers getting "beaten like a drum" a little bit over the top?
"Absolutely, 6 or 7 of these pitchers aren't that bad."(That's without a healthy Pfennigs)

They way I look at is this. The post season play always taxes the pitching staff. Guys are getting more innings now than they probably expected to see back in January. These inning are giving Dorman a lot of information on how to work them and how to develop them.
Maybe our team pitching numbers don’t look good, but development is happening. We’ll be stronger down the road.
