Thought this should get its own thread.
Not exactly a surprise given how the second half of the year went for her. She showed a lot of promise against lesser competition, but (aside from the one Stanford game) PAC-12 competition never slowed down for her. I wish she would have stuck around because I really think she could have become a player by her junior year.
This gives Oregon State 10 players for next season (four of which will be freshmen). We'll have to get about 2-3 guard/wings from the portal.

She is mid- major material. Really had high hopes for her.

She is mid- major material. Really had high hopes for her. I think she could be impactful at a high-major, but she was nowhere near as game ready as I thought. She didn’t have much competition at the guard positions, and she wasn’t able to show that she deserved those minutes. I thought she would have been able to give us 9-12 points right away. As sparty mentioned yesterday, this is potentially one of those positions you could upgrade at in the portal depending on who we can get.

And so it goes, par for the course in college basketball these days. No reason to believe we would be immune.
Next woman up. Good luck to Greta.

She is mid- major material. Really had high hopes for her. The ole uo “we didn’t want her anyway” argument. Classy.

If Greta leaves, it would perhaps make it less likely that AJ would - silver lining in the cloud.
I must confess that this whole portal thing is beginning to erode my interest in women's hoops overall. I like having our girls for 4 years and being enthusiastic about how so and so is going to contribute to next year's team - the type of stuff we do regularly on this board.
And I like Oregon having all their players for 4 years, and all the other teams as well. The matchups against the Ducks when Ionescu, Hebard, and Sabally were there? Great, great stuff! Something we all looked forward to every year.
Now, for the last several weeks, we've been wondering who might leave where, and now we're actually reporting on it. For the second consecutive year this coming November, the old adage, "you can't tell the players without a scorecard," is going to be a truism at arenas all around the country.
So I'm starting to ask myself if I really want to be so deeply invested in this game going forward. I don't yet know the answer.

Players can now only transfer once without sitting out, so you will not be seeing players on their 4th school going forward.

That is why I can't stomach the mens game before the portal kicked in and started changing the womens game too. As a fan you need to separate yourself from any continuity with the team.

Does anyone think the distance from home has anything to do with this?

Does anyone think the distance from home has anything to do with this? Doubt it. I think it was about her loss of confidence. Once PAC-12 play hit she was a different player. I think she wants a fresh start.

Surprised, but not surprised, I guess. A season long starter who ended the season on the bench. Third McD AA to leave the program early in the last 3 years. I’m not sure what, if anything, to make of that. Except maybe to temper expectations of HS awards and rankings, including McD AA, translating to on-court performance at the highest D-1 levels.
I wish her luck and to find a setting more conducive to her game.

She was certainly given the opportunity to display her talents. I wish her the best, and do believe she can have a solid career somewhere. Saying that, this gives the Beavs even more opportunity to find the guard/guards they need to take the next step back up the ladder. If the Beavs don't sign 2-4 high talent guards/wings, we'll all be disappointed. This is the chance for the Beavs to be very competitive next season, or wait while young talent develops.

I wonder if, after Talia's post about "we'll see you next year" this is a surprise to her.
At the end of the season Greta stopped being a starter and AJ was actually getting more minutes than her. I think giving Mack the starting position and more minutes won more games but lost Greta. This will be a loss that Rueck will come to regret. Greta's fundamental's are very good, she just needs to have her self confidence reinforced. And cutting her minutes to a third was not the way to do that.

Presumably GK’s decision came after meetings with coaches? Presumably. But Rueck is so tight lipped about these things we’ll probably never really know unless GK makes a public statement.
