I had some girlfriends enter the transfer portal. They didn't leave notes like that though, or wish me luck in every instance.

Go back and look at some of Goodman’s and Tudor’s minutes their freshman years. They didn’t quit…..

Go back and look at some of Goodman’s and Tudor’s minutes their freshman years. They didn’t quit….. Goodman and Tudor both knew who was ahead of them when they signed. Ahead of Tudor was hanson, McWilliams, and wiese, pivec was also a freshman. Goodman had McWilliams, pivec, Tudor, and slocum ahead of her. Each recruit knew the roster when they signed. Greta on the other hand knew Talia was on the roster. Codding, Adams, and marotte were brought in late. So greta didn't get the playing time she expected. Did she quit? Maybe or not. Also Greta was a higher recruited person and perhaps because of that she expected to play more at the start.

Greta started 25 of 31 games. Not bad for a true Freshman. She averaged the 5th most minutes per game on the squad, behind perennial leader Corosdale, TVO, super-Senior Ellie Mack and Kennedy Brown.

Bodhisattva mentioned “ How many coaches are actively recruiting players that are already playing on other teams? I know it's been accused, but what are the consequences of it happening if proven.”
So a coach can’t recruit until the season’s over. What about asking for suggestions from members already on the team? Or putting out feelers amongst young players they know? When potential recruits are mentioned, there is often the comment like She knows “ X,Y, and Z “ from AA ball or instate opponents, or relatives. Like a coach says “A.J do you know any hot point guards from your high school career that might want to join our team”?

Destiny had to sit out the year Aleah was a freshman. The next year Destiny was eligible to play as a redshirt sophomore and Aleah was a sophomore. Greta was given more minutes than she probably deserved. She was good but not great on defense but her issue was her shooting. To me it didn't look like she was hitting a high percentage of shots in the warm ups, probably about the same as in the game.

Coaches and players know who is unhappy around the country and players from different schools certainly talk among themselves privately. Once someone goes into the portal, they are fair game and anyone can contact them.

It struck me halfway through the season, when it was clear we were rebuilding, why he didn't mix up the starting lineup more? Different players will give you different results when starting vs. coming off the bench. Start AJ or hell, start Noelle and see what happens. All the numbers are great but when it comes to chemistry you have to experiment. I seemed he played it safe and Greta is safe; didn't impact the game but also didn't make a lot of mistakes and was more than willing to give the ball to someone else. Start a small ball lineup. Start a jumbo package. With Greta it felt like he was starting her out of obligation or a hope to keep her around.

Greta's minutes were cut way back during the WNIT - down to the single digits for the last two games. That she was struggling was on full display during the NMS game - she missed all her shots and did not look at all confident out there. SR tried to play her, but it just wasn't working. I felt sorry for her during that game.
She is a high level player who will thrive elsewhere. Sometimes it just doesn't work out. I wish she had stuck it out - there are countless teams that don't really play their freshmen much, but then, most all of those freshmen are not 5-star athletes.

That's unfortunate Greta lacks the talent to play in the PAC-12. She is the second 5 Star OSU recruit to enter the Portal. It is very difficult to build or sustain a sucessful program when players are coming and going every year.
Who is evaluating these 5-Star prospects? More importantly, who is offering them a scholarship and why if they can't play at this level?
You want to avoid the risk involved with portal dependency. Ask WT.

One of the reasons I am an OSU WBB season ticket holder is the kids stick around for 3-4 years. And its one of the reasons I don't really watch MBB, because the players can bolt to the pros after a single season. Hopefully this portal stuff simmers down, and we can keep our recruits from bailing as frequently as they have these past 2 years.

At the end of the day no one should be bigger than the team.

As bad as it is to lose a couple players, how do these teams survive that lose more? There were a bunch with 7 and I saw Morehead St. with 11, which is pretty much replacing the whole team (and possibly the coach).
