Good bye and good luck. Hope a fresh start is what she needs. She was good on defense but we needed scorers and she just wasn't consistent enough.

She is mid- major material. Really had high hopes for her. The ole uo “we didn’t want her anyway” argument. Classy. Yep... 5*, McD's AA... but, she's mid major now. However, next year's 5* McD's AAs are automatic contributors! Freaking tons and tons of posts on how great she was, will be, is going to be. Now this. Hope she goes somewhere and excels!

Not being a basketball player, I can only guess - but it'd be my guess that Shooting is closely tied to Confidence. After December, Greta never seemed to get her confidence rolling for more than an occasional moment.
Her .339 FG% was the lowest on the squad.
I have no doubt that in a new situation, she could prosper.

I think a fair amount of people were generally disappointed with her play after the Maui tournament. It was somewhat telling that she wasn’t able to beat out a decent mid-major player for minutes on a team that desperately needed a guard to step up. FWIW, she was a four-star, not a five-star. Most five-stars have generally been pretty impactful early on at OSU. We may have been somewhat spoiled by the early impacts of Kennedy and Sasha. Luckily we’ve got solid returners (as of now) at Raegan and Timea’s positions. I too wish her the best and hope she finds somewhere she can excel. She’ll have no shortage of options.

I wish her nothing but the best wherever she goes. It still breaks my heart to see her go.

I sure can’t imagine she’s leaving because she didn’t get enough opportunities- I thought she got more that she earned this year (Probably could’ve said of a few on this years roster). For whatever reason she didn’t excel, and apparently she believes a change was needed; maybe it’s even mutual, but doesn’t se likely give that I don’t recall her being in any doghouse.
I’m disappointed, but mainly because I thought she’d bring more as a frosh. I am still hopeful that she has a lot more to offer at this level, but the odds are not great that this is the case. Hope she finds a spot that works wonders for her confidence -as long as long as it’s not in our conference!

I wish Greta well and bear her no ill. But I can't help but believe that a good number of those entering the portal are doing so through a sense of entitlement that has been nurtured all along. Basically, it is, "I'm a star, have always been a star, and have always been portrayed as a star by the media and by the fans. If I go to a school and am not an immediate star there, it must be the school's fault; it's certainly not mine. So I don't need to work in the offseason to improve areas that have been demonstrated to be in need of extra effort on my part. I need to move to another school that will allow me to be a star."
That's hardly just Greta I refer to; that's all of the women's game's equivalent of the one and dones that ruined my interest in the men's game. My wife and I were talking about this earlier, and we both were thinking the same thing. We weren't looking forward to seeing Timea and Raegan next year, but rather wondering which one would still be here the year after next.
Sorry to be such a downer, but that's what I think.

Greta got plenty of opportunities to showcase herself. I thought Greta played well on defense, but when she had her opportunities on offense, it didn't click for Greta. I also noticed Greta was not a confident ball handler, even in the NIT, Greta treated the ball like a hot potato in the backcourt--couldn't wait to give it up. I wish her the very best, and my hope is she becomes the basketball player she dreams about.

Surprised, but not surprised, I guess. A season long starter who ended the season on the bench. Third McD AA to leave the program early in the last 3 years. I’m not sure what, if anything, to make of that. Except maybe to temper expectations of HS awards and rankings, including McD AA, translating to on-court performance at the highest D-1 levels. I wish her luck and to find a setting more conducive to her game. Same thing around the conference. We are finding out that what looks good on paper does not necessarly give success at the college level. That why it is better to lower the expectations of those coming in because time and time again it ends up being a big disappointment,

I think you're right about many of the student athletes, but I think Greta tried too hard. She was like a friend of mine in high school who was valedictorian, straight A student all through every grade 1 thru 12; however, he couldn't handle the pressure of being perfect as a freshman at OSU. The pressure of getting perfect grades was too much, so he found a job, got married, ended up getting certified with a highly in-demand skill. Perhaps Greta will settle down and we'll see that she's found peace with herself - and we'll be hoping not to have to play her team :^)

It's interesting of some comments to sasha leaving a year ago and Greta leaving now. Haven't seen any negative comments regarding Greta but wasn't the case with Sasha. Maybe some posters weren't used to the portal a year ago. Don't know. Its just interesting the tone of the comments.

It was very gut wrenching and emotional last year, and now we've learned what the new expectations are. It still hurts. A lot more can be said, but we've had it pretty easy compared to a lot of schools.

I think it's a little funny that people have already made up their mind about her after 1 year of college ball. Players develop and get better. Not everyone comes in as a freshmen and lights it up. I miss all our players that leave in the portal. It's a different world now than it was just a few years ago, and as an old man I'm having a hard time adjusting to these NIL deals and all the transfers. I understand it sometimes benefits the players, but that doesn't mean it makes the game better.
How many coaches are actively recruiting players that are already playing on other teams? I know it's been accused, but what are the consequences of it happening if proven.

Players that leave because they aren’t getting opportunities might fit this description, but that wasn’t the case for Greta (or Sasha for that matter). Playing a sport at an elite college level comes with a ton of pressure, and Katie Meyer’s death really put a spotlight on how hard that can be to handle, especially in programs with the expectation to win. We have no idea how much of what Greta expects of herself comes from her versus external inputs throughout her career. She clearly didn’t play with confidence, and gaining confidence while playing in the Pac and feeling constant pressure to perform and earn minutes vs elite incoming HS talent and transfers isn’t something everybody can deal with well. It’s much better for all involved if she transfers and plays up to her potential than flounder for her footing within a program that is a constant grind every week in conference play. I have no idea if a change of scenery will help, but I am sure it would wreck a lot of folks mentally to come in with the hype of AA status and then not live up to the level of play it assumes.
