Not even winning a National Title and probably being the favorite to win the next one is enough to keep some players in place. Saniya Rivers, part of the #1 ranked '21 recruiting class is moving on from South Carolina. I think she was in the top 5 by most ranking services.

I thought this was a good point, coming from a very successful player like Aja Wilson, for a percent of the players that are just frustrated because they aren't an instant start in college also: and to put it in better context, here is the tweet that it started with, liked by Jelena, maybe says something about her attitude towards the portal.

On Wilson’s comment, how is this different than using playing time as a recruiting tool? I mean, if you commit to a place thinking there’s a good path to playing time and that doesn’t play out (due to transfers in, other recruits, etc), then things changed. It’s one thing to not wait your turn, it’s another to see that your turn isn’t likely to come up.
The media likes to do stories about that kid that waited their turn and flourishes their senior year when they get their opportunity due to an injury, etc, but we never hear about the 10x more stories about the kid who simply sat most minutes clear through their eligibility. Wilson is speaking from her high horse of it working out for her, but very often it does not as well.
The simple reality is that while every team needs role players, nobody wants to be one — unless they aren’t that into getting big minutes and are focused on their education. The transfer portal has simply exposed that competitive people aren’t patient and prioritize what they want over the needs of the team they are on. This should surprise nobody.

Some of my thoughts on guards. Most of these players are followed by OSU coaches recently: PG: - I like the Cavinder twins, but my gut tells me they’re headed to a school in Florida or Arizona. - Van Gytenbeek makes a lot of sense. Within the Pac-12 footprint, knows the Pac-12, knows some of our players. Good shooter and true PG. I think she could be a lesser impactful Aleah. - Maddie Krull from South Dakota intrigues me. She was a relatively highly rated recruit. Didn’t have a great sophomore campaign, but she was a key player on a really good USD team. I’ll say she follows her coach to WVU. - Kayla Williams from UC Irvine would be a nice get. She’s another one from the Pac-12 footprint and she was a top-100 recruit.
SG/W - Sarah Bates from Georgia Tech may be a possibility. OSU would be her fourth school. She’d be a shooter off the bench. Probably wouldn’t log a ton of minutes, but could be a decent role player. Started her career at UCSB. - Kemery Martin would be a solid option. She has good length and versatility. She’s been inconsistent at Utah, but she had a good sophomore year when she was All Pac-12 HM. - Brynna Maxwell would add a much needed sharpshooter. She’s given OSU fits over the years and perhaps she could settle into a Kat Tudor role if she works on her defense. - Stephanie Visscher from SFA has a solid all around game. I’m hesitsnt about mid-major transfers, but she’s had a solid career for a really strong SFA program. - Bendu Yeaney may be looking to return home for her last stop. Started for an AZ team that was the national runner up. Not a big scorer, but a solid player whose defense, athleticism, experience, and toughness would benefit OSU.
I’ll look to add a few later.

Beavs do seem to showing interest in Yeaney. She's never been a good shooter, but her freshman year at Indiana was probably her best year. Shot .371 from the floor and made 28-71 3pt attempts for .394 percentage. She averaged 8.4pts and 9.7pts her first two seasons at Indiana. I wouldn't be surprised to see her match those numbers with the Beavs.
I like Stephanie Visscher's experience and numbers at SFA, but I see no social media interest from the Beavs. Her experience would be great to go along with a younger player. I'd be happy with landing Kemery Martin and/or Brynna Maxwell. Again, I'm surprised that Jenny is not following Brynna on twitter, but perhaps Jonas had the previous relationship with both Kemery and Brynna and he's doing the talking with those two.
We'll know soon about the Cavinder twins as they are going to announce their short list soon, but I'm agreeing with you. I don't expect the Beavs to be on that list.
Van Gytenbeek would be a great addition and she does know a lot of the Oregon State players. I think her experience at Stanford would fit well for learning the Oregon State system.
Kayla Williams looks like a viable option. She's getting interest from Washington as well as the Beavs. Her and Talia would make for a very dangerous backcourt. I'd love to see her give the Beavs a shot. Can Scott and Jenny out-recruit Katie for her? I still think Washinton has a real shot at making themselves better this summer. Especially with so many NW players in the portal.

I don't know much about the Cavinder twins - but I'm really curious what kind of a starting rotation a major college coach could possibly have to work in two 5'6 transfer guards.... I presume they both expect floor time. Maybe a team with solid rebounding, but low scoring, bigs. Who knows. It's really hard to think of any Pac-12 team that has started two 5'6 guards - maybe Arizona when they had McDonald - but I can't imagine either of these girls are in McDonald's category....
I think a lot of teams would like to have the better player of the two - but taking both of them seems like trouble in the making. GO BEAVS!!

The portal has been warming up for so long somebody is going to get burned. At peak this year the D1 portal had more players in it than is in a typical freshman class. Many players will not have a seat when the music stops.

Haley Cavinder is like Mik in the rebounding department. Averaged 9.6 this year and 8.3 thru 3 years. Who cares if she's only 5-6? While nowhere near the same, Hanna is averaging 3.2 for her career. I'm sure you can find plenty of players taller than 5-6 who grab less boards than that.

nwhoopfan: Yes, what you are getting at makes sense to me....
I agree that they are both good players - - what I was getting at is what kind of a team can squeeze two players, at that size, onto their floor-time roster.... Maybe it's possible and I'm being too narrow in my view.....I guess we'll see....
My experience is that if you have 5'6 kids getting that many rebounds per game you've got a real problem with your bigs, and you also have guards playing out of position, or sagging off their check, far more than a "discipline" coach would prefer....
In a nutshell, these girls are good players, probably very good - but the practical question is where does a GOOD team play them? (Assuming they both expect floor time). On a good team, with good 3, 4, & 5s I expect their rebounding numbers would be cut in half, and their scoring likewise.
Being a Northwest Hoop fan you might remember Johnny & Eddie O'Brien the "mini" twin brothers who carried U. Seattle - - so anything is possible - just not probable!!!..... GO BEAVS!!

Those old enough will remember the Van Arsdale twins on the Indiana men's team long, long ago.
I know nothing about these two. Do they play the 1 and 2 spots, so they're both on the floor at the sane time? If so, the combined 12.8 rebounds per game would seem to indicate their height, or lack of same, is not a big issue.
If they can both play point well, I can see a team like OSU taking both and telling them that, if they perform, they basically split the 40 minutes per game. Talia plays the 2, with Adlee as her backup. Once again, however, I have no clue whether that idea is viable.
I would think it might be difficult to transfer as a package.
