My pre-game observation was that they are not able to beat even the worst teams in the league by a significant point margin. Looks like today they might not even manage to win. At the end of the game one point is a significant margin of you are the team ahead. Sorry to spoil your day but the Beavs managed to win. English translation?

At the Rebounders event after the game, Scott said they had a recruit at today's game. Anybody shed any light on that? Hopefully it was a point guard. Amanda Muse. 2023. 6’4” forward from Nor Cal. Plays for Cal Stars. Solid player, but not a PG.

I don't see AJ transferring. I think she probably realizes she's a freshman and has to pay her dues before significant minutes come her way. Greta and Talia were already committed here when she switched from Washington, so she knew from the beginning she'd be competing with them for minutes.
There are very few upperclassmen on next year's team, other than what we get in the portal - Taya (if she comes back; I doubt it), Kennedy, Taylor, and Noelle. I think there's plenty of opportunity for AJ next year, and I really like her game.
On another note, at the Rebounders evert this afternoon, when Taya was introduced, a brief chant of "one more year" went up from those assembled. I suspect one or two on this board might have instigated it.

In the second half the Beav's had 13 TO's and 26 rebounds. Beav's rebounding wins games, TO's can be a problem, but the Beav's path to victory is through rebounding.
Hitting shots helps also, but considering how badly they shot the 3 even that is second to rebounding.

There was a fun moment when Tea gets the inbound pass and, I think, Curry sets to slow her down and Tea just takes off and totally leaves Curry behind. I think Tea may be the fastest player I've seen with the Beav's.

Dissapointed the coaching staff didn't recognize earlier that we needed to have guards in the game who played defense. The Cal guards can flat out shoot and convert if they don't have a hand in their face. Finally, in the middle of the 3rd quarter, OSU Coaches put in Tea Adams, Noelle Mannen, and AJ. It was these 3 that were responsible for Cal's poor shooting in Q3. Why did Rueck take them out? As soon as these 3 went to the bench, our team was lost again. Hopefully, coaches will be quicker to adjust in next 2 games. Tara V. (Stanford) makes the best in game substitutions, and I hope we get better. Not sure why KB is struggling with the 1-foot shot? She flat out missed wide open lay-ins again. Mental block? I really like KB, and hope she gets it going down low--we need her. Taya was her usual awesome self. My game ball goes to AJ. She is fearless, and believes in herself, and is an awesome defender. Really gets after it. This kid is going to be a good one. We have to get over making unforced turnovers. Half of our turnovers were 100% mental errors. On we go to UTAH/Colorado. Gotta play better to win on the road. GO BEAVS. Yeah, we haven't seen a lot of smaller lineups this year. Rueck seems to really like having at list 1 dedicated post player on the floor at all times. I think AJ becomes the best player in the class at some point. She is developing slower because she has so many more tools to work on. She could even be the PG ala Didi Richards but faster and with a 3 ball. I get the sense Kennedy is not a fan of back to the basket post work. She came here to be a face-up 4 with Taylor on the block. She's having to adapt on the fly the Taylor sidelined. Beers coming in next year will have an immediate impact. I really think we can win both in the mountains as the team has clearly gotten better over this diabolical stretch. Adams, Marotte, Codding especially have had real leaps forward in their roles.

However, he mid-range jump shot might change that, especially if she can really improve her handle. However, if she's able to become a better player than TVO watch out, we will be a very, very good team.

IMO it's a very good sign that Rueck went to the smaller lineup and that he's been willing to go with Codding and Adams at the point instead of pushing TVO at point when it's obvious she thrives at SG/Wing (her natural spot). I've been pounding the table for adding as much quickness to the backcourt as possible and I believe SR is very aware of the value that Codding and Adams bring to the table in getting the ball up the court and now using Mannen as needed as a defensive stopper. It's too bad that Adams is gone after this season..she seems to be really coming on now and has been more aggressive with taking the ball to the hoop and scoring. As it stands right now, the Beavers do not have a true point guard type on the roster moving forward with the exception of Mannen. Add one or two in the offseason (and I have to think Rueck is going to do his best to get one) and next year starts looking pretty good (assuming Taylor Jones is able to come back at 100 percent)..Corosdale coming back would be a huge plus as well, but we can't count on that... One other concern IMO is that SR has painted himself into a corner a bit through recruiting so many SG types...there's a logjam with TVO, Greta and AJ coming back along with Hansford and Blacklock. Maybe one can take over at point or Rueck plays a lot of three-guard sets, but that would cut into the forwards' court time. Interesting situation.

Noelle has the short-person problem and she’s not real quick, but I have to admit she played some very good defense on Curry. And, as Rueck alluded to after the game, she “plays smart” and gives it her all. That said, she isn’t a solution (except as a backup) and Rueck does need to add someone if Blacklock or Hansford can’t take over at the point. I don’t see Hansford doing it, but there is some chance that Blacklock can; she’s a very good passer and sees the court well, besides the fact that she is a 3pt threat (my concern is whether or not she is quick enough). Greta still seems to me like she could potentially play point, but I haven’t been impressed with her ball-handling (she’s lost the handle a number of times driving into the paint). One thing I was seeing was that AJ was open streaking to the hoop a lot and no one was able to get her the ball. I’m hoping that we can take advantage of that more next year. Passing has been a weakness of this team for a long time… especially visible in our post passing; it really seems like we should be able to get the ball to our front-line players a lot better than we do. We should see some improvement in that Rueck has talked about Beers and Gardiner as being great passers; if Gardiner is playing at forward and on the perimeter, that could help a lot.

Yes, I agree that Mannen isn't the solution when looking for a potential starter...just wanted to give credit where it's due and we now see that she can play some D as well as hit an occasional 3...makes for a solid backup moving forward. I don't really see any of the present or incoming SGs stepping in as a full-time PG either. And I don't really like the idea. I think Rueck has relied on it too much in the past. The forward and post situation looks very promising. Gardiner and Beers should be great fits for OSU.

Noelle was the solution for this game, we were going the wrong direction when coach put her in. She may not be quick but she knows angles. I'm not sure we win this game without her. She may never start but she is getting better all the time and looking forward I think she will find minutes.

I agree with AJ being very fast down the court. I'd like to see some plays in the system that look like what Stanford does. They have Jones inbound - VERY quickly - to Wilson who is speeding down the court and passes to one of the Hull twins for a good first look. It maybe takes 4 seconds. If AJ played the Hull twins in this scenario, she could feasible have a lot of quick good looks.
