You're so right, Werebeaver. It was even funner to watch in person. I thought Close might have a stroke she was so distraught after Corosdale hit the three with 1 second on the clock.

The announcers predicted that FUCLA would start going to Thomas first thing in the second half. It was affective in getting easy points and getting brown out of there. Because brown doesn’t front the other teams post, denying the pass to Thomas and Brown was behind her and vornerable. But that was also short circuited because when Rueck went with Mitrovic that neutralized Thomas. Whom they needed to get scores with. Why did it nuetralize thomases score ability. Because Close saw that with Mitrovic in the post area that would slow FUCLA down inside. So Close needed to move Thomas to a decoy. She started moving Thomas outside to bring Mitrovic away from the basket! Then ucla started going inside slashing with short shots and drives crashing the boards. If it wasn’t for our point explosion that got us control of the game Close had a good game plan to get back in this game. Good news once we got that lead we parked Mitrovic down low and the rest was history! Great game beavs.

Great weekend for the Beavs. Consistent in all the interviews was a focus on pushing the ball in transition, and having runners for TvO to locate and deliver a great pass. Love this much better than walking the ball up court. AJ, Ellie, and Taya all were on the receiving end of transition passes from TvO for a quick 2 (and 1). Our defensive rebounders are looking for both TvO and Tea Adams, and pushing the ball is huge for OSU.
We will be tested this weekend at the Arizona schools. I think it even more important for us to push the ball in transition against these schools. Glad we are playing ASU first. Then we have UA, OR x 2, Stanford....BRUTAL

I'm surprised you are so pessimistic on her. She's shown flashes this year of having significantly more upside vs. Hamblin IMO. I think it's in the realm of possibility that she becomes the Arvydas Sabonis of OSU WBB by her Sr year. Say what?! Aryvdas was considered to be the best big man in the world for a number of years. I might be guilty of being pessimistic, but I'd say you're being way over the top optimistic with that comparison. Or did you mean the version of Arvydas that finally showed up and played for the Blazers and was still skilled, but completely broken down physically? I’m referring to the Sabonis I actually got to see play in Portland. I do think she can become a facilitator if the offense from the high post, bully her way to the basket to score points, and get fast breaks going with rebounding and good outlet passes. Until she showed she can get fired up and show some aggression, I didn’t like her upside. Now that she is showing some of that, I am much more optimistic about her future, because her size and consistent shot form is such a great foundation - add a competitive streak to that, and I have high hopes. Hyperbole was intended, but my optimism is real. I encourage everyone to watch this video from about 5:30 on and just focus on Jelena That last sequence in particular where she is surrounded and even puts the ball on the floor and UCLA still can't force a TO is a long ways from the Jelena who would lose the ball with the smallest of bumps when she arrived at OSU.

Jelena is really grabbing the ball with authority! She has such a loose grip in the ball when she first arrived, wow has that changed - love to see it! UCLA would swipe at her all the time, and she was on the verge of feeding them elbows at times. Very impressed with her progress on ball security. In a recent game I watched her reach out and take a ball away with one hand, caught the opponent off guard, amused me. different subject: Maybe I misinterpreted this on TV, but in the 4th Q, Jelena looked like she was fed up with a ref and started walking towards them and TVO got in between and slowed her down. Talia definitely stopped Jelena from complaining. Jelena wanted to make her point that she didn't deflect the ball out of bounds, but that it actually went off a UCLA player. I think Talia knew it wasn't worth arguing, and stopped Jelena in her tracks. Is Talia already taking a leadership role?

Jelena has really improved her game. The one thing that jumps out at me is that she is getting much more assertive with the ball. I loved seeing her throw her elbows a couple of times. She is really big, not just tall, and was holding her position. There is a reason she has been in at the end of recent games.

It's interesting in the last couple games where Kennedy picked up a 4th foul Scott never put her back in. Against UCLA, KB picked up her 4th at 4:49 left in 3Q. I thought we might see her when Jelena picked up her 4th at about 1:30 to go in 4Q but Jelena stayed in. Jelena ended up playing 24 minutes to Kennedy's 16. That just happens to add up to 40.

Good point believeinthebeavs , she is asserting herself, but avoiding fouls throwing elbows, I'd think playing against her brother would have make her tough, he's a big dude. I'm guessing since arriving in the U.S. she got timid, knowing the refs called things tighter and maybe over-compensated for awhile. That basketball looks like a softball in her hands, glad to see her use her strength and "take no prisoners"

Ellie took some hard falls in both games this weekend. It was good to see her bounce back from them

She is now asserting herself, commanding the floor, putting the team on her back when necessary.

That’s a good assessment of where talia was this weekend but sometimes still there is a grey area for her where she can be thinking ahead with her game and gets stripped. But I think here assist to turnover ratio was really good today. Her ratio was 6/1 that’s great!
