That comment regarding other programs is certifiably correct . Fans get spoiled and spoiled fans think they are coaches. You see the same types of posts after wins and after losses ! The grass is not greener on the other side of the fence . I think, also, whether it is men’s or women’s programs , when you have a lot of turnover , it takes a significant amount of time and work to get kids to play together . Yes - be disappointed, but support to the best of your ability because it requires a ‘village’ to get things the way they could be ! Go Beavers…..

Significant roster turnover and roster management has become a major challenge for all programs. Gone are the days when you could look at your roster and make a reasonably accurate projection of what it will look like in future seasons. The coaches who can cohere their rosters quickly and successfully will have a major advantage.

A good quarterback leads his team not just by being a player. A good pt guard is the glue that takes the team on his shoulders if needed. Usually has the best and most unselfish attitude. Usually sees the court the best. Is a person who can create things that happen. Added bonus is a good outside shooter. But sometimes your system needs to change for the kids you have. My dad coached basketball over 55 years. He changed his system particularly on offense to suit the players he had.Go beavs Hope the ladies figure it out! They are such great human beings. Love our culture at OSU!

Some say wait til the incoming recruits get here then things will change. Well maybe. But the most recent recruiting class brought in 2 5 stars and a 4 star. Prior to that there were highly regarded corosdale, Brown, and Taylor. Any school nationwide would have loved to have any one of those recruits. One thing missing from these recruiting classes is a top tier point guard. Maybe, just maybe its not the talent.

Not all McDonald’s All-Americans or four/five-stars are created equal. Some are ready for day one, some it may take a year or two. We don’t have the luxury (due to not recruiting guards for the past three or so classes) of giving a player like Greta, who doesn’t quite appear to be ready, time to settle in. At the end of last season many were hoping this year’s starting lineup would have been Aleah, Sasha, Talia, Taya, and Taylor — a lineup that didn’t lose a game to a team that didn’t make the final four since that 2OT loss to WSU. Scott’s offense clearly works, or else Oregon State would not have been top-2 in FG efficiency in the PAC-12 for the past four/five years. We simply don’t have players adept at running in this year and it doesn’t seem like Scott is changing it. Our best bet at improving next season would be major growth from Greta, AJ, and Talia paired with one or two high-level guards from the portal, not mid-major transfers. Not saying Timea and Raegan won’t help next year, but I’m much more concerned about our guard play than our forwards/bigs.

Some pack twelve teams say to themselves if we can’t maneuver around our competition with speed we will use a triangle offense and put proven shooters who can shoot over the perimeter defense with their height. People like AJ AND ELLIE of course taya. Let them roam the perimeter and post up brown and mitrovic underneath. These girls can pass from outside over the guards also to the posts down low. This could help get the three points started maybe. Might be a defensive liability though in some cases.

It's uncommon for OSU fans to see a high level of talent underperform. We're used to seeing the reverse, and like to make fun programs with talent that underperforms, but in reality it's a pretty common scenario.
Bottom line, the coaches haven't figured out how to make this mix of athletes play at their potential - or anywhere near it. It happens, and it's really tough to see. They're either going to figure it out, or changes will happen as the way it gets resolved (likely in the form of players moving on).

Without Taylor in the post it is like we don't have anyone that can play offense with their back against the rim. i would put Ellie and Talia in the post on offense to get something going inside. Kennedy and Jelena are face up players and not comfortable in the paint. Without a post threat Rueck's offense stalls. without a post offensive threat and combined without a point guard you see what you see today. In one of the non-conference games for just a few minutes, Rueck had Kennedy moving back and forth at both "elbows", aka high post, with Jelena down low. Kennedy looked extremely comfortable playing out of that position. I noticed it at the time and thought wow that is different and it works. Haven't seen it since.

Kennedy mentioned from day 1 she prefers facing the basket, was not a back to the hoop post type. As a coach you can't suddenly expect her to be a 100% post player just because of an unfortunate injury. She hasn't shot well, but she's been playing all over and not able to gain any rhythm. Sure she should be able to post up every sho often. But, it's not her game at this stage of her career.

It is heartbreaking to see the players faces after this one. They look so down and dejected, never seen it this bad. Scott is going to need a pep talk in the locker room. You don't want to lose the team because they can still turn the corner on this season. At least I hope they can. The most important element is: HOW DO THEY RESPOND to a stinker? Individual Pride, Team Pride and Leadership will either be 'on the floor' at Gill vs. USC....or it won't. I dare say that the first 5 minutes of the USC game might be the most important 5 minutes of the season.

Barring injury, Taylor, Kennedy, Raegan, Timea, and Jelena will be a talented group of bigs. The real question for the year will be the guard/wing situation. We would definitely expect improvement from our current 3 freshman, but the two freshman guards/wings next season likely won't be an immediate answer, so bringing in a top notch transfer could make next year special. You know there will be numerous players available. The question will be can the Beavs land them?
