Great observations from everyone on this thread. I'll add a couple other observations:
1. Greta finally broke loose and that was refreshing to see. Defensively, not sure why Greta continuously got picked off on the top of key screen instead of fighting over the screen. Greta ended up guarding their 5, which worked out sometimes, but against a PAC-12 center, that isn't going to work. 2. Mannen actually did a fine job at point. She ran the offense, which we needed at the time she came in. TvO had too many 1-on-5 moments and resulted in either a turnover or bad shot. TvO is a stud and needs to continue improving her decision making as our point guard 3. Coaches need to get a better defensive plan for the 5-out teams (think DePaul or CBU). We went far too long in the 1st half w/o making defensive adjustments 4. There should be emphasis on defense in the 1st half, rather than waiting until Q3 (which is what I've observed in these initial 3 games). Again, against a quality PAC-12 opponent, it won't be easy to recover if we give up easy buckets in the first half
All in all, while at times the game was clearly a work in progress, I like this team and the depth of the team. I wish Tea had been available as I believe Tea would have helped out a great deal defensively on their point guard. Looking forward to our Saturday game, and hoping we come out with a mindset of crushing the opposition.

Sorry but I found the “finally” kinda amusing.

Well, it was the 2nd half of her second game, so Finally! You could see the potential from Greta's first game, and, knew Greta was going to "break out" at some point. It was nice to see her not hesitate to shoot.

I would much rather have had Tea backing up Talia. 6 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and 0 turnovers in 14 minutes. I think Mannen performed remarkably well as the back up point guard last night.

Agreed. She is reliable and an accurate shooter. She has stepped up her game and earned her minutes.

For anyone interested, here is a link to some analysis I did of a video replay of the first half. It only looks at the defense in all cases where Cal Baptist scored , plus cases where they were left open for shots that missed. The primary issue I saw were: #1 Too many Beavers helping out (usually around the basket) and not trusting others to do their job, #2 failed switches (poor communication). These are all fix-able.

Link to video of 1st half of CBU game. Can't be played until Google Drive "processes" it. But should be downloadable. (Big file) Link to first half of CBU

I haven't had a chance to see your analysis yet Steve, but that tracks with what I saw in real time. A lot of over help, and then some cases or switching when it wasn't necessary or just botching a switch. I look forward to seeing what you put together. Thank you for the effort.

WOW. After reading your 1st half defensive malpractice report, I had a flashback to that 1st half defensive nap. There was just mass confusion amongst the OSU defenders, and clearly poor communication. And all can be fixed with better communication and more time on the court with each other. I saw Greta, who appears to be a fine on ball defender, not fight over screens and instead end up guarding the CB center after she switched at the high post with either Taylor or Kennedy. Last year, Aleah did an excellent job of recognizing an oncoming screen and fighting over (defeating) the screen. Our guards/wings need to get better in this area, and their teammates need to shout out when the player they are checking (guarding) is coming up to set a screen. All of this can be fixed.

Not only that, she played the final 7 minutes of the 3rd qtr, when she came in the score was 47-49 by the end of the qtr it was 67-51.

Rueck must have thought that Noelle was his best option at the point. The fact that she played 14 minutes he must have liked some of what he saw. Rueck is well know for pulling players when they screw up.
