I thought Kennedy was the best player on the Beavers tonight, the key to the 3rd Q turnaround. I thought it rotated... TO in the 1st half, then "Kamp" in the 3rd on offense, KB in allowing the m2m to exert pressure in the 3rd. Corosdale deserves kudos as well. Taya had 12 boards, no Turnovers....played 30 minutes. Many times when the offense (or a Beaver player) got a bit 'stuck', especially if Talia wasn't in there, the ball goes to the veteran for the reset. It's clear why coach has (for years now) had her on the floor for big minutes.

There is a home football game later on Saturday evening. The university closes off all parking on campus for anything other than football parking permit holders and tailgaters. We usually receive an e-mail prior to the event in case we need to make different arrangements. We were told by the announcer during a time out in the game tonight. It was not well received. On a basketball note, one of the biggest reasons, IMO, that we took over the second half was that CBU went cold from 3-pt range.

They need to do us a favor and not schedule home basketball games on days when there are football games. They screwed up and had to disappoint someone and of course money dictates they disappoint WBB fans. I’m pissed.

Not real happy with the way that OSU reminded us about our parking passes. That lacked class. I also noted that Scott Barnes was in attendance. I hope he took notice of the boo's. For those of that travel an hour to see the team, it would be nice if OSU would open up the fairgrounds shuttle early for those of us who support women's basketball and donate to Our Beaver Nation through our parking passes. Go Beavs (all Beavs)! A "neighboring" fan randomly wandered over to chat. I missed the announcement but then heard the boos. What was said? Just that football parking would be in effect all day Saturday, and our passes won't be honored. I guess I understand that. People pay through the nose for football parking in the Reser lot, and they don't want basketball ticket holders, who also have football tickets, leaving their cars in a space reserved for someone else. Nothing was said, however, about where we could park, or any alternate arrangements, like shuttles from the fairgrounds. Also, this is the first notification I've heard of. Somebody who couldn't attend tonight's game, but drives down Saturday not knowing this, is going to be really ticked off.

Agreed. OSU Athletic Department dropped the ball on this one.

I sure hope the team learned some lessons tonight. CB was tough, as advertised. The 3’s were dropping like crazy during the warmups when they were set-shots; unfortunately we gave them abundant set-shots during the game. They played the kind of offense Scott Rueck wants to run… with rapid ball movement and excellent 3 point shooting and nearly beat us with it. The difference is that they have veteran players who are all well- versed in their system, one of whom is a very talented point guard. Talia will be great, but she is still learning to run our offense. Let’s hope the team comes up to speed and learns how to defend the 3 point line against teams like this. Frankly, I don’t expect Michigan or Norte Dame to be as good with team play running their systems and I doubt their point guards are anywhere near as good as CB’s (athletically likely better, but with that much skill in running their system?… I doubt it). I was impressed with Kennedy (nearly unstoppable when she gets the ball cleanly down low), Greta and Emily. Talia did well and should have played 40 minutes. To me, Mannen holding her own was good for Mannen, but we needed more than that; she was not able to effectively run the offense (we missed Tea).

My takes-
Taya- Great rebounding, solid passing and defense. If we keep getting this from her we really don't need loads of scoring and we will be a good team.
Mamom- (no one told me this was misspelling Mannen's name day, but I catch on quick) No mistakes, no panicking when they pressed her, and hitting the open shot. She's really into proving what an idiot I am for underestimating her.
Talia- One assist and four TO's. She's a great player but the team needs her to be a great PG.
Taylor- I fear this game may crush her dreams of becoming a guard....at least I hope so.
The Mack- She's going to do whatever the team needs for her to do.
KB- CBU threw all sorts of offenses at the Beav's and KB just went with the flow and figured it out.
Mit- Had a rough day.
AJ- Wasn't hitting in the shoot arounds and had in general had a rough game also.
Greta- Can see more and more what she can bring to the team. And it's going to be really good.
Team- First half they seemed to think they were supposed to take turnsies with rebounds. Half time the couch pointed out that was wrong and they turned the game around. Keep shooting FT's like that and it's going to become a hack a Beav to win the game. It was good for the team (including the coaches) to play a team using a five out offense so they could figure out what to do.

But, really the hoops game will be over by 2pm. That's 5½ hours before the football game. Seems pretty simple to send football parking folks an email saying those lots will be open at 2:30 or 3pm. I tailgate, but doubleheaders are rare and 4+ hours of pregame fun is plenty. Seems very short sighted and unnecessarily divisive. Especially since many WBB ticket holders are seniors and their parking is very important to them and their access to Gill. Hmmmmm

Hmmmmm What you said in bold. How many would that affect? Hopefully they hear about it. Someone just does not want to mess with something that has a fairly simple solution. It will affect attendance for the older fans. I mean a 5-1/2 cushion? If it is not televised move it up another 1/2 hour or hour.

Some of the entry passes to Kennedy and Jones were not very well placed and thus required very athletic adjustments on the part of both Kennedy and Taylor. Their body positioning, while continuing to block out the respective defender, was outstanding . In every case, they were able to also reach and 'one hand' the ball to establish control and keep running the play.. Also something very similar in rebounding situations - great quickness , timing and eye - hand coordination. They were both so smooth in their offensive and defensive roles ( rebounding and shooting ), that it almost looked like it was practice instead of a live game. The only thing that bothered me was the open three - balls that CBU was getting , as well as the ease with which they were able to penetrate with lay in's. This latter point was addressed much better in the third quarter forward ! The length and athleticism is going to serve us well this season ... if we can stay out of foul trouble with our bigs ! Go Beavers

Two things I'm noticing about Talia - 1) if she makes some kind of error on offense she works hard to disrupt the next play while on defense (steal, tip the pass, etc). 2) she projects with her body that she's going to drive to the rim with her head and shoulders down, almost like she's going to tackle someone.
Not sure if either or both of these things are real or my imagination. I'm glad she chose OSU.
GO BEAVS.
p.s. the parking decision is idiotic and shows some serious lack of awareness.

Just a reminder, for folks that are interested, OSU does a good job of providing stats, click on Box Score at : osubeavers.com/sports/womens-basketball/scheduleNote the attendance: 3754, good for mid-week IMO, very curious to see how the parking joke affects what should be good numbers on Sat.

It would be a nice gesture for OSU to open up the garage only for the WBB game.

Really good game to play in preseason - and survive
They are small relative to OSU, but pretty typical of a first-round NCAA tourney team’s size. Our size didn’t help much in their perimeter ball movement and getting open looks. You can hang with larger teams trading 3s for 2s if you can hit them consistently enough, which they generally did. Their PG is the type of player that Rueck never seems to recruit - he just seems to loath giving up any significant size disadvantage even with a quickness trade off. Kind of a bummer to me because they are so fun to watch, but I get the thinking - imagine if they man-defense and we spread the floor and have Talia or Greta take a 5’4” player inside - it would be even worse situation than feeding our posts against their bigs because you don’t even have the entry pass to execute.
Love Cal-Baptist’ brand of basketball though - I wish them well. Kudos for them to schedule teams like Stanford and OSU and still expect to win.
