First I sill think we have well above average arms and should be capable of winning against anyone. However it is pretty clear this team only has about 4 guys that should be allowed to swing. So, the next questions are we trying to develop players or trying to win games. If we want to win games you have to something with the dead bats. Bunting or hit and running. Note we were nailed by bunting by the damn Ducks!

Note we were nailed by bunting by the damn Ducks! Which 4? That’s the problem. Ober and Preston killed it early and then went on a dry spell. Casey was doing pretty well early, too. Then Forrester stepped up and we thought we had a savior, but he did little against the Ducks. Melton, too. “Player of the week” appears to be the kiss of death around here. And Armstrong, who has been our one consistent batter, couldn’t deliver yesterday with runners in scoring position at least once. But I agree that we have to look to mix it up. Sure wish Kwan was a batting coach. We need that sort of mindset.

Can you imagine the Scouting Reports on our Hitters. First Pitch throw one right down the Middle. Second, do it again. Next, any form of a breaking ball, anywhere. Repeat, repeat, repeat..... The only 3 that might do damage are Ober, Melton and Donkey. With those 3 you might just throw breaking balls.

I do not think that MC utilizes the small ball option enough. I get the fact that you have to have faith in your guy at the plate to put the ball in play to get that single to score 1 or double to score 2. Hell, even the sac fly or fielder's choice to move them. What is killing the Beavs is the strike outs looking in those situations and the taking 2 strikes before you get the bat off your shoulder. You also have to be honest with them and say I need you to lay down a bunt to move these guys because you are in a slump at the plate. I have to believe that batting practice will show the coaches who is coming out of a slump and making better contact during the week. Yes, Pac12 pitchers are probably a lot harder to hit than a coach/bullpen pitcher throwing bp. Anyway, that is my rant. Just got registered and I have truly enjoyed this forum. Go Beavs.

Go Beavs. and we have a couple of players that teams are starting to pitch around others to get to, even if it means loading the bases, because they both hit a lot of routine ground balls and are not fleet of foot, so have become double play machines. Kills any big inning potential - bunting is definitely called for there.

You can't move runners along with a bunt unless you get the leadoff runner on base. Something we do not do very often. A sac bunt with one out is a wasted at-bat.
And at some point you must be able to get runners home from third without bunting them in. If you can't do that, the corner infielders just cheat in and take away the bunt.

Any Beaver baseball fans who want to scout future opponents, might want to stream Pacific vs Stanford on the Pac 12 Network.
Its pretty cool,I the Stanford video crew have a camera in CF, so its easier to see what pitchers are throwing and their location.
For future viewing for OSU Baseball:
We will be on ESPN 3 April 23-25
& on the Pac12 Network from April 30- May 2.
Take care gentlemen.
