Brutal - did not see that coming. She's a unique talent and brought a critical dimension to the team on both ends of the floor.

All of a sudden the pride of Seaside, Maddie Utti is looking pretty good. Would be a nice wing player, but Aleah returning would be a key. I'm sure there will be others pop up in the transfer portal that would be nice fits for the Beavs. Looks like Ellie Mack may have the lead right now for starting 3 spot.
I knew this off season would be really difficult to predict for all teams, and I also Knew Sasha really missed her Dad, but I thought she would stick it out. Now, how many others may decide not to return? Besides the grad transfers, I wonder what is going on in Savannah's mind?

So much for any hope of Pac-12 championships and any NCAA final fours in the near or even forseeable future. Yes, I believe the loss is that catastrophic. Pac-12 opponents (well certainly many of their fans anyway) are secretly happy about this. Can't say I ever shed a tear when the Ukies lost a good player by transfering out.

Losing Goforth is a huge deal and Jaz is a big deal. Jaz brought experience and depth to the team. Goforth has a huge upside that will now not be reached at Oregon State. And they both brought speed/quickness to a program that isn't exactly loaded in that respect. Very bad news.

Catastrophic might be a bit much, but nonetheless a huge loss. She showed a lot of promise this season and once she cleaned up her three point shooting and turnovers, she was going to be really special. Her defensive lockdown skills will be especially missed. Was really looking forward to multiple years of a Talia, Greta, and Sasha backcourt. If Greta can hit threes at 40% and have a solid A/TO ratio, she could have as much of an impact as Sasha would have had next season. Was looking forward to seeing Sasha at the three, but unfortunately we'll probably see Mack and Corosdale playing some on the perimeter next season. Would love for a big time transfer to come out on the market.

1+ 0 = 1 There’s no compounding the loss here. We’re two guards down, end of story. Sasha obviously has more upside than Jasmine, so I’m not sure what you’re getting at here. she’s easily replaced.

Sasha will be missed greatly....she was our quickest and best defender especially at the top of our zone and in our half-court press. Elite defenders like Sasha are rare gets and couple that with her good offensive skills this is a big loss. Greta can replace Sasha's good offense and perhaps be even better, but Sasha's defensive skills will most likely be irreplaceable. Sasha started from the get-go this year and got more minutes than anyone except Aleah so I don't think she had any issues with the team or coach. I think as others have mentioned she was homesick and just wants to play somewhere nearer to her home within driving distance for her Dad and family to come watch her play, and where she can drive home to on the weekends during the off-season. I don't blame her at all for wanting these simple pleasures in life and wish her the very best going forward. I can think of 2 other great players who did the exact same thing during or after their freshman seasons....Destiny was the Freshman National Player of the Year at Maryland before transfering back to the west coast nearer to her home and family, and Elena Delle Donne (the #2 overall pick in the 2013 WNBA Draft and 2-time WNBA MVP) shocked coach Geno and left UConn before she even played her 1st game as a freshman and transfered to lowly Delaware which was just 15 miles from her home in Wilmington.

The loss of Sasha is a big deal. After Aleah I would rate her the 2nd most valuable player on this year's team.... To add to her loss is the very real possibility that her game will elevate considerably in the next year or two. When she learns better ball control on her slash to the basket she will become an awesome offensive threat. We already know that she is a premiere defensive player. I'm one of those who believe she has the goods to be one of the OSU greats if she stayed 4 years. Someone is going to get one helluva transfer when she make up her mind. (Don't count Baylor out - Mulkey is a very persuasive recruiter..)
Shifting gears: Savannah remains a very good prospect, and I truly hope she sticks with the program - but she needs a major lift in her offensive skills. If they arrive I believe she will be an impact player for the Beavs.
Eliie Mack is a solid player, but she'd better find her 3 before next season or her contributions to the team will stay in the average range. Taya has been in the program long enough to know the range of her abilities. She's solid, she's dependable and she knows her role. I do not see her elevating beyond the status of good role player on this team. So she and Ellie are in a similar category, so to speak.
A "system" program like Rueck runs so well requires at least one player close to the "super-star" category (like Weise or Gulich) for it to be a top 3 program. Sasha had the makings of that kind of player - but it was not a sure thing.
In a somewhat ironic twist, if Sasha's departure is not offset by an impressive transfer coming in, one of the major keys to OSU's success next year will be the continued improvement of Jelena Mitrovic....Go figure.... GO BEAVS

For goodness sake, everyone take a deep breath, losing Sasha is a big deal but with Kennedy back and Greta coming in, a solid transfer and the meteoritic rise of Talia I believe we'll be fine; Remember, Timea, Raegan & Adlee are in the bullpen, we are loaded. Can't wait to see Savannah take advantage! There is nothing Coach, staff and teammates could have done, my goodness she started every game as a freshman and received tons of media attention from OSU and the Pac-12, she should reconsider her decision, experience a packed Gill Coliseum, its truly a magical place.

Clearly this freedom to basically transfer at will provides players with the freedom that we would probably all like to have.
The freedom to make our own choices however many times does not lead to the outcome the chooser desires.
I live in Spokane Washington now after almost all of my life (60+) years spent in Portland.
I now follow Gonzaga basketball closely. Several years ago Kelly Olynk, a 7 foot freshman center who seriously considering transferring after his freshman season. Instead he chose to remain a Gonzaga, take a reshirt year, and build up his body and improve his skills. The ultimate result was (a) a first round NBA draft selection and (b) a long and very very lucrative career in the NBA (neither which would have happened otherwise).
I have no inside information on why Sahsa choose to transfer, but it is clear that there is more and more "poaching" of players going on by schools that likely have no real concern for the player's ultimate welfare. In my view, Sahsa is likely giving up a "Stanford" quality of basketball experience and learning, in exchange for some "grass is greener" fantasy laid out by some coach and program that is far inferior to what OSU offers these young women.
Unfortunately OSU players are likely targets for these "ambulance chaser" types, because Scott selects such high quality coachable individuals.

A second comment is that the freedom to change and move on if this is the way it is going to be for the players, should also be the same way for the school. The idea that the school should have to guarantee a scholarship for the four years even if the player is (a)injured (b)is a terrible player or (c) a myriad of other reasons seems very one-sided.

Well, anyone see this horrrrrrrrible news coming? How many McDonald's All Americans (who started on the team all year as well) leave a good team with a big upside? This is nothing short of a major disaster. OSU will NOT come anywhere even close to making up for this loss by going to the transfer portal. SMH SMH SMH. What on earth is SMH supposed to mean?
