Can we drop the "Patricia Morris would have helped" narrative? In 5 games with TCU she's played 24 minutes, averaged 2.2 ppg and 1.4 rebounds per game. In her 24 minutes she's committed 12 personal fouls and 7 turnovers. To her credit she is shooting well in her 4 plus minutes a game and has 3 blocks.
Other than post depth, how do those stats objectively help us win PAC-12 games? They don't. With Jelena cleared to play, there was simply not going to be minutes behind her and Taylor. Jelena is a player with a higher floor and a much higher ceiling than PM in my opinion.
It's fair to lament the loss of Slocum, but Patricia Morris was not going to be a significant contributor moving forward and was another "miss" on the 2018 recruiting class. Great person, great teammate and represented the University well. Just wasn't going to significantly help this team once Jelena was healthy and able to play.

Totally agree, this team has more bigs than they with the current roster. I have no idea how another one could help. This team needs better ball handlers, and the entire team needs to be more physical. The lack of physicality really kills our rebounding.

Why didn’t Patricia Morris have to sit out a year! Immediately eligible!

Why didn’t Patricia Morris have to sit out a year! Immediately eligible! Because of the pandemic, the NCAA was very liberal in granting waivers.

I'm really intrigued by what Talia does for this team. I don't see her as a panacea for what ills us, but she does appear to be a guard that doesn't mind defenders getting physical with her. Unfortunately, she doesn't appear to be a defender that returns that kind of physicality. Still, having a player that can score when getting mugged is something we've rarely had, and sorely needed on this team.

Geez....some serious negativity flowing here. Let's remember, these kids haven't played in 29 days, and, had to play just their 7th game at Arizona. We struggled last year vs Arizona with last year's team, and pulled it out at the very end because of a 4-year stud named Mik.
If you look at our line-up, we don't have any continuity...not enough time with each other in real game situations.
The positives were Savannah Samuel was given lots of minutes (way to go Scott Rueck for recognizing this budding talent). Taylor played solid, and especially defensively.
The disappointments that continue are the transfers. Not sure we should be bringing in transfers unless they have 3+ years to give. Too disruptive.
I think it is time to start playing for next year, giving the majority of minutes to the kids that are the future (GoForth, Samuels, Mitrovic, T VanO). Of course, Taylor, Aleah, and Taya too.
Let's give the kids another weekend of games to get their game legs underneath them. Recognize, this team hasn't had much time on the court.
Watching Scott on the sidelines, he is very calm. I think he recognizes this season is a bust for a number of reasons, so he is going to use this season to build for next year when we get Kennedy back. Having Kennedy back will be supremely helpful to this team.

A note of caution on "lotrader's above comment.
There was a lot of talk about how much different having Taya back would be. That assumed she would be as good or better than before her injury. At this point, she seems to be a shadow of her former self
Hopefully this will not be the case with Kennedy Brown, but remember Kennedy's injury was significantly more serious than Taya's.

I’d push back on Kennedy’s injury being more severe than Taya’s. A torn ACL is a pretty common injury for a basketball player, with a really high percentage of time with a return to the pre-injury level of play. Plus by the start of next season she will be 19 months post injury. However, a torn hamstring requiring surgery is not a common hoops injury. And anything effecting the muscle could have a long recovery time for quickness and explosion.

Thanks for that medical information. I was not aware of what you shared. Hopefullly you are spot on with your comments. I’d push back on Kennedy’s injury being more severe than Taya’s. And a 2nd note of caution about KB....She was solid defensively and a good rebounder and we could certainly use alot more of that!....However despite being 6'6"tall she likes to play away from the basket on offense and shoot the 3.....but unfortunately she is a poor shooter....37% FG, and only 25% 3pt, and only 58% FT's...I would like to see her concentrate more on those 8-12 ft jumpers closer to the hoop (like Marie did when she was here)....(and Like Maurice Lucas used to do for the Blazers)....KB @ 6'6" could shoot that shot over anyone and get much better results than those 15-25 ft jumpers she was shooting last year!.....but I know this won't happen and its just educated wishful thinking on my part!

- Let's hope TVO can provide some ball handling (and defending quick opposing guards, which has been our Achille's heel for a while), but that might be much to ask of a true frosh. - I was impressed with AZ, they have arrived IMO, and will be a force in the Pac-12 given their coach and talent. - Taylor was not able to seal her defender and present herself for an entry pass for very long, the passing lanes into her were clogged, and we were unable to go over the top to her (and we haven't been great at entry passes for a while now anyway) - Savannah, as others have noted, was a bright spot, but FTs have got to improve - Sasha looked under the weather, mentally and physically - Aleah has been trying to (forced to?) do too much, has taken her out of her game, though her consistency hasn't been there for a while now. AZ had a good game plan of hedging out on her with a double once she passed midcourt, and we didn't make them pay for it - lack of rebounding is killing us - gave AZ lots of second looks, didn't have many ourselves. Mik was amazing, the rest of the team a bit pedestrian. Positioning not great, get muscled out of the way, and not sure the whole team is crashing the boards - if ever there was a year when SR needed an overseas trip or a feast of preseason cupcakes, this was it. I don't know if he has figured out who brings what among the newcomers..... - SR chatting with the guard bringing the ball up re: play call for a few seconds every play is fewer seconds to actually run the play, but apparently the tradeoff is necessary or acceptable - Jazz has still not got it all figured out on the court, and this Covid season not helping. - Like some here I think the team philosophy needs a bit of a revamp - our finesse approach is not working well with the physicality many other teams are bringing......several TOs yesterday with players trying to pass thru defenders outstretched arms instead of splitting the defenders. - our BLOBs (baseline inbounds) weren't special surprisingly, or AZ had figured out how to counter - Was heartened by Mack hitting a couple outside shots, along with Taya driving, and Savannah's aggressive play - This season is starting to look like one we need to simply weather, and hope a normal season will make for SR's coaching approach to bear fruit, but I do note a lot of Pac-12 teams starting to emerge, so we will have a bit of a climb back into the upper echelons of the Pac-12.... Let's just stay healthy, safe, and together, and look forward to brighter days ahead (where cutouts are replaced by real cheering people again).
Go Beavers!

Agree....from observing SR's expressions on the sidelines....I'm pretty sure that the whole coaching staff is building for next year and have pretty much written this year off! That doesn't mean that they still want to win games! But I truly feel that they know that this year is a 9th to 11th place finish in the Pac-12.

Taya has not lived up to the expectations IMO. She showed a lot of promise as a freshman (she played extremely well with Marie), and then despite her sophomore shooting woes, she was a great facilitator and rebounder for us that year.
I think she is a fantastic complementary piece (if you have three guards who can score and a really good five), but we need more from her. I also don’t think she and Ellie play great together because they’re somewhat similar - both stretch 4’s.
She doesn’t seem quite as mobile as her freshman year, maybe due to injury:
I miss all those easy layups Katie and Marie used to get.
