I don't know all the particulars of the Ionescu recruitment...not many people outside of the coaching staff do....it has a lot of layers. There are lots of rumors ive heard from people I trust. It could be that she was given the keys to the car carte Blanche by uo,which osu wouldn't do,or she wanted to attend school with her brother(walk-on in MBB) Another factor is the hiring of Campbell, and the impact it had on her recruitment. I spoke to an osu Wbb coach at a baseball game in late April of her senior year and he told me he had no idea what her plans were. Remember...she was quoted as just wanting to show up at her college of choice. Weird recruitment down to uo,osu,Stanford, and Cal... Most recent story I read said that the last two on her list were UW and UO. I think playing time and a chance to be "the #1 player" on the team were the most important to her. Freshman playing tiem was pretty important as well.

Maybe she wanted to make her mark on a program instead of being just a very good player in her first year...I don't know. I know osu was in on her for a very long time. The Campbell piece of the equation is the wild card...I won't discuss what I have heard.

What I recall about Ionescu's recruitment is that UO, OSU and Cal were the final 3. Then OSU and Cal were dropped and UW was a finalist out of nowhere. I think that was strictly because of the possibility of Sopak being hired as an assistant at UW. That didn't come to pass, so UW probably didn't really stand a chance.

green85 is absolutely correct! I know she had a "shoot-around" with a couple of OSU players (SW, ?) but never was really interested. I know all about the Campbell piece of the puzzle!

I don't know anything specific about how Campbell fits in the puzzle. I do know he was a big deal in recruiting for OSU before he "turned traitor" and joined the UO staff. I heard a comment from Graves on the radio the other night about how Campbell was both an asset recruiting AND a good bench coach for the Ducks. I noticed that he seems to have something to say in the huddle pretty regularly. I know it was a hot topic on this board when he left ... and especially where he ended up. I am not sure he will be an assistant much longer ... maybe 1 or 2 years after this (or maybe gone after this year if UO makes a big time run in the NCAA Tourney). For Sabrina Ionescu ... Oregon got very lucky in the timing of the opening on the roster and how SI saw her chance to start right away.

I would love to hear some of the Campbell situation. I’d love to know more details.

I would love to hear some of the Campbell situation. I’d love to know more details. It's all conjecture...I won't tell what I have heard from very good sources. Watch when Scott and Campbell shake hands after games...it looked to be icy to me. I will leave it at that...

1) Campbell was OSU's recruiting coord. and then was hired away by Graves when Graves went to Oregon.
2) Oregon had a huge recruiting year and OSU tanked in recruiting. Most of those players had been recruited for OSU by Campbell.
3) SR is now the recruiting coord. for OSU. High valued recruits are very familiar with SR nowdays.
4) I've twice heard/seen basketball commentators say there is bad blood between the two programs. Although I've never heard either side say anything other than the occasional snide shots by Graves at Rueck.

I get that Rueck would be pissed about Campbell. And in turn not having warm and fuzzy about Graves stealing Campbell. As for snide remarks about Rueck from Graves I admit ignorance of specifics (I might do a quick internet search for stuff on this).

You probably won't find much other than those that can be interpreted by bias as such. It's not like it's anything new for a coach new to a conference to go after the best staff possible. If MC was as good as recruiter as mentioned then Graves did his job. Get the best staff possible. As for players being recruited "for OSU". They are fair game until signed. Again nothing new with players following coaches, including lead recruiters.

It wasn't completely about about losing an assistant to your rivals for allegedly the same pay...

It wasn't completely about about losing an assistant to your rivals for allegedly the same pay... But of course it all conjecture ("an opinion or conclusion formed on the basis of incomplete information")... from very good sources. Sho, what happens here on an hourly basis? br]Any of then MC or SR? Their wives? In the end, that's exactly what it boils down to, and happens every season somewhere. Old, old news. What's the thread again?
