"When Jacoby Ellsbury arrived in 2003 he was the best player on the baseball team as a freshman"
Had to come back to this as for a guy who spends more time with piddling posts to correct others for the even simplest of mistakes... most of the time trivial... this statement just shows the need to have to been seen as the smartest guy on the board overrides common sense.
JE use to attend camps I ran and worked as a young player and he was VERY good as a Freshman at OSU, but the 2003 team was very good and the only statistical categories JE lead the team in was Runs, SBA/SB and FA (but only by .001 on a third less chances).
Calderon lead in BA (.353 to JE's 4th best .330)... Seth lead in ABs and hits (224/78 to JE's 3rd/4th best 206/68)... etc. JE was tied for 5th in 2B, 2nd in 3B, 2nd in HR, 4th in RBI, 4th in SLG%. But, Pietsch was the offensive stud/best player... 53 GS (1st)... BA .348 (3rd)... 54 runs (2nd)... 78 hits (1st)... 11 2B (4th)... 4 3B (1st)... 12 HR (1st)... 40 RBI (3rd)... .594 SLG (1st)... 6-9 SB (2nd).
Some could even argue that Aaron Matthews was overall better offensively in 2004, playing in all 53 games and leading JE in many categories... over double the extra base hits and RBIs and hitting .326 in 30 more ABs to JE's .352. But, really doesn't matter to the point of JE being the best players as soon as he began his frosh year.
Also Lonzo had more hype, but he wasn't the automatic best player on that UCLA team... not even the best Frosh. Like I said, the most hype, drafted higher, better NBA career... BUT TJ Leaf performed better than Lonzo and he too was a 1st rounder/#18.
Again... arguable... but Zion again way more hype and flash with his dunks, BUT RJ Barrett was rated #1 in HS by overall ratings... he had basically the same stats as Zion, but played in all 38 games vs Zions 33. And, yet again Zion was not automatically the best player when he walked onto the Duke campus. Heck, the RSCI had him ranked as the 3rd best frosh on that roster coming in behind Barrett and Reddish.
So your "tons" of examples are so accurate... But, then again so is your take. As said, these people all PLAYED to actually be evaluated as being the best on a team. But, then again using your logic maybe Tinkle really has something in Li... our best player is actually wiping up spills and sweat.

Her is the exact statement, from the OP: "Well if we want to get dreamy eyed. I've heard from someone who knows about their practice that their best player is AA (sigh). And yes, that's with her never playing in a D1 game, but in my dreams I can do what I want and so there."Clearly stating he's been told the AA, who has yet to play a game, was the best player on the team. Something that can probably never be proven or disproven, since she might not ever play. It was never said that someone who isn't even at OSU was the best player on the team. Keep moving those goalposts, old man. And sorry, Jacoby hit .330 as a freshman, led the team in runs and steals and outfield chances, was second in home runs, third in RBIs and played one of the most difficult defensive positions on the field. But you're right, he wasn't as good as Seth Pietsch, Tony Calderon or Chris Biles. Had you even watched a game at Goss, or talked to Pat Casey at that time, you'd have heard it straight from the coach's mouth. Talk about LOL. I'll call you on your BS again... I did talk to PC during that era... I had coaching connection and AAA legion teams in tourneys where certain recruits were playing. Opinions were often sought from HS/Legion coaches, tourney officials, umpires. It was easier for college coaches to catch summer games, but very tough during a college season to scout HS players. BUT... I'll tell you a fact... PC never went around stating who his best player was! EVER. He praised players to the hilt... but, he rarely compared players on current rosters. He would compare current to past... as in "best catcher I've had"... BUT never have I heard him in person or seen the written word where he stated a player on a team was the BEST on that team.

Would be nice to retire this thread by having the administrator lock it like they do on other boards. We aren't addressing the topic and posters are taking shots at each other.
As for Aquino's talent, observers last season stated clearly that they believed that she would have helped the team as a frosh with her length and skill set. However, I never heard anyone connected to the program make the claim that she would be the best player on the team. She didn't have dominant stats at Ribet Academy as a senior, but certainly has the potential to make a positive difference for the Beavs on the playing court if cleared to compete at some point in the future.

True in and of itself... even your post.
Yet... calling BS isn't posters taking shots at each other. At least not like I've seen in other posts.
As, any mention of AA really isn't on topic concerning game 2 of the CW.
But, what thread here ever stays on topic?
AA is very intriguing. But, after basically two years not playing, not exactly being a dominate force in HS/Prep school, why is she even a topic?
Guards and wings. Give us a solid replacement for Mik. Get Taya healthy and a young 5* PG.

Jacoby was hitting about .420 his sophomore year when he suffered a concussion running into the fence in a Friday night game against Stanford at Goss. He missed about a week, wasn't the same player that year for the balance of the season and his numbers plummeted. That's the only reason AM had a higher average and better offensive stats. But if you were actually there, you'd have known.
this statement just shows the need to have to been seen as the smartest guy on the board overrides common sense.
Pretty funny, coming from you.
