Yeah, I am optimistic about playoff ball - surprises instead of a target on our backs !

I'm super positive about our program - given where it was just a few years back and how competitive the conference is. We have young talent and more on the way. I'll be at two games in Feb with my daughters. My "concern" (not really that, I suppose more of an objective view) is that we are great, just not great enough to beat the elite teams. We've beaten a lot of ranked teams over the past few years, but not many in the top 10. I know, I know, that's not really something to complain about and I'm not really complaining - just thinking about what to expect for the rest of the year. I know this has been a brutal stretch - but the tournament will be as well.

We are so flustered on offense. So much picking up the dribble in a bad area. Then either a horrible shot or bad pass. Credit to the Duck D but I thought we were better than this. trap dribbles are part of the game these days. Seems many coaches are afraid to demand their players execute proper fundamentals. Might hurt their feelings.

I just saw that the Ducks only have eight players active . So whomever mentioned hustle in a post above nailed it. With eight players ya have to make up for it somehow. I thought the Beavers might take this one.

I thought the Beavers might take this one. 10 were active but backup center Lydia Giomi was only to be used if needed, and Morgan Yaeger had been dealing with injury and both Civil War games were her first time dressing this month. She would not have played regardless. Giomi likely would have been in when Ruthy went out had she not been emergency-only. The only player besides Sedona and Nyara not in uniform was Lucy Cochrane.

The Duck defense has really improved and it gave the Beav's a hard time. But I'd say the difference in the 2nd half was simply rebounding. The Frosh just stopped boxing out Ruth and Sab and they got too many extra chances. Aleah going to back up seems to be getting her mojo again.
I admit that I don't have a good reason for it but I'm hopeful after this game. Mik is back, Aleah is doing better, and I think when Kat gets her shot back the Beav's will be winning these games. But we will have to wait to see.

Hugely true. Look at their bigs compared to ours. Sabally plays like a guard. Our bigs are afraid to dribble, and non factors on the perimeter I will give you their big vs our big, but not the rest. We had the same game challenges against Stanford and they simply do not have the same talent as OSU, with the exception of one player. Hustle is the problem. Wait... what? Furd has less talent than OSU? Except for ONE player? Is that how I read that or did I get it wrong? Furd has the best young talent in the Pac12. The lost their best player, most likely would have been the Frosh POY, vs OSU and still won. And, Belibi, another top Frosh didn't even play due to an ankle. They have two other key players that have been out most or all of season... a starting center, Dodson, and a key player in Carrington. With this class and next years ( two 5* and #1 player again, and highly graded 3*) they are deep with talent with a great mixture of vets... returning up to (11). Plus one or both of the Srs could petition for an extra year if they do not return this season. OSU has a bad Zona trip... they are better than both those teams talent wise , but the road is always iffy in the Pac12. BUT, ucks and Furd are the real deal in talent, size, athleticism. I have not heard what the final call on the Furd/Jone's injury, but she is a STUD and losing her was a huge deal... physically and emotionally to that team.

What irritates me about both games: - One of our top-2 have a great game in one and didn’t show up in the other. Needed great efforts from both players to win against UO. - We had one awful quarter in both games, and hung even for the other three in both games. Can’t do that against the ducks. Against any Top 10/tourney team OR most of the top tier Pac12 teams on the road. Kinda lucky to have pulled out the Zona game or this team is 3-5.

Hugely true. Look at their bigs compared to ours. Sabally plays like a guard. Our bigs are afraid to dribble, and non factors on the perimeter Sabally is a unicorn. At 6'4", Sabally can cover all 5 positions and handle the ball. Just a shame that OSU was Sabally's second choice. Imagine Sabally in OSU's lineup. She is the difference maker. Hebard is a quality and rugged athlete. Sabrina relies on her immense skill, but appears to have gotten noticeably stronger. I don't think that there is a distinct athletic advantage for Oregon against OSU. However, Sabally can be switched onto Pivec when Pivec is scoring on Ionescu or can wreak havoc in a zone with her length. Sabally helps keep Ionescu and Hebard out of more severe foul trouble.

Credit the team defense for limiting both Sabally and Ionescu to 6/17 shooting from the field.
Sabally and Hebard are a difficult pair to keep off the offensive glass. That was a big part of Oregon's success today. Sabally seems to have decided to assert herself more during the past 5 games on the glass. When Sabally's effort matches her length and talent, double-doubles will come with increased frequency.
I thought that Taylor Jones felt the brunt of Hebard's star treatment today. She will learn what Hebard does to stop short of fouling. Hebard knows what you can get away with in the paint and when you have to back off a bit. There is an art to that.

What I see the difference between UO and OSU right now is play making ability. Simply, they have more elite-level players than we do that can create their own offense. Sabrina is Sabrina and she's an anomaly. But, both Sabally and Hebard can create their own shot, especially Sabally. I love Taylor but she appears to me to be making a living with put-backs. She really doesn't seem to have an impressive bag of moves to go to or quicks with her back to the basket. I did see her tonight, though, show a little bit of a move that I hadn't seen before. Shot-creating ability is where I see our offense struggling right now. We really only have 1 player-Destiny, maybe 2-Mik, that can create their own shot, break down their defender when they need to.The Ducks have 3 can I can count. Until we get shot-creators in our program I think we may find limitations to how far we can go. Just another reason why it would of been so nice to land Van Lith. I'm no bball coach, by any stretch, but I would start Jaz in place of Tudor. I'm sure Jaz can shoot the 3 as well (poorly) as Tudor is right now and I believe Jaz has more ability to break someone down off the dribble than Tudor does. My starting five would be Destiny, Mik, Jaz, Taylor, and Brown. Maybe even give Maddie another shot to start in place of Brown just due to more of an offensive threat and Maddie's not a bad defender either.
I said this after Friday's game; The Ducks are good this year. The better team won both of these games. It's that simple. Our Beavs are still a good team and will probably still get into the sweet 16. I think anything beyond that will be a nice surprise and maybe a little overachieving. We're still missing some pieces to take sustain our spot in that top 6 or 7 in the country. We've got to close on some of these elite game-changing recruits that we've missed out on.
Go Beavs!!!
