Tonight's game is a reminder that talk about new coaches is kinda crazy talk, for now. The Beavers went into the weekend as underdogs in both games and has a decent victory in one of them. 11 and 3, let the season play out for a while before freaking out over each loss. There was no "freaking out" some one posted a random thread topic and people post their thoughts. Kinda like every other thread here. Maybe freaking out about thread topics is more accurate?

I would counter that any form of "we suck", "fire everybody" threads after a loss is freaking out. but it is also expected and predictable.

I didn't see the game, so won't comment on anything in that regards except to say it is disappointing. I hope they can turn it around and surprise against Arizona, start kicking butt and make the tourney. Not feeling confident that can happen, but as a fan that is my hope.
But driving to work, I started to think more about WT and his tenure. He is in his 6 year, and it is looking unlikely that the Beavs will go to the tourney (but NIT is still in reach). As far as I'm concerned you can throw out all the he's better than we've had in a long-time, he's better than Robinson, he can only recruit staff family members, he came in with nothing on the roster, Tres was injured one year arguments. Fact is he will likely have produced one tourney team and one NIT team in 6 years. If one is fine with that then they are happy with WT staying. However, remember he has accomplished that with arguably the two best players he'll ever coach in a Beavs uniform (GPII and Tres), conceivably 3 more of the top 5 players he'll ever have (the Thompsons and Drew) and the best shot blocker he'll ever coach here. There is a good chance that in one of the next six years there is another year when injuries take their toll, and the cupboard looks to be pretty bare next year (like his first year as some argue), so is there any reason to believe that he'll do that well or better in his next 6 years. So for me the question isn't what better coach could OSU get than WT, it is are you happy with likely six-year runs at best like the last six. WT hasn't shown any great recruiting chops, so it is tough to fathom talent will be better in next six years.
I like Wayne and would love to see him and the Beavs have great success. I think WT will be here for at least two more years after this one, and I hope he has enough success that another extension makes sense. I'm just not seeing how that will happen. If they let WT go, no guarantees that the next coach will be better -- but certainly no guarantees he won't be. And the current ceiling of one NCAA and one NIT every 6 years with Wayne isn't making me jump for joy.

Just in terms of pure numbers, it sure seems like basketball would be the easiest Sport to recruit to. That is, of course, just looking at numbers .a better than average coach that can get 5 impact players, and that can coach them up, should be relatively easy to pull off. There are a lot of great and already promising kids out there that would love to show off their ability and get a shot at the next level. I, personally, wonder about the use of the current kids and see problems there. I think that Sean Miller - Moore needs much more time on the court and he is super active and athletic and is a positive disruptor on both ends of the floor. Jared Lucas has great potential, but they seem to want to make him a point guard rather than an effective SG. He needs a lot more playing time and they need to take the 'pass first' approach off of his game . I see very little from Vernon or Hunt. We have other kids that deserve time on the floor. I don't think we are staring or playing the kids that can be most effective . Yes, Tres and Hollins and Kelly - but mix things up in the backcourt .
