Not saying Wilson wouldn’t help the Beavs, but he’s playing OK against lesser competition. He had 5 rebounds against PSU. Gianni Hunt had 5 against PSU. One impressive stat he had is 4 fouls in 6 minutes in his second game. I wish Wilson well and hope he had a good career at Idaho, but I’m not sure he would have been more than a bench player for Beavs. Although with ANY playing time and development at all last year he's a better option than Silva or Dastrup. Off course, really what bench? I guess my real point with Jack, and some others, this staff couldn't afford to lose key recruits. But, since development is lacking... does it matter? I actually think Silva is better than him at this point, which may not be saying much. Still think Washington was the biggest loss from last year. Can’t figure out Dastrup. He’s actually got some skills, but seems too out of shape to play. How is that possible after sitting out last year with plenty of time to get into playing shape?

So its a pass on Tyronn Lue?... Damn poor guy got stepped over by iverson, bossed around by Lebron, and now aint good enough to coach college basketball lol!
But for real though, what IF, IF mind you ... the beavers basketball did what beaver football did and hired the fan favorite from the glory days? Like maybe Gary Payton, The Glove! Hes coaching a big 3 team and is doing pretty well on coaching ex-nba players and street ball players. If its working for football, it may work for basketball??

I will bet Rueck given the mens team would have a better cohesive unit.

Agree that WW was the biggest loss from last year. There were 20-25 minutes a game there for him this year if he wanted them and maybe more. Really could use his defense and rebounding this year.
From a guy I talked to who works with the team though I was told that he wasn't excited about going to school here, being here, waiting for more PT, etc. Essentially a Derrick Bruce situation. Maybe a him problem, maybe a coaching staff problem, maybe a university problem, or maybe a combination of all three.
He's at Nevada now and is redshirting this year so we won't really get to see what we're missing at least until next year.

Easy answer. A coach with a son that is a 5-star HS senior.

OSU is in a really tough spot with WT. He's been good enough to have teams that are respectable (conference foes have to actually try to beat his teams), but he's not able to bring in enough talent or coach up lesser talent to challenge for the upper 1/3rd of the conference spots and make the tourney. It feels like the Blazer's situation, where the city isn't a draw for the top free agents, so to get beyond a 2nd round playoff team is a major challenge... yet they are good enough to not consider a complete rebuild (seemingly every year).
The worst part is that an OK team is not going to draw fans, and so being respectable only is a net financial loss. I'm very glad fro Wayne putting together a team that isn't a laughingstock, but I'm not turning into his team to watch .500 conference ball either.
I've wondered if Wayne might want another gig as well once TT graduates ... if so, a change might must happen soon anyway.

As a fan most of never know the inside scoop of coaches, the locker room vibe, their true personal makeup. So as a fan to throw out possible names is more than a crap shoot. That said, if we can just toss out names: I was all in on a few until they took jobs for 2019... Mike Young was a fav, but he's now at VaTech; Dan Hurley, going to UConn; Chris Mack to Louisville; Nate Oates to Bama -I liked what I saw on the bench and in the play of PSU. I have watched them play 4 times since Barret Peery was hired and they get up and down, have good discipline, and he seems to make players better. He doesn't get the chance to get the better recruits, but has a ton of D1 experience with good coaches and was quite successful as a Juco HC. He's made PSU respectable since his hire in 2017. -John Becker still at Vermont is highly thought of, but no real West Coast ties that I know of. He's 193-84 in 8 years as HC, with (3) NCAAs -Craig Smith is my new fav for potential hire. He's young (47), experienced as both assistant (Nebraska, Colorado St, smaller schools), HC- Mayville St (NAIA DII) 72-29, South Dakota St 79-55, now at Utah St 28-7 his first year and NCAA 1st round, currently 13-2... 192-93 as a HC. Voted COY (5) times, including last year in the MWC. Have done no recent research on any new names for 2020... I didn't think we were allowed to consider another coach from Utah St. Leon Rice from Boise St. would be one to look at as well. Although, he had a rough year last year. Exactly the same response I got when I mentioned Craig Smith last year. They’re having another nice season.

Terry Porter gets a lot out of his players at UP. But his sons will be done playing soon.

Another coach to watch from the Big Sky conference is Todd Simon at Southern Utah. Not someone who I’d advocate for now, but that’s a pretty poor job and he’s done a pretty good job. Took over from a coach whose highest win total was 11 games over four seasons. In Simon’s first season only improved from 5 wins to 6, but then went to 13 wins and then 17 last year. Right now they’re 8-5. He’s from the Lon Kruger coaching tree and relatively young (39). They’re roster is a combination of transfers (6) and high school recruits. Being that I don’t really see WT going anywhere for likely at least a season or two, someone to keep a eye on.
