Location: Salem, OR Comcast internet: old "Blast" level. ~25mb up and down $60/mo. Not sure what black magic I pulled off by I have had a price lock for like 5 years now at this level... It is pretty good. I never buffer while streaming, and we can have multiple streams at the same time. I have two teenage daughters. Sling TV: Orange+Blue and sports extra. $49.98/mo (new price I think. that was my charge that just hit like two days ago) This package gives me Pac-12 (and others), NFL network, Redzone, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3 (which carries most ABC primetime broadcasts) FS1. My intention is to get an AirTV box and set up an antenna. I have drug my feet on it, mostly due to no desire to hang out on my roof in the Oregon winter. I have gotten by with Fox Sports app and NBS sports app. Both allow the Sling TV login to get you access. CBS and regular ABC remain an issue until I get the antenna set up Hulu: regular ads included version $5.99 I use this almost exclusively for Letterkenny. My family watches other shows though. Netflix: $12.99 I am all aboard that Witcher hype train. Amazon Prime: $12.99 (I should pay for it in year chunks, not sure why I ended up month to month...) I don't really watch too many prime shows. It worked out okay for Thursday night football though. I figure I get my Prime's money worth over Christmas every year, so whatever. Disney+ I bought the year for $70 ( I think. close to that). All aboard that Mandalorian hype train. My kids, however, watch the s%#t outta Disney+ I'm not super tech savvy, so I don't know if ~25Mb is different from the 200Mbps I'm paying for, but it sounds like I might not need as much as I'm getting. That being said, I too am paying $60 for internet (I purchased my own modem and router so as not to pay comcast the $15/mo or whatever they charge. If my modem/router work for two years before I need to buy a new one, I figure I'm saving money.)

I dunno what is up, like I said, I signed up for internet only years and years ago, I pay it automatically on my credit card and it has remained at $60 this whole time. I should look into it sometime I suppose! pretty likely service tiers have changed and I am getting grandfathered into something and not paying attention. All I really know is that I can download 4GB updates to some games I play in less than an hour, and I can handle 3 different TVs streaming something at the same time with no buffering. good enough for me! But yes, if you really are getting a 200Mbps service, you are getting a killer deal. 25mbps is what you need for ultra 4K viewing of stream quickly with no buffering. if you just are watching regular HD programming, you need significantly less. 200mbps is likely overkill if all you are doing is streaming. I wouldn't mess with a good thing if I were you!

I’m an unapologetic Bud drinker! Sorry. I know what I like. Bud is sex on the beach--F'ing near water. 😁 You know, I am a lifetime Oregonian, and I wear my beer snob hat proudly. But, like, at the same time, there is a time and place for a cheap beer. f%#*in' micro brews are pushing $7 a pint in most bars these days. And as the industry grows, counterintuitively the creativity and innovation is dying. The only thing you find in a bar these days are 30 different kinds of s%#tty IPAs. Oh, got your s%#tty Hazy IPA here, Oh look at our fancy new Juicy IPA, we poured 14 tons of grapefruit juice into this one! I like IPAs. don't get me wrong. but I like good ones. all these wannabe upstarts aren't giving me something new. they are jumping on a trend bandwagon and giving me garbage. Know what is in my fridge more times than not? 10 barrel pub beer. $12 for an 18 pack at WinCo. I'll never turn down a Natural Light baby. gimmie that natty light! Every day is a Corona day, or even better a Modelo day. Personally not a Bud or Bud light fan, though I became an adopted fan when my buddy won a Bud Light contest that flew him and a friend (ME!!!!) to the NFL draft in Nashville this year. I drank my body weight in free bud light. But what I am a fan of, is OG Coors. not Coors light, but the original golden yellow can Coors the Banquet beer, beer. Time and place man. I ain't downing a Worthy IPA after I just mowed the lawn on a 90 degree summer day, know what I am sayin'?

My son playing Xbox, facetiming a friend and watching tik tok videos simultaneously makes my head hurt. The day where I approach Xfinity's 1Tb data limit per month is fast approaching now that we've installed a video doorbell as well.

The day where I approach Xfinity's 1Tb data limit per month is fast approaching now that we've installed a video doorbell as well. Fortunately day to day online gaming uses very little data. Most game data are all still stored locally an only tiny packets of positional data are sent back and forth. like literal number XYZ coordinates. even though this happens multiple times a second, you aren't even close to approaching many megabytes, let alone gigabytes of data playing games even for hours on end. game updates and assets (skins, graphics, music) can be significant though. Of course if you buy and download a game it can be 30, 40, 50 or more GBs. I played the last Call of Duty, the WWII one, and after a couple map packs and DLC and all that, I think my game files were north of 100GBs. But yeah, non-stop facetiming and video streaming is gonna add up quick! My kids love the tik-tok but fortunately keep just to big group text chats and haven't developed a habit of video chatting.

OK small brewery. Closest distributor is Cali, I think? Had it in Colorado during our Buff trip/Win! Worthy brewing line up is generally my go to IPAs from around here. Racer 5 (forgot the brewery, but they are out of Cali) is a great one. solid beer, that hits good (7%). In my opinion, it is everything Pliney the Elder tries to be, but for less money and hype. I drink with the seasons. It is winter, I drink stouts and porters. come summer time I will go back to Pale Ales (big on Ninkasi Pacific Rain, or of course, Sierra Nevada, the gold standard of Pale Ale) and IPAs. generally mosey onto Amber Ales and Red Ales in the fall. It all seems appropriate and it helps keep the beer fresh in my mind. i don't burn out. Speaking of Sierra Nevada, they released a "session" IPA recently. a lowly 4%, but it drinks REALLY well. I forgot the name, but they have a picture of a fly fisherman on the bottle. And of course, I keep cheap beer on hand. I like both Modelo offerings, the Negra and the Especial. so I just get the combo back from Costco! But you brought up Whiskey and Scotch. Keep them both. Right now, for the money, you simply cannot do better than Buffalo Trace. Bulleit is close, but you just cannot beat a highly drinkable, smooth whiskey for $26. My absolute mainstay. It is defcon 11 when we run out in our house. Related, when you can get your grubby paws on them, you need to grab their Weller line. Weller special reserve, Weller 12, or even Weller antique 107. They are wheated bourbons, meaning the wheat ratio in the mash bill is much higher, replacing much of the corn. Makes for a incredibly smooth drinking whiskey. Related, Buffalo Trace line ups include Blantons, more high dollar but a good one. We are in the midst of a major Whiskey fad, all the hipsters are on to it. I have been lucky to get a couple Wellers to hide in the cabinet for when I clear out the riff-raff (you keep the JD around for them!) Most of the time I just drink it with a couple ice cubes. but if I am feeling fancy, Old Fashion is the go to cocktail.

I think I checked in 13 on my Untappd. Anyway I had one called Mega Devil's Teeth Aged in Bourbon Barrels w Cocoa, Coconut and Macadamia nuts that was 13.5%. I bet people that like these types of beers think it is amazing. They were aghast that I thought it was gross. But I still thanked them for including me in their super-flight as I slowly sipped my Longboard in the kitchen with my wife's coworkers.

When you get up to 12, 13% beers you are no longer beer... you are bad wine. There is a reason the original high ABV beers of old were called Barley Wines. With that said, love me a good bourbon barrel aged stout. But driving the ABV that high requires a metric f%#*ton of malt, and quite frankly, yeast that isn't "beer" yeast. It alters the taste too much, you get some weird stuff going on. There are good ones that are more like 8 or 9% that should be tried. In my humble beer snob opinion, 10% is an absolute ceiling for a beer. and that is even pushing it. Normal ale yeasts cannot survive well past 6 or 7%. You need to start using some specialty yeast to get that high. derivatives of wine and champagne yeasts. Something any real homebrewer would know, is the yeast is a significant factor in the taste profile of the beer. you can have all the right grains and hops, but if you use the wrong yeast you screw up the whole thing.

I must like wine yeast then (although I dislike wine in general).... because I LOVE me some bourbon barrel aged stouts! Block-15 usually has a nice one in February (bourbon month, Super Nebula (11%)), and crux has a really good one right now called " Tough Love" (11.5%). I am not a brewer, and I have no idea what "Triple IPA" means, but I usually DON'T like IPAs or hoppy beers at all, but this one from Boneyard, Notorious (12%) is PHENOMENAL. Hardly tastes like an IPA at all, goes down wonderful and smooth, and is SUPER dangerous. 1 pint and it is time to call an Uber Man, this Apple/Pac-12 TV conversation has gotten REALLY fun all of a sudden

It is getting up past that you have to start going champagne or wine yeast. and, depending on how much bourbon is there, the beer could actually be technically a "fortified" product. I know from experience adding a fifth of bourbon to a 5 gallon batch of beer makes a reasonably significant increase to the ABV... There are other ways to drive up your ABV... the biggest one is slowly freezing the beer. otherwise called "Jacking" and it is how AppleJack use to be made. Hard cider left outside in the winter in barrels, with people occasionally fishing out chunks of water ice, leaving behind increasingly concentrated cider. In this case, you aren't adding alcohol. you are taking out water. There was a time when beer names meant something. Anymore, it is all marketing, hype and hipster bulls%#t. "Triple IPA"?, i don't know. some made up horses%#t from a 23 year old dude with a long beard and a flat brimmed hat.

I generally am into IPAs from late March until late October, I guess it's because the brewers focus on it that time of year and start doing the darker stuff late fall. Block 15 does some great hazy IPA's, but they can be quite harsh for some people and they're a bit of an acquired taste that you have to build up to. Fort George probably consistently does the best hazy's I've had. Skies of Wonder is out right now and it's terrific and not overly bitter.
This time of the year it's mostly about Porters, Stouts and barrel aged Stouts for me. There's lots of good ones out right now. I'm starting to run into barrel aged beers that aren't overly "boozy" and "hot/burny" right out front although they still are pretty high in alcohol content and really appreciate the smoothness of them.... Unfortunately, I'm trying to stick to a keto diet for the next 4-6 weeks at least so microbrews are out... how sad.
I went to Colorado this summer and was surprised at how many breweries had 4-5 ounce pours priced on their menus up front so you can get a good sample of beer without having just one or two ounces free or having to buy a pint. You can literally sample 4 beers and and have around a pint total. It's not as common here, most brewers have a taster tray price and kind of push that. More of the growler places are getting into it though, a great way to try various beers without having to get a lot of beer.

Bourbon Barrel Aged Stout is my favorite thing ever. Have you tried anything from Alesong yet? They've got some really good stuff. I haven't been down to the brewery yet but have tried a couple of their bottled beers and they we're great. I've got a friend who raves about them. My biggest complaint about them is the darned wax seal on their bottles, but I can understand why they have it.
