Re-watching the game, noticed a few things:
- Mompemier really likes her high elbow hooks. Two blatant hooks should have been called. One took down Washington, who then got a foul called on her being subsequently tripped over. Later she aggressively hooks Brown, but misses the shot. Kennedy did indeed do a really good job on her, physically able to bang an not let her get position, but quick enough to stay with her spins. It says a lot that Kennedy could keep up with a center of her caliber and polish.
- Miami is a really athletic team. They really tried to throw a counter punch to the 9-0 opening run after the half with an aggressive full-court press. It had a bit of success, but that's where the playing DePaul, Missouri St and Pacific paid dividends. Wasn't perfect, but not a lot of mistakes either, and the net result was OSU kept pulling further away. Meanwhile, it seems to make Miami get out of control more. But they have players that can seek shots like some of the elite teams have.
- Pivec's mid-range game is so good, she really shouldn't bother going to the rim if the opposition has a good rim defender. She can get 10'-12' pull-ups all day long.
- About 20% of the travel calls - on both teams - where legitimately travels (at least how it's call any other time). It was like the refs were intentionally calling anything even close to the dribble not getting down before the pivot foot game up to force the players to make the dribble initiation completely obvious before the pivot foot comes up. Still probably good thing to have happen, as Pivec in particular periodically gets called for those types of traveling violations, sometimes at really bad times.
- Overall, game felt pretty business-like for OSU. Played efficient, overcame a few pretty terrible calls, and had some dry shooting spells. Still resulted in a 20+ road win because of good defensive rebounding and good defensive shooting %.
