I am starting this thread because the previous thread is getting too lengthy for me to follow...
There should be ton of recruiting news gushing in during the next few weeks as 2020 visits unfold and as transfers finalize their decisions. GO BEAVS !!

I think tsdtr is going to add another commit: Te-Hina PaoPao. They sure are on fire down there. Stanford has two top-60s, Oregon has two, and Arizona State has one. Hopefully we can add a few soon. PaoPao did have an OSU offer.

In an earlier thread I asked about the role of the various coaches in the recruiting process....Especially why Katie's name appears so often and other names much less.
Today (April 30) Adam Nicholson writes an article for Beaver Blitz on Jelena Mitrovic, and what was involved in her ultimately signing with the Beavs..... Jelena tells Nicholson that the lead recruiter for her was Brian Holsinger. Indeed, the two of them communicated on a regular basis (often thru Skype) for more than a year....
So, obviously Katie is not the only coach instrumental in reeling in our prime time recruits....(Not that anyone claimed she is).
Nicholson's article on Beaver Blitz does not really add much information to those who follow this board...On the positive side, Adam makes Mitrovic' game sound pretty good - -better, I think, than most of us on this board believe.
My guess is that Adam got most of his information about her game, and her skill set, from the OSU coaching staff even though he did not credit them as a source.... GO BEAVS !!

Haven't read the article, but I doubt that he makes her sound better than I believe. Her skills are already at an elite level. Compare her offensive skills to Kalani Brown or Teaira McCowan. If they are elite, then Jelena is already elite. And you need a membership to read that Blitz article headlined as follows: "Oregon State WBB signee Mitrovic speaks in-depth on decision VIP ByADAM NICHOLSON 85 minutes ago The Oregon State women's basketball team announced the signing of center Jelena Mitrovic two weeks ago. BeaverBlitz was able to catch up..."

thickhead you are right: Nicholson does not make Mitrovic sound better than you believe she is.

When Hollsinger was at Washington State.... he was the one that recruited all the International players on the WSU roster. He has several ties to coaches in Europe.

I was just going to say, I think Hollsinger identifies many of the international talents for the Beavs. I would also add that both Brian and Jonas are instrumental in identifying many of the younger girls (middle school, etc) that the Beavs begin to follow and make contact with, but it does seem to be Katie that builds relationships with many of the recruits and their families.
411500, you many be correct that Adam spoke with the coaches, but I think he got most of his information about Jelena from Dan at Passion Hoops, who has known her and seen her play for years. It was Dan that was able to get Adam in contact with Jelena.
thickhead, we all hope she is as good as you think she is, but honestly, I don't expect to see a lot of her on the court this season. I'm still hoping she redshirts, but I do expect her to be a very good player in a few years. She obviously has some talent. Let's see how she adapts to the size and speed of Pac-12 basketball, and how well she can condition herself, and learn to run the floor.

rmancarl - didn't know anything about Dan at Passion Hoops..Thanks for the tip..... -------
Personally, I'm not sure about the redshirt idea for Jelena....Even if she doesn't earn much floor time this year, I can't see a woman of her professional promise in the European leagues wanting to stay away from home (in Oregon - which is about as far from home as she can get and still be in North America).
Unless she has plans to remain in U.S.A., perhaps obtain citizenship, why would she stay away from her homeland a year, or two, longer than necessary?
I'm just thinking out loud here. I don't know Jelena, or her situation...But common sense tells us that she can make a better basketball living in Europe than in the U.S., AND, at the same time she can remain closer to her family, perhaps even start her own...
In 4 years Jelena likely will (a) have a college degree, (b) demonstrate complete fluency in English, and (c) perform far better as a basketball player. She will have dramatically increased her life options in Europe. This is what I presume (without evidence) is exactly what she is hoping for as she packs her suit case, hugs her loved ones, and heads out for her 4 year Internship in Corvallis....
I may not be right about this, but you don't have to know too many scholarship athletes from Europe to know that what I describe follows a well established pattern. It's not a carved-in-stone, but it's close to it....
GO BEAVS !!

Marie played ~11 min/game in all 32 games as a true freshman, but all eyes were on Ruth at the time. She now is exploring both WNBA and Europe career options. Let's hope Jelena is the next Marie..... Go Beavers!
