Really impressed with the Zags. We took their best remaining players out of their games, and EVERYBODY else stepped up. That is a very deep team.
Scott stuck with the plan of getting inside/to the rim, and it eventually paid off ... the Zags shots weren't falling late (until some very late lucky ones), and that was the difference. Both BSU and Gonzaga were more fun to watch, but it just wasn't winning basketball against a team with players like Pivec and Slocum who can take anybody off the dribble. Still, really impressive shooting by the Zags to control much of the game.
Another Sweet 16 for SR - just wow!

Campbell shooting .467 from 3s on the season, Pivec holds here to 0-5, with no good looks (that I can recall anyway). She shouldered that whole game.

Some of their players were really, really annoying. Asking the refs to watch something every other minutes. What a gutsy win. They have a lot of talent on that team, so it was a really good win. Didn’t think we had a chance last season against Baylor, so we’ll see! If we can execute like we did late and altogether play like we did after half, I think it can be close!

How about that Maddie Washington? ❤️ ❤️ She worked so hard. Didn’t take a play off and competed for every single rebound. Her turnaround fadeaway is really sweet, and she had a nice drive to the hoop too.

I think it’s Firehouse. Bland city.

sheesh...Gonzaga looked good. If their 2 players that were hurt in the WCC conference game played? We might be home crying in our beer lattes
The Ocho announcers added nothing to the game. No insight, no comment on tactics, no pointing out positioning or the way a play developed. Just....McPivec (!) going strong to the hoop. She so so strong. Did you know she does javelin?
Bring back Jon warren!

Gonzaga loses some key pieces in Smith, Rice, and Stockton, but they always seem to have players ready to step up. I like the Wirth twins game. Pretty physical and can post up or hit the mid range jumper. For some reason Kylee Griffen hasn’t played for them all season. I saw her on the bench. I believe we were a finalist for her. They always do a nice job recruiting in the 60-100 range, and we know stars can be found there!

It is my impression that other teams are very effective at getting open mid-range shots against Beaver teams... every year, not just this year. Has anyone else noticed that? Is Rueck’s defensive strategy inherently susceptible to it? At the same time, Rueck seems to under-utilize the mid-range shot. Take away the 3. Take away layups. Something has to be open. Pick your poison. The midrange 2 isn't worth as much as a 3, or a high percentage shot like a layin. I'm not sure why so many question SR's coaching acumen so consistently. No one is perfect, but he's pretty darn good and knows what he's doing, as his record indicates. This team is limited. Not terribly athletic, not especially talented at the 5, short guards, not much depth. And yet we outrebounded most teams were played, won 26 games, and are in the Sweet 16 again, despite playing more than half the season without the best outside shooter in the country and a pretty good defender and rebounder. This might be his best coaching job, except for Year 1, when it was a miracle we won any games at all.

So excited I need to mix today and tomorrow
I must be getting old; can't handle the stress of these games, but sure glad the team can. Just thinking we have Pivek, Slocum, Aquino, Corsdale/Goodman, Tudor and a deep bench coming back. Let's surprise Louisville and play above the level of our competition! Get to that Elite Eight!
Next season we could win it all.

Bring back Jon warren! We may indeed have lost with them full strengthy, but they way they stepped up, maybe not. If you look at their shot chart compared to the previous night, it's pretty remarkable: www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/playbyplay?gameId=401124215www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/playbyplay?gameId=401124136The Little Rock game looks more typical in general, and more typical for them. Tonight it was a really impressive job of them exploiting repeatedly the middle of the court on the collapsed interior and OSU's commitment to defending the 3. A different lineup might actually have had a more difficult time repeating that (and instead tried to force what they more commonly do). They took a ton of shots just just outside the range of JG - and these weren't running floaters, they were often in rhythm and squared up. I felt like we got out played/coached for 3 quarters again tonight.
