"I find it hard to believe that Oregon State's team next year won't be tallest college women's team ever." I think beavsteve needs to reread that sentence. The funny thing is that I did! Senile at 62! FYI... The team average next year will be 6'-2.3" . That team average is probably not a record. While most teams won't have the bigs we have, they may very well have shorter, but still tall players, plus tall guards that bring up the average. The record to look at would be "tallest starting five". In that category, a realistic line up could average 6'-4.2" and a "for grins" lineup (still maintaining guards at the guard position) could average 6'-4.8". (Of course if you want to put Taylor and Tay at guard, that number would go higher).

Al this height is great to talk about, but mobility and attitude are the true keys as epitomized by a "shortie" like Mik. I'll take 6 footers like her all day long.

Well, just when you thought Oregon State couldn't get any bigger, they just did. So, these gals must not mind all the competition they will get on the team to play the 4 and 5 spots. It will be interesting to see if they all stay after next season. Obviously they believe Scott Rueck is the "post whisperer" as someone on the Boneyard forum called him. I can't disagree, as Grymek has made huge strides this year, and continues to improve. Too bad for her she only got 2 years to develop under Scott. I find it hard to believe that Oregon State's team next year won't be tallest college women's team ever. So maybe Rueck really does think 6'6" McDonald's AA Kennedy Brown can effectively play the 3....just a thought. What makes you think this won't be the tallest college women's team in history? Who now holds the record? I think those worried about playing time text year should be Maddie and Janessa... at least when it comes time for the conference season. However, they may play when we need to run with a small, quick team. Yes, with the addition of Mitrovic, it is pretty clear that Scott wants to play Brown at the wing. I haven't seen her percentage, but I've gotten the impression that she has a good 3-pt shot. The ones I've seen on film show good form. I do think OSU's team next season might well be the tallest women's CBB team ever. I guess my sentence could have been worded differently.

For those of you who didn't notice it posted on the recruiting board. The front line won't be much of an issue next year. Will we have any weaknesses? I don't think so. Careful... "chickens... hatch"... we have two we all thought would be playing extensively this year. Potential is great, but I'm going to be excited when they all hit the court healthy... and able to contribute. But, great start to next signing period. "we all thought"?

LOL, thickhead, but she will get to go to Hawaii every year. Does anyone know for sure, do the incoming freshman get to travel with the team to Italy? I'm guessing that since they enroll in the summer for the bridge (or whatever they call it now) program, they are eligible to make the trip, but I'm not positive on that. They have to be able to go. These trips are only once every four years. If freshmen weren't able to go, then every freshman class in the year of the trip would never get to go on a foreign trip: The next time a trip year came around, they'd have graduated!

Beavsteve, Thanks for posting the good news in this forum. Do you have a link to the referenced "recruiting board" noted above that confirms the verbal commitment by Mitrovic? I checked the internet a bit and could not locate the commitment. I attached below a link to the BlueStar Media player profile on the 6'9" Serbian international as of August 2018. www.bluestarmedia.org/my-24-player-watch-list-for-fibau18-europe/ JELENA MITROVIC – SERBIA
Likely to be the tallest player in the competition and certainly a nightmare defensive assignment for any of her opponents, Mitrovic is an intriguing prospect and built in the ‘old school basketball’ mold. In the modern age, that doesn’t mean she is a throwback or somehow lesser of a player than anyone else. The Serbian center offers a real traditional puzzle for those who have to stop her and guard her. Keeping her off the boards and from cleaning up put-back scores is a challenge and she has a nice touch and runs the floor well for her huge size. She could be dominant and knows at least one of the courts in Udine from when she shone two years ago, playing there at U16.

Amazing to contemplate we have a 3 person incoming class and the average height of that class is something like 6'5" or more......there are MBB teams that don't have that.....
What is the relationship of PassionHoops to Jelena?
Go Beavers!

Having front-line players with this kind of size will make it very appealing for a good point guard (or two) and shooting guards to commit to the Beavers in 2020. The new players will need to mesh, learn the 'D', and the offense.... but what a great time to have the Italy trip as a prelude to the season! By the Pac-12 season, Scott will have them clicking. Heck, that's pretty messed up for Mitrovic. She barely gets here, then she has to head back to the same part of the world that she came from, to a region in Italy she has probably been to numerous times in her life, and that's supposed to be her one and only exciting road trip for her entire Beaver career? Buggers on that! Buggers I say! She grew up in Serbia. She will have plenty of exciting road trips, to Los Angeles, the Bay Area, Seattle, Phoenix, Denver/Boulder, SLC ... places many Europeans would love to visit.

If Scott envisions Brown at the wing, it is probable that Aquino, who has the mobility and skill to do so , will can play power forward, leaving the center position still open for the remaining bigs. Of course this would realistically happen during 20-21 season when they are sophs although they could be transitioned in during the next season.
I certainly hope that posters on this site have learned the lesson about expecting freshman ( especially posts ) to come in and make an immediate impact.

Will this make us the tallest team next year? 6'9", 6'9", 6'7", 6'6", 6'3", 6'3" is amazing size for a women's team. Truly a great day to be a beaver! Not only did we win the recruit but we kept asu from getting her. It's not for sure that AA will see the floor next year....or ever! We can't go with what's on paper. When all six are dressed down and getting playing time...then we might be the tallest team in D1!

Agree totally with beav74. Why are we still recruiting this late for next season and post at 6'9" it would make sense to have an 'insurance' policy for AA

I have to say I think Jelena made a very good choice - just seeing the progress that Jo has made this season would sell me, but also the offensive philosophy of dead eye outside shooters giving posts more space, and the defensive philosophy of funneling block candidates my way......good choice.
Saying first year players don't contribute minimizes what Taya, Aleah, Jo, Mik, and even PM and Jas (to a lesser extent) have contributed this year or last.
Go Beavers!
