This is an interesting one. I’ve noticed that our program is now following Makenna Brandner on Instagram. Don’t know much about her, but she’s a 6’0 guard out of Pasco, WA. You guessed it- she played high school ball and is close friends with TVO. She’s an uncommitted 2021 and I’m not sure how many (if any) scholarship offers she holds from other schools. But it seems possible that we could be trying to add to the roster before next season begins. I seriously doubt we are recruiting her. I found her stats online and she shoots 34% FG and 26% 3pt FG and none of her other stats make her look the least bit out of the ordinary. A walk-on maybe? |

There seems to be some mutual interest between Oregon State and UW signee AJ Marotte. She was their highest ranked commit at #62 and is a 6-0 guard from Texas. Beavs had shown some interest in her throughout her prep career.
We’ll likely know more soon after UW announced their hire. She is good friends with Talia.

There appears to be limited film on her, and no ESPN evaluation since the previous evaluator did not have a page on her. Only shot 26% from three as a senior, so probably not much of a three point shooter. 46 FG% and 81 FT%. With the coaching change at Washington, she has obviously been let off the hook. It looks like her and Greta are newly following each other on Instagram, so that probably tells us something. Here's what was written about her on Washington's website when she signed with them: According to ESPN, Ashtynne Jenner Marotte (better known as A.J.) is Coach Wynn's highest rated UW recruit, landing 63rd overall nationally – 26th among guards. In her first three years playing for Keith Allen and the Vista Ridge Rangers, Marotte has amassed 1,441 points and 931 rebounds in 104 games. Marotte has been on coaches' radars for a long time as she broke out as a freshman for the Rangers and was the 2018 All-Central Texas Newcomer of the Year and Texas District 25-6A Newcomer of the Year. She also earned an all-state nod from the Texas Girls Coaches Association after averaging 10.5 points and nine rebounds. She followed up her first year by averaging 14.2 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game as a sophomore, earning First Team Texas All-District 13-6A, TAGC 6A All-State and TABC Region 2 6A All-Region recognition. Marotte continued her dominance as a junior in 2020, leading Vista Ridge to the Regional Semifinals of the Texas 6A State championships. Marotte has also been a member of the Adidas USA Select Team, where she gained international playing experience, teaming up in Spain with current UW freshman Jayda Noble in 2019. |

AJ would seem to be one of our best possible last minute pick-up scenarios. She already has a good mid-range game and I bet you we’d get that 3 point percentage to climb throughout her career. Fingers crossed!

I believe those may have been from back when her recruitment was open, before committing to Washington. KF is the newest person A J is following now though, so at the very least I would say she has heard from Katie. On Instagram, A J and Greta are newly following each other, and A J has recently started following beaverwbb. I'm not sure either her, or the coaches are following each other on Instagram. I didn't go through the entire list of followers/following. It doesn't take much reading between the lines to know there has been talk. What that ends up amounting to may not be much. But, for her to be following beaverwbb, shows there is interest on her part. |

I think ideally we add Marotte or Alarcon and then maybe an upperclass transfer.
I would be good with either Marotte or Alarcon, but it’s hard to tell which I would prefer because international recruits film can be tricky. Alarcon is a really good three point shooter though, and that is clear statistically.
