Awesome. Andersen now has a job as an associate head coach.
For some time now, ever since Andersen packed his bags and bailed out of the mess that his overwhelming ego created, I have been worried that my harsh criticism of him may have been over the top because the guy may have been suffering from some type of mental illness. I mean, honestly...what kind of crazy does it take to text criticism of your assistants and players to one of the (the?) biggest jackasses in the Oregon media when you know he is the type of guy to spill into the public forum what really should be private matters?
Now, any guilt or worry about the harsh criticism that I have doled out to Andersen is completely assuaged. Surely, if another Power 5 football program is going to entrust him with a chunk of its program, even make him the associate head coach, then any fears of mental illness are gone. Now I can comfortably sit back and feel no qualms about putting that guy through the shredder.
And rest assured, I will whenever his name comes up. He deserves it. He tanked our program, and badly. Two of his three years competed, record- and statistic-wise, with the worst teams that OSU has had in modern history in terms of bottom of the barrel ineffectiveness. His arrogance compelled him to rip the program apart so he could build it in his image, as if he was some football god descended from Olympus, and that kind of hubris crushed the program. Now, our new coach is in the difficult position of trying to restore the program from the ashes. I think Smith can do it, but Andersen didn't make things any easier.
So glad he is Utah's problem now. Gary Andersen should be vilified by Oregon State fans until the white hot heat death of the universe. Don't you dare ever tell me to let it go. or to let the past be in the past. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. Gary Andersen destroyed Oregon State to a degree that will take years and years to recover from. Gary Andersen essentially robbed Oregonians and Oregon State fans of millions of dollars and provided absolutely nothing in return. Nothing is better for his presence and all aspects of Oregon State was harmed by him. Smith has a real tall order on his hands. I think he is the guy to do it. He was the first QB to be a winner at Oregon State in a generation. He will be the head coach to fix the mess that Andersen made. So agree with Atown on this. GAG destroyed this program, disillusioned a fan base, hampered or ruined numerous athletes' careers, caused tix sales to drop, caused booster support to drop, publicly embarrassed the university with his backdoor texts to Crapzano, ran recruiting into the ground, made BAD assistant hires and erratically changed defensive and offensive schemes year over year that did NOT work for the existing personnel. It will take years to recover from this to even get back to the mediocre level the program was when MR left. GAG is accountable and responsible for all this destruction. There should be no well wishing or good lucks to anything GAG does. He should be shunned and vilified for this incompetence and idiocy. The impact of his actions are COLOSSAL!

We went to a bowl three seasons after Jerry Pettibone went 1-10 and 2-9. No reason to think it can't happen again.

This hardly surprises me a bit. If I was better at using the forum tools I'd look up one of my posts from earlier this season when I asked the question; is GA deliberately seeking retribution on OSU football for the 2007 loss the Beavers handed the Utes?
Adding up comments he's made while our HC, it was apparent he never got over that defeat and I got the clear impression something about it for him ran deeper than we may ever understand or know.
If he wasn't deliberately trying to dismantle the foundation of this program or cause it irreperable damage than the alternative is what? Near complete incompetence? That's possible, but in every single facet of the job description that's total incompetence and I'm not sure total incompetence is possible? Recruiting, player evaluation, player development, assistant hires, managing assistants, offensive identity, defensive identity, team moral, competitiveness.
Is it really possible to unintentionally miss on every single one of those marks?

The second that a$$hat comes back to town, I will make a point to be there and give him the rudest "welcome back" greeting I can give. I would suggest all of Beaver Nation do the same.

Gary did two Utah radio interviews: espn700sports.com/interviews/gary-andersen-utah-assistant-coach-1-2-18/Sounded like a reunion of old friends... That was a love fest... What an odd situation, they did not talk much about him quitting on the Beavs really at all, mostly talked about the "Good old Utah days", and inside stories (the radio host was a former Utah player that played for Gary) smh... Doesn't sound like he is going through a bitter divorce, talked about Stacy several times... "Utah is an easy place to recruit..." espn700sports.com/news/gary-andersen-utah-associate-head-coach-defensive-assistant-1-2-18/"It's not a good spot for me it's a great spot for me and stacy" Gary sounds excited to get back to work and "be on a winner"... Misses "the kids". IRT to OSU, it's all in the past, He and Barnes are still friends, he has moved past it, and wishes Jonathan Smith and OSU the best... Andersons answers questions about his hubris and arrogance: "I don't have all the answers and never thought I have all the answers, I consider myself to be a humble guy and it's all about the players and I know that even more now" (Subtle dig at his former Beaver players) Talked about energy and "juice" again, smh. Still a cliche machine gun

Good riddance, I really don't give a crap about cga any more. If he pulls on the big boy pants and comes to Corvallis working for utah so what, best just to ignore him completely not worth the energy. We need all of our energy for coach Smith to fix the mess. Can we just let this subject go now?

Recruiting, player evaluation, player development, assistant hires, managing assistants, offensive identity, defensive identity, team moral, competitiveness. Is it really possible to unintentionally miss on every single one of those marks? That's next level hate over a loss in the first game of the season. Utah was 8-5 in 2006 and unranked going into 2007. They followed up a loss to us with another loss to Air Force. At home. A 44-6 win over a vastly overrated 11th ranked UCLA (they would go on to finish 6-7 and fire Karl Dorrell) was followed up by a shutout loss to UNLV, 27-0. They would then rattle off seven straight wins before losing 17-1 to BYU in the last game of the season. If you can come up with any justification for Gary Andersen placing a 24-7 loss on the road to OSU over losses at home to Air Force, a shutout at UNLV (who finished 2-10 for God's sakes), or an end of season Holy War loss, I'm all ears. The loss to us did not derail what was supposed to be a dream season, it did not end up preventing them from some sort of Mountain West glory, and it was the first time we'd played Utah in fifteen years. This revenge theory then speculates that seven years after that loss, he left a perennial top 15 program (although it is likely he was going to be on his way out there anyways knowing what we know now) to take the job and torpedo our program? He waited seven years! That's like movie level revenge.....you killed my father and I've been waiting and training for a decade to exact my revenge type stuff. I'd be curious to know what these quotes were that you heard that made you think that specific game burned in his ass for so long. All I remember him saying was that he came here for that game, we handed it to him and he left thinking it would be a place he'd like to work.

Still a cliche machine gun What a joke - and posters on here still want to peddle the narrative we should refrain from commenting on, trashing GA for his time while here at OSU? Doesn't sound like any kind of acknowledgement or contrition for the condition he left our program, or the damage he inflicted. I will always believe there is more to this story. A REAL man would at least acknowledge that he screwed up here at OSU, that it was squarely on his shoulders, not blaming everyone else for his epic face plant as HC. If he were to at least do that, I would have much more respect for the man and would be much more willing to let it go, but that is not what he has done here - or continues to do. Simply glossing over the dumpster fire HE created while here before running with tail between legs back to Utah is a joke! This is why when people peddle the narrative that because he left 12 mil on the table he is such a swell stand up guy - I call BS on that one. I hope the boos are thunderous at Reser when the Utes come to town!

I read an article in a yoootah rag yesterday. The reporter was told beforehand that he should stick to the warm, fuzzy, homecoming aspect. Anderpants would not be answering any questions regarding his colossal failure and subsequent departure at OSU. Story was about how happy he and his family are to be back home and how great it is to "get the band back together"..........gag/puke.....
Gawd Awful Gary, there is a whole lot of quit in that boy.....
Go Beavs!!

If not, all he has to do is man up and say "I failed, I left because I was in the way. It was me, and the kids deserved better" That is even something halfway respectable. But dodging the entire thing means they don't want people digging. There is a lot of rumor out there. most of it crazy and some clearly not true (i.e., the messy divorce angle, impregnating a cheerleader and other bulls%#t like that). Of course walking away from guaranteed money is not normal. to walk away and not talk about it? even more not normal. It tells me OSU had the ability to fire Andersen for cause, and instead allowed him to resign and everybody is keeping quiet. I do think there was a little scandal of sorts. I have some suspicions... but nothing more than that.

I wouldn't piss him out if he was on fire. to be fair, I was super excited when we hired him. I really was. More than a few dozen times, I call this hire a home run, and the coup of the century. I got real worried at the spring game. I got even more worried during the 2015 season. by then, I thought this was bad and Andersen is not all he is cracked up to be. 2016 cemented that, then the 3M disaster an the entirety of this season cemented my white hot fury. I have no other explanation for Gary Andersen other than the University of Oregon secretly paid Andersen to destroy OSU in every possible way he could.
