Really? Do they really think our coaches are going to burn out our freshman ace? C’mon. We need him next year!
Besides, I’m sure there wasn’t a Beaver in that dugout who wasn’t itching to get in that game. How do you keep a young man out of the championship game? They dream of that!

And I’m sure Casey has a history of burning out pitchers just to win games....What an ass!

Pitch counts are LITERALLY the worst thing to happen to PITCHER HEALTH in the last couple decades. The idea that pitch 125 was worse than pitch 115 which was worse than pitch 95 for Kevin Abel is just brain dead... Pitch counts give coaches and "out" from actually thinking, judging and caring for their pitchers health.
By the ninth inning he was pitching free and easy and probably could have gone ANOTHER inning...
In terms of things that can actually cause or indicate injury, mechanics and stuff, it was the THIRD inning that Abel labored through, where the sun was still beating down on him, his velocity was down a bit and his breaking balls were less sharp that was more dangerous...
Don't get me wrong fatigue definitely can play a role in injury, but not because of the fatigue itself, but because fatigue leads to a break down in form and technique (assuming you don't already have bad mechanics), Abel's mechanics were a thing of BEAUTY in the 8th and 9th.

Pitch count is an individual statistic. Nolan Ryan once threw 235 pitches in a 13 inning game, and at age 42 averaged 127 pitches per game. One could contend that a 19 year old's arm is not yet fully developed, but if the mechanics are correct, and evidently they are, pitch count limit is defined by ability. Larry Brown is a troll looking for attention.

A similar spun story has shown up in several places, fueling some Arkansas, SEC, and other fans to castigate Casey and label him a selfish, "win at all costs" coach willing to risk a player's long term health. Rubbish.

The only thing I noticed was that Kevin came into the press conference stuffing his face with a candy bar . No ice, no special wrap, not even a pressure sleeve. Give the kid a year in the weight room and his velo will jump 2-3 mph, his new cutter will dance - there are two guys that cemented 1st round draft slots for themselves this series - Adley, whom I think went from possible 1/1 to "let's" lose these last few games so we can make sure we pick up that catcher from Oregon State", and Kevin Able.

Duck guy in the office said the same thing and I told him there are multiple photos of Abel using his right arm to hold up the trophy over his head.

This ‘writer’, is as in tune with the situation as a completely isolated medicine man, with a lost tribe in a deep, dark, isolated and undiscovered jungle that is almost totally colonized only by an extinct tribe of schizophrenic monkeys.

Probably just another SEC homer that lost money in Vegas betting on the hogs. To even intimate that PC cares only about winning a championship, and not the health of the kids, is more than just rubbish. It is utter BS. And the press wonders why so much of the public now think the press engages in "fake news". This clown reminds me of a certain reporter/ newspaper we have here in Oregon . Just looking to stir up controversy and generate clicks. "Dirty Laundry" Wilky?

I certainly was at 19 at least as developed as I was ever going to get. Every kid is different. If he were a 14 or 15 year old playing high school ball I would have more of a problem with it. But do we really think Casey would want to hurt that arm for the next couple of years. A lot of it was the way he was pitching and as smooth as it seemed, the rest was he had a shot at making history for himself... Was Casey going to take that away from his?

You could practically SEE the thought process for the coaching staff from the 6th inning on: Ask him how he feels when coming off the mound. If he even hesitates to say "Feeling great, coach!" we'll take him out. Coach tells himself, "at the FIRST sign of fatigue or struggle, we'll take him out. Heck, if anyone gets on base and forces him into the stretch, we'll take him out." And - none of that ever happened. He just cruised through the final 5 innings of that game. The decision was easy.

Just looking to stir up controversy and generate clicks. "Dirty Laundry" Wilky? I'll post it again, because it sums up how I feel about the media in general. (And I think that it has a catchy beat.) The media used to be a noble profession, and now, by and large, it is just a pack of jackels. The article's author is a snot-nosed ~35-year-old UCLA grad, who was a Communications major. Meh. Clicking on the link is a waste of energy and merely helps line that fool's pockets. Besides, why click on that guy's link, when you can help subsidize Disney: ESPN Article on Oregon State's Championship.
