There was an article pasted on the front of Yahoo sports yesterday from Jeff Passan with this sensationalized headline: "Why a convicted child molester is likely to be chosen in the MLB draft" I did not read it, nor will I link it. Media will run out these headlines ad nauseam. And... continue to use uneducated, uniformed verbiage to further sensationalize. At least 4 scouts had him 1st Rd talent taken in 3rd or 4th... IF front office would follow through. Every possible connection and background info was checked and ok. Thought I read somewhere else that confirmed at least 3 teams admitted he was on their board. But, alas it's a draft day regularity in all sports, those who know talent are often ignored for other reasons... some justified. In the case of Luke and MLB it's a farce. You can research every roster and find worse "people" somewhere in the top 40. Still say he'll pitch... for peanuts compared to what he's should get... and yes, he'll face a new round of scrutiny at every stop. It's today's "look at me... I've got a cause" society. But, he's talented enough and strong enough to persevere... if that's what he wants. I don't know Luke or his family, but we in our "circle" wondered if his regional performance was related to private conversations/negotiations with teams and whatever was said/happened they told him they had backed off. Yeah Kendall Rogers said that 3-4 teams had him on their board yesterday but didn't pull the trigger. We're currently in 17th round... I get it - it's scouts and GM's putting their necks out and taking the "risk" and then having to deal with a heavy PR backlash. If you just search "Luke Heimlich" on twitter there are hundreds of fans saying "please don't draft him" and tagging their respective teams. Some don't have any facts, some are still calling him a registered S.O., but that's the world we live in and he'll have to navigate the spotlight. Hope he gets a shot somewhere..and I have a hunch it may be a team that has already drafted another OSU player.

Re Fehmel. Wouldn’t it be great to have his Senior leadership next season? I’m hoping he does a ‘Matt Boyd’: Matt was 13th round after Jr. season....and 6th round after Sr. season. That’s not to equate their “stuff”. After 20 rounds, Bryce still not picked. I suspect he'll be back next year.

I suspect he'll be back next year. wouldn’t it be great to go into next season with 2 out of 3 weekend starting pitching slots already (very likely) ‘set’, with Fehmel & Abel. Especially given that 6 out of 8 positions will be, at least tentatively, up for grabs with the departure of Nick M, Cadyn G, Michael G, Trevor L, Steven K and Jack A / Kyle N.

Who else is left on the docket to get drafted. I have Bryce, Kyle, and maybe Jake getting a courtesy "we'll be looking for you next year" 39th round pick like Grietler got from the Pirates coming out of high school.

I don't know Luke or his family, but we in our "circle" wondered if his regional performance was related to private conversations/negotiations with teams and whatever was said/happened they told him they had backed off. First, sensationalized verbiage from the media!?!!?!?!?!? Outrageous! Please tell me that no one in the media eye has ever had to defend against sensationalized verbiage before. Click, click, click, click, click, click. Listen, it's the media's job to sensationalize and build stories around misleading questions. It is what they do. It is like being mad at birds for flying. Lousy jaguar with its spots! Lousy zebra with its stripes. Second, the hysterical responses to standard media clickbait is to a point now that is rather comical. several posters on this board--including you, baseba11--do a better job of defending Heimlich than Heimlich does himself. He has stated that he "pled guilty," which is a "conviction." If Heimlich wanted to avoid the negative press, he should really work on speaking about his past in a less sensationalized way.

Signing him that way negates the backlash of "drafting" him. Yup, I have no doubt that he’ll be quietly signed if not drafted in the later rounds. I’m sure there are several MLB organizations that would be happy to acquire him on the cheap.

I am wondering if his best hope is to legally change his name and grow a long beard where few will recognize him.

I’m sure there are several MLB organizations that would be happy to acquire him on the cheap. As a Senior, he was already going to be on the cheap. If he actually gets to negotiate a bonus with more than 1 team, he might actually get a little bit of money instead of the $1-5k that is common to give guys in the later rounds of the draft. He'll still come at a major discount either way.
