IMO, no sense wasting either Heimlich's or Fehmel's arms on that first game. Save 'em for LSU, SDSU, etc.
Abel/Eisert/Mulholland should be able to handle game #1. The 106th ranked team in the country is not likely to present an unsurmountable challenge for those guys.

The 3rd starter problem becomes a big problem. Maddox has a quality arm. Northwestern State isn't 106 in RPI with Maddox on the mound.

Most are 2:1 or 3:1 would be be interesting to see Abel or dare I say Gambrell on Fri, stats say NW is a free swinging team.

The bats coming back to life would be 2/3 of the solution to our pitching concerns. The other 1/3 solved if we just do not walk people and let our outstanding defense do their work. We don't have to be looking for out of this world performances, they just need to go out and pitch to the best of their abilities and things will work out.

Maddox isn't their "Friday" guy but the stats definitely are, interesting who they pitch....

Those three teams also had no problem with the 3rd starter for Oregon State. I could see Beavers going with whichever guy is now the 3rd starter on Friday. It makes sense, but that 106 RPI is a lot higher than some teams that have thrashed the 3rd Beaver starter.

Higher is actually not better? not nitting at you just trying to get what you are saying. Anyway if you are Pat Casey and Nate Yeskie can you really count on the comparative RPI to choose a game 1 starter? Those guys probably go with something a lot closer to intuition, latest bullpen sessions, line up scouting vs pitch selection. I have no idea either but going with Abel or Mullholland and saving Luke and Fehmel sounds appealing. My pick would be Mulholland because of the age and experience factor. There's always the option of bringing in Luke or Fehmel to get a sure save though i hate that idea for game 1. Losing out of the gate is unthinkable.

Bottom line is we have to hit and score runs.... I hate to bring it up, but you remember when #8 didn't get a hit until the last game of the regional? That hurt. Everyone needs to hit this weekend!

If we bring the offense that we've shown for most of the season, it won't matter who we have on the mound.

Brace yourself... but Pat usually sticks with the normal rotation. I can see him having Bryce go on Friday and Luke on Saturday, but I'd be shocked if we go with Abel or the Relievers on Friday night.
The losers path is just too tough to risk a loss on Friday night. Our problems would go from who is #3, to who is #4, #5. etc... if we lose at any time.

The real problem is that I wasn't even drinking beer when I screwed that up. Yep. Just a brain freeze on getting upside down
