The loss today and the Weekend Series Loss is all on the Coaches. Abel's emotions were too high at the end of the 7th. He should have never been allowed to start the 8th when Eisert and Mulholland were both warmed up. It is not like we have a Tuesday game to worry about this week. Poor coaching costs the game today. Abel could have left Arizona with a positive experience, instead he leaves with a huge disappointment. Coaches have made horrible mistakes in the last 9 days in my opinion. Too many runners thrown out at home, pitchers left in when they shouldn't have been left in and pitchers coming into games when they shouldn't (in a NON-League game!). Just my 2 cents...
PC and Yeskie see this, they know this. Yet they left him to flounder. He should have walked off after the 7th with a huge feeling of success. His pitching esteem blooming. He then should have had a private ass chewing in the dugout. And, as happens when you chew ass after success it is heard loud and clear, as opposed to what Abel was focused on after being pulled. I have no idea what occurred in said dugout, but if you're leaving him for the 8th you best not be chewing his ass between innings.
Instead he puts the first guy on in the 8th and falls apart. The staff watches and allows it to get worse. Abel misses two pick signs... leaving the 2B standing on the bag during one pitch and almost throwing another into CF. He continues to put guys while two more experienced and successful (this season) arms stand heated in the pen.
Instead of finishing on a positive note Abel, like Chamberlain being left to "roast" for 8 ER, is now facing mechanical and mental issues... confidence will not be at a high point at the next stressful situation when it could have been leaving after 7.
Not that it matters to anyone here or in that dugout, but these last two weekends are the most disappointed I've ever been with a PC run staff. Completely uncharacteristic situational decisions, handling of pitchers, etc. Today the staff cost this team a well earned "W" and a series win despite our leading hitters having a awful weekend. And, maybe worse toyed with the emotional stability of a few key components that will be needed down the stretch.
Ok... rant/vent over... it was a long drive to Prescott stewing over these last 8 games... $3 ritas and great wings didn't help once I arrived. But, the craft brewery right across the street will be utilized to it's fullest the next three days. And, eff any golf ball that doesn't do what I want it to!!
