The Boneyard is just quoting DuckDuckGoose's comments from here. So, no new information. Our optimism is predicated on DDG's insight. There is more to the optimism than what bennyskid has noted above. I believe that Brown's decision is down to Oregon State and UCLA.

I believe that Brown's decision is down to Oregon State and UCLA. Is this a hunch or inside information? If true I like our chances, who has a better record developing post players? CC had Billings and I'm pretty sure she was much higher rated than both Ruth and Marie.

Billings was a UConn target coming out of HS, so she was definitely ranked much higher than either Gulich or Hamblin. Both ended up better than her (at least IMO), but they don’t have her athleticism, which proves how well SR and Co. develops his bigs.
According to ESPNW, I believe at #19 Kennedy Brown would be the highest ranked player ever to commit to the Beavs at the time of her commitment, and has the opportunity to be the highest ranked commit when she steps on campus. (I believe Aquino was NR when she committed and fell to the 20s before she arrived). Then there is always Prospects Nation which has Brown at #58, but regards our 2019 Taylor Jones very highly, #9 when she committed and now #15. But Jones is #42 on ESPN, largely in part to inactivity from injury and surgeries. Ahhh, rankings.
Regardless, both are top 2019 posts and both fit the Beaver-style extremely well, and thats the most important part. Scott is very selective with his recruits in terms of making sure they will thrive in his program.
If Brown does come as anticipated, our front court is loaded and versatile. Each prospect is very unique in terms of size and skill set, allowing Rueck to employ all different types of lineups to give our opponents troubles.
If Brown does not come, sure we miss out on a great player, but we can look forward to hopefully adding Brink or Daniels in 2020. If she does come, we’re probably looking at a 2020 class of all guards and wings.
I hope she makes the right decision and chooses the Beavs tomorrow! Only other decision I would support is Oklahoma. Immediate playing time, closer to home, etc. make it a justifiable choice. But UCLA or tsdtr... please no!
GO BEAVS

FWIW: Aquino was a top 10 recruit on ESPN when she first "verballed".

Well I looked back a little and I believe she verballed March 24, 2017 and she was promoted to #6 on Hoopgurlz (from being NR) on May 4, 2017...

Billings was the number 38 recruit according to Hoopgurlz, and was actually the lowest ranked of UCLA's 5 recruits that year. Canada was #4, Drummer #8, Caldwell # 19, and Hayes #26. For further contrast, Hebard was #40, Fingall of Stanford was #27, and Simon of USC was #48.

Yes, the notorious 2014 UCLA class that never made it past the elite 8. Canada and Caldwell in the same class didn’t pan out too well, as is typically the case with two elite PGs in one class. Interested to see what she can bring to Cal this year. Drummer and Hayes never really lived up to their rankings. Canada and Billings were usually terrific, but we had Gabby and Ruth or Marie to slow them down.
When we play Duke this year, their 2015 class, which was ranked number 1 in the country, will be seniors. They no longer have the centerpiece of that class, but is still underachieving nonetheless.
This all just proves that sure, having the players helps, but coaching and developing those players is equally important. Hence the success of this program. It hasn’t always been about bringing in top recruits (although we are starting to), but bringing in players who fit the system and developing them and coaching them up.

Actually proves recruiting sites, and especially recruiting rankings don't mean squat. Projecting players vs HS competition that are typically never even seem in person let alone now than once is pure folly.

What I think it shows more than anything else is just how great of a coach Rueck is and the program he's built at OSU. Furthermore, the HC down at UCLA is a great recruiter but her skills end there. She simply can't coach at the level that Rueck can, does, and has shown! It's pretty easy to see that your post-season will be limited if you choose to go to UCLA, whereas if you choose Corvallis you very well could play to the last game.
Go Beavs!

Ahh yes. Kansas is 2 hours ahead of us, so hopefully it will be around 4ish here when she publicizes her decision. I do feel good about this one, and hopefully for a good reason. Remember what happened last time we felt strongly about a recruit... Taylor Jones!

Remember what happened last time we felt strongly about a recruit... Taylor Jones! Kennedy was one of the first, if not the first, person not named Jones to repost and congratulate Taylor on her choice to become a Beaver. I hope her friendship with Taylor is a good sign for us, those two could become a real dynamic duo.

I'd also like to thank every coach who has recruited me along the way. This has been a long and hard process but I'm excited to finally… 0 replies 0 retweets 0 likes
