The early signing period for basketball NLIs is November 8-15, just under one month away. Looking forward with a little uncertainy to see if the Beavs can land Andrea Aquino, Jasmine Simmons, Patricia Morris, and any other Class of '18 recruits who have indicated their intent to attend OSU. One thing is for certain. Jasmine's future Beavers teammates will be sure to razz her about the 20-second YouTube video below should they come across it. Jasmine posted it in 2014 when she was 15 years old.

Lefty with hops. I liked her the 1st time I saw this and I like her now!!
The recruiting storyline will get a bit topsy turvy now that Rae Burrell (should have double checked spelling) is in the recruiting picture. I think Mayhew has been on the hook for a while - whether she still is I do not know.... If Burrell comes into play Mayhew might be looking at a preferred walk-on offer.....
I'm a bit surprised that we don't have more first hand info about Mayhew's game - - she lives in the Corvallis time zone...Everyone in Albany has seen her play. It's NOT hard to spot Pac-12 talent when you see it in an Oregon high school gym..... Totally guessing here, but she may be on hold as more high profile kids decide whether they are going to sign with the Beavs....
Why doesn't someone local give her a call? Can't be that hard........Just sayin'

She'd be a walk-on even with an open scholly and leaving room for the next year... She is just not Pac12 explosive, nor talented enough in any one area to make up for that. Good player for most programs, just not to the level SR has been able to pull in. IMHO

If Coach agrees with your assessment of Mayhew's game (and I have no idea if he does or if he doesn't) then that will make the recruitment of Rae Burrell all the more vital to this year's class.... As mentioned elsewhere, RB has the Beavs in her final four..... Rae has a Gabby type body (with more length), she apparently is a very tough defender, but she has more offensive game than Gabby - by a distance.
A lot of behind the scenes drama to carry us thru 'til the opening of Preseason play......

She's one of the better 5A girls, but there are not that many in this class I'd consider great talents. She's local, she's got a high hoops IQ, and could be a good role player off the bench. If you have a schollie to waste... great.

Meyhew is good enough for Adidas to pick her for a team that went to Italy. She gave a good showing for herself.
As for her high-school team, she is a woman among girls. South Albany historically has a really poor girls basketball team. She helped them to wins that they otherwise would not have, especially in conference. I don't think they had a single conference win the year before she came.
I've always wondered about her as a recruit, but I have faith in CR.

Adidas has multiple teams they pick too... she wasn't on what they consider their elite teams. 120+ Silver, Gold, and Platinum levels... crazy big system.

That "non-elite" team has some 4-star recruits on it. Mayhew came to everyone's attention when, as a soph, she outplayed senior Robbi Ryan - a 4-star recruit who started for ASU as a freshman. trib.com/sports/high-school/basketball-girls/natrona-gillette-will-meet-for-a-girls-title/article_8ca8d63a-a190-5d01-b535-6899473a3ffd.htmlOf course, Scott Rueck never saw that game. He evaluated her at some Adidas camp or tournament, I imagine. She committed to OSU, moved to Albany, and led one of the most hopeless programs in the state to a respectable season. She likely was the #1 scorer in the state at any level. (Unfortunately, OSAA doesn't keep those sorts of stats.) She went to Italy on an Adidas team that featured more than one 4-star recruit. Other members of that team have committed to major programs around the country. Here in Albany, she is universally described as a high-character person. In sum: there is enough on this resume to establish that Katie is a credible recruit - even if you don't trust Scott Rueck's ability to project talent. She is a known "high energy" defensive stopper, with offensive skills as well. She probably won't ever be evaluated by any scouts - why put time into studying a kid that is known to be committed? - so I expect that ESPN will list her as a two-star (like Kolbie Orum) or a three-star. My bet: she fills the Gabby Hanson role and sees significant playing time here as the go-to "stopper".

bennyskid -- thanks for the input...I hope your assessment of KM's game and talent level is spot on. All that is gold does not glitter, so maybe she is golden and those who see only glitter don't know. I hope so... I have been intrigued with KM ever since I read that SR more or less "promised" her a schollie at the end of her sophomore season...Promised is probably not the right word - but when your family pulls up stakes and moves into the Beavs' neighbourhood I assume something fairly serious transpired..
At any rate, I'm not in any way down-playing her game; as I wrote earlier, I'm actually trying to learn more about it by reading what those close to the scene have to say...
In a month, or so, when early signing period rolls around we'll all learn more about how Coach evaluates her game, and her future as a Beav.......

Rae Burrell lists California Golden Bears, Oklahoma Sooners, Oregon State Beavers, Marquette Golden Eagles, Tennessee Lady Vols as her schools of choice at HoopGurlz. We know she took an official visit to OSU (and her twitter feed lets us conclude she also visited Marquette twice). I'm hoping it comes down to us two and OSU wins out, but these are ~18 year olds we are talking about.... As far as "pulling a Westbrook", I think we have to hope these young ladies make good choices, and they find a fit for their talents where they are happy......sometimes that means OSU is in their future plans, and sometimes, sadly (for us), it may mean they go elsewhere.
That said, I think this recruiting class could be one of the most crucial for us becoming a Final 4 fixture - a team with Burrell and Corosdale/Maddie/Janessa at the wings, twin towers AA and PM (+ MoJo) inside (supplemented in coming years with Kennedy Brown and Cameron Brink), and Slocum/Pivec/Goodman/Simmons at point would be quite formidable for the next few years.......especially with SR at the helm.
Go Beavers!

I just don't think that a girl who puts on a look at me show would be a good fit for the beavs. Turns out that the guard we ended up with has enough defensive skills to shut down, think Gabby vs Plum, the offensive powerhouse that is Westbrook. She should be happy in vol orange and I wish her the best, unless we play against her.
And yes this could very well be a pivotal class, of course I've said that about the last half dozen classes. I do believe that every year is getting better, it would be nice to find a balanced class range. Four or five and then one or two (what we would have if not for MoJo). Better to have 3 every year.

Well, I believe one aspect of this signing class that has visibly remained constant and unwavering (from any side, OSU or the player) is the fact that Jazz Simmons is coming to OSU - right in her Twitter summary/bio is "OSU '18": twitter.com/jazz_simmonsNice to see, because I think she is going to be a very positive addition to our team, and she has demonstrated her skill set at arguably very high levels. I suspect there is a Pac-12 star in the making in Jazz Simmons..... Patricia Morris doesn't seem to have a Twitter presence (Note - I commend her for that, and think more of our country could follow her lead). As has been documented here, AA has a feed that was locked down some weeks ago (hopefully to fend off any potential "flippers" from messaging her). I continue to be encouraged by this web page: halfcourtwiltravel.weebly.com/wil2win-signees.html, though we could all be breathing each other's exhaust on that news, but one would think her club team would be in the know, and at least subtly take down that "newsy" item were they aware it had changed..... Interestingly enough, I seem to recall Mayhue's twitter account at one point reflected her verbal to OSU (a'la Simmons), and now it doesn't seem to: twitter.com/katiemayhue23Disclaimer - note the "seem to recall" qualifier on my last observation. I have been known to have "senior moments", so perhaps I imagined a change there :-). Go Beavers!

I notice that Katie has a few retweets from Montana on her feed. Perhaps she has a backup plan in place?

Also on the wil2win site: "Both Patricia and Andrea have since signed letters of intent to attend Oregon State University."
Of course, they haven't.
