The difference right now on offense is the line's inability to run block. Clearly Sean Harlow (now on an NFL 53-man roster) was not easily replaced. If we could run as successfully as we did against AZ and Oregon, we would be. No doubt losing Harlow hurts, but I really don't think last year's O-line would have faired all that much better in this offense. When you have a QB that is a legit threat to run, it changes the defensive strategy. D's right now can pin their ears back and be aggressive. they were clearly less so when Garretson played. Or if they are overaggressive they overrun the play.
It's an apples and oranges comparison, and again, shows the absolute ineptitude of the coaching staff to switch to an offensive system that plays to the deficiencies of the returning O-linemen. Had they just stayed the course I think OSU is averaging 200+/gm rushing easy. OSU had 4 drives in the 1st Half that resulted in punts yesterday, two of which started with Luton incompletions (if you look at the pbp from CSU game, you will see a similar theme in stalled drives). The offensive scheme OSU was running at the end of last year maybe doesn't come off the field.
