Where is Gundy saying "We will be back and we will win this thing!"? Lord what a wonderful season stopped just short of the ultimate goal. Interesting about C-Boy and Cary - I sense several transfers as players fight for spots; this team has an embarrassment of riches at all positions and especially the outfield. For Cary, I think it is all about fall ball (if he hasn't made some other decision by then). He is an outstanding defensive player, and if he can come back returning to Florida Gatorade player of the year form, I would love to see him stay (would love it anyway, but it is what it is). Freak injury for an outfielder to have and he just hasn't been able to bounce back from it. Haven't heard that he is playing summer ball anywhere, anyone have an update on that?

"It's a strong class," Casey says. "We have some guys who will compete for playing time right away." Ok, so we are losing 3 dudes who played a major role to the MLB, and maybe Donahue to a transfer or maybe further discipline/being dismissed and Casey is already predicting the freshman will push for playing time? Wow. I believe him, but wow! Stands to reason we will need 1 infielder, probably First Base and maybe a new starting outfielder? But that is even hard to say with Nobach returning.... My guess is Cary is probably looking at transferring for playing time but that is just a guess. Heck, with the guys we have returning, it's going to be a dog-fight for any guys who weren't top contributors last year just to make the club. Very few open roster spots, and very few question marks in the field or on the mound. The only true question will be if someone can step up to be the power-hitting threat we lost with KJ's ascension to pro-ball. Obviously, things can change in major ways, but looking ahead to the 2019 season, there might not be a lot of experienced players left since the 2018 team will be LOADED with upper-class returnees, leaving little room for fresh faces.

I am not worried about power - the one thing I kept noting over and over was not the # of home runs, but the power potential of this squad. Sure a cold, windy spring did not help things, but the last quarter of the season balls started to fly over the fence with increasing regularity. Larnach, Adley, Cadyn, Zak, Nick and several other guys have the pop in the bat. KJ was able to hit for both average and power, especially late in the season, but I would rather see us hit .290+ again with the same number of home runs than have the home runs double but hit .260.
Still, I predict more long balls next season.

Cary is looking at the Billy King route, trying to find a place for everyday at bats. assuming the injury doesn't hold him back and he can get back on his developmental path, hopefully he can regain the form that made him a pretty fair prospect.

Don't be surprised if Cary is back in a sunny clim... still family/friends in FL and lots of small college ball in that area. He/family (mostly) were very unhappy campers about his PT. He has a ways to go as a D1 elite player and MLB prospect. He truly "looks" the part, but he has huge holes in his swing, needs to gain strength, and is not the hardest of workers on or off the field. He may stick around if he can't find what/he the family think is a better option, but OSU will be more than fine without Elliot.
Never been a Donahue fan. Seems to be a "black sheep" in what PC looks for in a player in attitude and work ethic. Again, no great loss IMHO.
On paper the pitching could be a strong point. However, I'm not even 50/50 that Drew or Luke return, and even if Luke does decide to he'll be hard pressed to come close to matching the numbers of this year. IMHO it truly is in his best interest on many levels to get out of dodge and "start over". The story here will not go away and if he drops off the story will continually be brought up. Selfishly I'd love to see him return and stuff it up our opponents collective arses, but even without the drama the chance a pitcher repeats such a great season are slim to none.
Without Drew and Luke we would be about 3rd/4th in the Pac12 in my early estimation. The offense can't expected to get much better as far as average and clutch hitting. We also had many games where baseball "magic" played a key role. So we'd have Bryce, Eisert, and Mulholland with significant innings vs Pac12 competition. Everyone else is truly an unknown and I believe the Pac12 will be stronger in 2018. However, no one expected these numbers this year, so maybe a couple guys come thru who are truly unknowns at this time!?

The article says "Friday, July 15." Friday is the 14th in 2017. The deadline is 5:00 p.m. tomorrow, the 7th. The article says that Jake Thompson is gone, but I have heard that the Red Sox are having troubles signing him, as well. Thompson is the only round 1-10 draft pick that Boston has left to sign. Thompson's slot value is $397,800. However, because he is the last to sign, he is actually holding up at least another in $23,155 in bonus money. I am not sure that it results in Thompson returning, but it sounds like he has the Red Sox over a barrel.

A lot of talent in the outfield, so PT time is all about who is hitting!

Yeah, the Sox have $137,600 remaining in their pool, and can go up to $420,955 if they pay 75% tax on the difference. (every 4 dollars they pay Jake above $136,700 they pay another 3 dollars of "tax" to the league.) Jake doesn't have the same kind of leverage that Drew did/does. He's already a RS Junior, so returning for another year drops his possible signing bonus by a lot. If the Sox are trying to low-ball him down at the $137K level, I could see him considering returning, but if they're offering close to slot, that's far more money than he'll be offered next year.

I'd pick Stanford and UCLA over us if Drew AND Luke do not return. UCLA had an outstanding frosh class and has a stud returning to the hill. But, really picking 8 for the CWS and picking a 56-6 team is pretty easy thing to do. How do you go wrong? If OSU doesn't make it they look like the "failure" not the picker. It is baseball... who knows what will play out. If this season is not a perfect example of anything can happen then no season is!!! IF both do return and can have 25+ W's between them then I can see OSU, Stanford, UCLA fighting it out until the final weekend... and all three hosting and getting to a SUPER with the chance for (3) Pac12 teams to be CWS bound. We'll see... a long ways off with a lot of player issues to play out.

Who is UCLA's stud? Bird or Olson? Meh. Not that impressive... Stanford does probably have Beck coming back, which is impressive.
