So there is a Longshot possibility that the starters for Oregon State next season would be Luke, Jake, and Drew. Wouldn't get very good odds on betting on a return trip to Omaha. Of course, the early predictions already point towards bad odds for that bet even without the trio.

The issue with Wetzler was not that he had been negotiating with the Phillies. You are allowed to do that. The issue (and subsequent suspension) was that he was deemed to have consulted with an agent. As long as Rasmussen does not have an agent (and I know he and his parents are smart enough to understand that), then he has broken no rules.

Browsing thru the many twitter posts on this subject, I noticed that Keith Law states that Drew WOULD NOT be eligible for free agency. That aside, the prospect of his clubhouse leadership, in general, and in relation to a fairly young pitching staff in 2018, is.....(well)...off the charts! I believe Keith Law is right, Drew has eligibility left so he would not be able to sign as a free agent Both Luke and Drew have eligibility left, so there's no difference there. Both are draft eligible, so I believe they can sign as a free agent until they re-enroll in school. That's the way I was reading Luke's options. I see no reason why Drew's options would be different. That said, it's a moot point, since it's not likely anyone has as much $$ available to sign Drew as a free agent as the Rays do as a draft pick.

Theoretically, he could quit school and be ineligible. Jarmon had eligibility left but signed a free agent deal. It is also my understanding that Heimlich can sign a free agent deal, even though he has eligibility left.

Even one out of three would be great, considering the freshman class of pitchers we just witnessed, along with Yeskie's coaching magic and the always present incoming Freshman sensation. Beavs are already SO very rich in the field for 2018....add a quality pitching staff and I (almost) feel sorry for the rest of the PAC 11.

But Heimlich is eligible for free agency, right? Correct, because he went undrafted. He is still subject to the bonus pool for any signing bonus over $125,000 though.

Apparently Raz also thinks he should have gotten a start in Omaha, and is taking steps to rectify the situation...
In all seriousness, while this is indeed a big risk for Drew, it could also result in a big payoff. While getting picked 31st for $2+ million sounds like a no-brainer, he could double or triple that if he moves up to the top 10 with a monster year. His unique position as a redshirt sophomore means he can be aggressive in his negotiations, and when I heard in the thread below that he hadn't signed yet, I wondered if this might be a possibility.
I'm trying very hard to not get giddy. Not until Friday comes and goes. But my gawd, the implications are staggering for the 2018 Beavers.
GO BEAVS!

IIRC Ben was "unofficially" asking an agent for valuation advice as to the contract. And many other NCAA players did/do as well. Phillies brought it public when they could not agree on terms

A slight factor may be the taste of the CWS and playing with your teammates for pure fun. You only get do this once in your life. Then again, Money Talks and BS Walks. We shall see.

What a ridiculous embarrassment of riches we could potentially be fielding.

Exactly what is the uncertainty re: Donahue and Cary? Until/unless Cary puts together a full college season that lives up to his potential, it's hard to see any MLB organization interested in him. Donahue? He appears to top out as a utility college level player. Is his status next year impacted by his drug situation just b4 Omaha? Also the list of incoming candidates for the 2018 team missed mentioning Alex McGarry (1B) who played freshman season at a juco.

"It's a strong class," Casey says. "We have some guys who will compete for playing time right away."
Ok, so we are losing 3 dudes who played a major role to the MLB, and maybe Donahue to a transfer or maybe further discipline/being dismissed and Casey is already predicting the freshman will push for playing time? Wow. I believe him, but wow!
Stands to reason we will need 1 infielder, probably First Base and maybe a new starting outfielder? But that is even hard to say with Nobach returning....
My guess is Cary is probably looking at transferring for playing time but that is just a guess.
